I come from a mixed background so most of the doll names I come up with blend to cultures together or I come up with some off the wall name while I'm at work. I haven't come up with a Japanese name yet for a doll, but mostly because none of them are Japanese and I don't want to use a common Japanese name if i did make them Japanese.

Due to my fangirlism for japanese culture in general (i.e. anime, fashion etc), i tend to name my dolls with japanese names. Although i guess it highly depends on how i bond with them when I see them in person.
Often though i have a vision of the kind of doll and character i want in my head and the name just comes with that.

my "on the way" doll has been called "shorty" for lack of being able to choose his name. i didnt know where to start, so i just started surfing through baby names and writing down what i liked.
i really want to make him fairy wings (all sorts, actually) because im really into costuming and such, and to me, he looks fae-like. so i finally found a name fitting of him.
his name is faelyn, which means beautiful fairy. :]

I like the japanese names, but my dolls have english names. Lolly is from lollypop, Morigan is from a tale about a witch. My favorite japanese name is Mineko.

I named my BJDs after my OCs. They all start with an "R". Since then any new coming BJDs into my family, OCs or not, are named with an "R". lol

I have picked their names by what I felt suited their appearance. My AE Meijia was named Delilah (hebrew-languishing, lovelorn, seductive). She reminds me sometimes of a beautiful dark haired temptress. My BBB An [light tan] is named Taryk (arabic-deliverer of messages or night caller XD). He has a beautiful olive complexion and such big brown eyes!

I think my doll has a Greek look so I started by looking for Greek names. I expanded to other nationalities from the region too and came up with a list of a dozen names. I have it down to 6 now, but can't seem to narrow the list down any further. >.< I think I'll have to wait until she arrives and see what fits her best from this list:
Althea
Calista
Demara
Isolde
Marlee
Isabeau

I love to browse though "name books" and then let the name pop out for the doll. So far I have a huge mixutre of names but they all mean something special. I also named two of my dolls to honor the women who were mother to me and grandmothers to me. I love naming my dolls!

All of my girls names are made up, or words i found in a thesaurus that means something more simple... Or use words i make up...
For example: Austere means "Solemn" (Austere is my goddess of mental Anguish),
Sterna means "star" is German. Zenithria is a word i made up from the Word Zenith, which mean "The top".

There are some Japanese names I like; I knew a girl named Kaori and thought that was a really pretty name. I wouldn't be opposed to using a Japanese name, even though they are so commonly used--if it suits the doll, why not? However, to this day, none of my dolls have Asian names.
One of my dolls has my favourite German name, Adelheid, and the other two, Lily and Jane, are rather common English names. Jane is named after a character, but is not supposed to actually be that literary figure.

It really just depends on the character that I choose for a doll. Other than my character Kaochi, I don't plan on naming any more of my dolls/characters something Japanese. It's really just random. A lot of my dolls have names inspired by favorite songs/musicians or something off the wall like a crayon color or a type of food, heh.

Both of my boys have japanese names, Yuu and Naoki, chosen because of the meaning behind them, but my next boy (most likely) won't have

I named my little floating head Saoirse after watching an interview of the actress Saoirse Ronan. The name just jumped out at me. It's an Irish/Gaelic name that means Freedom (pronounced Seer-sha). I think it's very fitting for her since she's free from a body, lol.
As for my H. Ducan that's on the way, I think I'll just keep waiting and maybe a name will pop out at me for him too.
So really I don't have a set preference for names of any specific origin, though my boyfriend (who has a bachelors in Japanese studies) would definitely like to push me in a certain direction, lol.
