My mother said it was a good business opportunity but she was also scandalised by the fact that my male doll had a penis. LOL!

At first, my mom found my hobby kinda cute. She was very surprised to know how big they were but shocked to know how much they cost. When I asked her to get me one, she was skeptic about it and decided to let me have one as a reward for my hardwork in school. The only condition was I had to stay in a strict budget. The rest of the family know nothing!!!
All of my friends were squealing over their pictures and asked if I was getting one and if I could send them pictures. One of my friends called it gross to still be playing with dolls...

My wife thinks I am weird anyway, so as a male collecting dolls she kind of ignores it.She has no idea how much they cost and she surely doesn't no that most of my dolls are boy dolls dressed and look like girl dolls.I love my dolls so its worth the humiliation if she finds out.

My boyfriend thinks it's a bit creepy. He says that many of them look real, but with lifeless expressions. O.o
My family doesn't know about my hobby because I haven't seen them in a while (maybe the next time they come visit, they'll see my collection of dolls). Though, I imagine they wouldn't really care. I've been collecting the special event Barbies since I was little, the only thing between those and bjds is that bjds are 5000x customizable (and often more towards my taste in aesthetics).

My mother is totally cool with it (actually, she's the one that got me into this hobby, and the first one out of the two of us who got a BJD, so cool may not be the best word). My dad, well.....what he doesn't know (*cough*30 BJDs in less than 2 years*cough*) won't hurt me. The rest of my family wants to do an intervention on me as "the need to collect such things show I have an unnatural urge to be a mother and/or it's really creepy that in my 20's I still "play with dolls". (This is why people disown their families.) Though my Grandmother saying my Unidoll Jace was "such a mature looking woman with such a pronounced bosom", was what truly took the cake. As for my friends, they're all dollfie owners themselves, so it's all good there.

I thought one of my friends, Austin, was going to call us weird and just avoid the subject but when we started showing him pictures of dollfies for our characters he couldn't help but think they kicked ass, which took me and John by surprise.

My dolls are my little secret. The family doesn't care much about them, though I never told them how much the dolls costed (I spent my own money for them, anyway). I would like to show some pics to my friends, but not sure how would they react. They know I'm strange, and perhaps wouldn's say a bad word, but who knows, so I don't want to risk

My parents know about all my dolls and they let it be. They don't like me spending so much money on dolls, the thing that is just "useless stuff" in their eyes. Everytime when I order a doll, I get the whole "another doll? You have already so many and they are so expensive!" story. But they don't forbit it, because it is my own money.
For other family members / relatives.. I don't see them much, and at my mothers birthday they (my aunts) asked me to show them when I talked about it. They really loved the dolls. Not that they would get into bjds themselves, but they really like the creativity that I put into my dolls. (2 of my aunts sew clothes themselves too, so they were also very interested in the clothes I sew for my dolls).
And my other friends also like my dolls and the things I create with them. I always tell my best friend about my doll plans and show him the pictures of my dolls.
And he always tells about the plans on his hobby: cars (and customizing them). And he also shows pictures. So we're even. :P

My parents always complain when I get one. Like "is that another doll? Shouldn't you be spending your money on something that's not ridiculous? you're not a little kid" Id just like to know who would be dumb enough to give a BJD to a small child...o.o

My other half calls it my hobby but doesn't understand how I really feel about them. My best friend for other 30 years thinks they are cool but doesn't really care about them. My other friends think I am nuts and tease me about playing with dolls at my age. I don't care. I love my dolls and can't wait for the next one to come home. LOL

For my family and friends, the whole money issue aside, they don't mind them at all. My family (my immediate family, aka mom excluded) seems to always like how well dressed my guys are ahaha. My brother used to hate them, but grew to like them, plays with 'em sometimes. We reached a common ground because I liked the customization and he does the whole Warhammer thing. We're cool.
At first my friends found them creepy but now they're part of the group. They treat them respectfully and carefully. |D And-- pose them with beer bottles--

Some of my family are avid doll collectors of various types, themselves, so that makes it easy. The others just think I am nuts, but that is no surprise. I think they thought that before they knew about the dolls!

My best friend in college got me into ABJD. So it's not surprising that she was fine with it. We used to play with our dolls and take photos every two weeks or more. It was a lot of fun. And a good way to keep ourselves amused between paychecks.
My father says that they look aliens. But doesn't nag or berate me.
My mother likes them for the most part. She thinks most of my dolls are really cute and has no problem with them displayed about my room.
However the price is a big issue for her. But I keep my collection small and whenever I want a new doll I go though my dolls and see if there anyone who I don't play with or don't care for anymore and sell or trade them. If I don't have anyone I am willing to part with then I don't get a new doll. It a little easier to say "I have paid $130 and the trade my Lati-doll body" then to say "I paid $500 for this doll."

I really had no plans on telling my family about BJD's in fear of someone going "you spent HOW much on a doll?!?!" But in the end I did tell my mom and she just said that it was my money and to do what I wanted "just don't tell your dad!". The whole situation was a bit comical really but at least she didn't freak out. My friends have been really supportive though and I think I have one of them hooked as well lol. Yea for a possible new member to the BJD community! I just bought my first doll, an Elfdoll Red, who should be here next week. We'll see what they say once they meet him

My parents thought it was interesting but expensive hobby but they love my dolls and think they are beautiful. My siblings are kind of scared of them they are convinced they are possessed which is amusing

My boyfriend didn't get why I wanted a doll... Or why I wanted and still want multiple dolls. XD
He thinks they aren't worth what they cost, or that I should have multiple dolls... But then I called him on buying video games, which he does quite frequently, so now he doesn't make as big of a stink about it. XD
