I do not spend much on either. My own style can be accomplished inexpensively and I plan to mostly sew for my doll and have bought some of his items on sale. Still probably have spent more on the doll this year.

In total, I definitely have spent more of my own money on Feena than myself. But mostly cause I really don't need to replace clothes that often, and my parents still fund that for me (I really dont think of myself as fashionable, I prefer function over form). Feena on the other hand...I've bought her a silk Kimono, and in theory paid a pretty penny for her original outfit, but otherwise I've made her own. So do "I" spend more money on BJD clothes than myself? yes. Is Feena's, Kotori's and Kana's worth more than my clothes? probably not

If I didn't make Lillian's clothes, I am certain I would have spent more on her clothes than mine.

I think I'm definitely more likely to spend more on doll clothes than on my own. I like and agree with the reasons everyone else has mentioned. I'm super cheap and picky when it comes to my own stuff with the exception of Lolita outfits, but I'm sort of waiting to spend a lot on a Lolita wardrobe. But for regular every day clothes, yeah. I see a shirt for $30 and I'm like "hmm, I think I'll pass on that." But then I see a doll shirt for $30 and I'm like "I have to have it!!!" lol

I spend more money on making doll clothes for my own dolls than I do making my own! O_o I just realized that I'm more likely to buy more expensive fabrics for them and do more work for them, then I would spend on knocking together a shirt or pants for myself. My own sewing is piling up undone while I obsess over my doll's elaborate stuff.

You know you have dolls when this happens:

Blue jeans: 13$ on fabric on sale for ME. Sweated blood over the expense, did I really need them? Really?
Dolls: 50$ swiped from the grocery budget for fabrics and notions, no second thoughts except how I was going to be cooking a lot of rice based dishes for a week. >.<;;; WORTH IT! ~_^

Yes. Most surely. I just spent 60 bucks without a second thought for a OMGosh cute sailor dress MSD size.
I wouldn't spend 60 cents on myself lol, I usually make my own clothes.

Yeah I spend way more on my dolls than myself, mainly because there is 7 of them and 1 of me, so between them and my kids I have nothing for me, but that's ok with me it's my hobby and I enjoy it.

I recently spent $20 on a pair of pants for one of my dolls, and when I got them home, I was absolutely tickled that they had functional pockets! That was when I had a real epiphany...I usually don't spend more than $15 on a pair of pants for myself. Why on earth would I be so excited to buy $20 pants that have (OMG!) working pockets? I do spend a lot on really elaborate outfits, but usually sew anything less complicated. I am always reminding myself to take a step back from the clothes (or wigs or eyes or shoes) and ask whether or not the cost is worth the product. Sometimes I decide to do whatever it is on my own, and then spend way more money and time on getting the materials or know-how than I would have if I had just purchased the thing in question. It's not a cheap hobby, and while I do appreciate the DIY aspect sometimes, it's hard to judge what is worth doing yourself and what is worth buying. Especially when your alternative is giving up a pair of pants that you yourself might need.

I generally talk myself out of buying things for myself, but have much easier time buying and making things for other people. Luckily for my doll, she counts as "other people" in my mind

Hell no! My clothes aren't that expensive, but I think some of the prices for doll clothing is just offensive. I was looking on sadol the other day, and saw a suit I really liked for my boy...but $120 for 5 pieces of clothing?! Cock and bull. I'm good at sewing, and fabric is cheap 8D

Doll's clothing are definitely expensive, but you have to keep in mind that it's more work to sew dolls' clothing than normal size clothing! And when I keep in mind all the little details you just have to buy it
It's all about priorities. Dolls are for me at the moment what luxury chocolate is for other people! Or going to the disco, or visiting a spa! Everybody has different wishes!

Sadly, yes. I've recently taken on sewing to reduce costs, but I'm still a novice. I still buy pieces that require more precision like a suit jacket or an elaborate dress, but they tend to be the most expensive...

That being said, I do love buying nice clothing for myself. But I can find a really cute pair of shoes for myself for under $40, whereas the same sort of shoes would cost over $40 for a doll.

I always manage to score really huge discounts/deals on expensive clothing and never pay more than $15 on ANYTHING for myself (while still looking good). Now my first bjd is about to arrive and I've already spent LITERALLY over 20x that on just clothes plus plan on sewing him custom stuff myself. So... YES.

I don't know why my mind works like that I guess it's not uncommon though. Then again I'm paying for really unique designs and such so the price doesn't really bother me for his clothes (he is over 70cm as well).

Yes and no.

I am really picky about clothing for my little ones, usually preferring to make my own as opposed to buying any, but I do allow myself to trade for as much clothing as I want from doll meets, since I can see right then and there if it will fit. With my dream dolls on the way, I have been allowing myself to splurge on them a little, but i haven't found anything i find good enough for my Breccia.

As for clothing for myself, I only buy what I like, is comphy and what fits well. I'm really picky, but i'm not some super omega fashionista or anything.

A beautiful marriage of the 2 came from this shop called RRabit, Its a store that sells both bjd and human stuff. I got a really adorable blouse for me, and the absolute perfect wig for my Breccia, Niloufar. I just wish thier shoes were th right sizes for my girls.

heh, my answer would probably be yes, because i shop for my own things almost entirely at thrift stores. but so far, i've made all my dolls' things. it was a rule i set: buy nothing for the doll but eyes, make it all myself! luckily for me, my girls' are both faeries and they're not too concerned with clothes...it's tattoos Nim keeps demanding from me, actually...

I spend about 100 EU (approx. 125USD) on doll clothes a year, including shoes.
I also enjoy sewing for my boy, which is tehcnically cheaper,
although I need to replace my old shirt with a new one then,
so I guess that it adds up.
It really depends on how you look at it, but I don't think that
I tend to spend more money on my boy's attire than my own.
I don't buy myself many clothes, but they do end up being much more expensive.

I can always raid the scrap bin at the fabric store and find something cool to dress my doll in. Th same can be said about clothes for me. I love shopping at thrift shops and taking "trash to turn to treasure" with minor sewing skills.

But when it comes to shoes..my knees buckle.

I just can't resist how utterly CUTE they all are! My boyfriend says my dolls have more shoes than I do (and that's saying something), but it really doesn't bug me as long as I'm happyin my hobby!

I don't buy clothes all that often, I have a large enough wardrobe though usually a new sweater and a couple of new shirts in the fall perhaps. Jeans as they wear out. But for my doll? Ugh...I have a spreadsheet of all the items that are out there that I want for her. And yes, they are expensive.

Fortunately though doll shoes are cheap comparatively. Right now I'm looking at a new pair of John Fleuvog shoes for $300 and dolly shoes don't add up like that. Will I buy those shoes or spend that money at Dollheart? Stay tuned.....
