In my house hold, not so much "versus" as "complete and utter boredom." Admitted, my dolls stay in their bags most of the time (paranoid about yellowing much?), but even if they're out or in an active photoshoot, the cats ignore them completely.

My family members, when they come around, ad pretty grabby and disrespectful, so i just keep eveyrthing important well out of their way - dolls, personal possessions, or wahtever it may be.

I have four cats, and aside from one who likes to flop on them (he thinks they're people XD), they really don't bother the dolls at all. Granted, when I'm not around I put them up in a glass cabinet so none of them have a chance to really get to them anyway, but so far so good.

My cat isn't interested in thedolls themselves so much as the wigs DX

He managed to run off with SIX's wig at one point and hid it somewhere in the house. I e-mailed JPOPDolls to see if they had any others but it was sold out and they weren't getting any more DX So for months I bought random wigs trying to find a new default one for him >[ Then one day the wig was just lying there on the living room carpet D8

Though now we have a puppy so whenever I have a little photoshoot I have to keep an eye on her >_<

I've had no problem from my dog in regards to my dolls. She occasionally goes to have a sniff of the "Are you for eating?" variety, but otherwise she really doesn't care. She will move very carefully on the sofa if there's a doll on the other end, in fact.

As far as family members, I have no help there. I trained my kid from the time he was tiny that he must be very careful around the dolls, but that's another whole world from "bratty brother keep out!" And my brother was an awesome kid, so I don't know what other people do to manage siblings. o_o

My first doll (luckily, a not-too-expensive Orient Doll vampire Ui) was chewed into kibble-sized bits by my fresh from the Humane Society dog. I didn't even know that she could reach that shelf until I identified the crumbs on my floor as resin

I now have a replacement Ui, but the dog went mysteriously missing when I left her in my parents' care for a weekend. Which just reinforced the lesson that some things in life are replaceable, and some aren't.

I had ferrets years ago, and I suspect that they could wreak the most havoc by stealing doll accessories and hoarding them in strange places. They may also chew doll clothes and wigs, as mine liked anything soft and fuzzy (they were constantly finding and dragging my MLPs around by their manes and tails). However, I can't say for sure how they would be with dolls, as I only started collecting about a year after the furkids had all passed on from a series of increasingly exotic illnesses.

My cats sometimes sleep on top of my dolls, if I leave them laying out, but aside from some hair, they never leave any damage.

I'm looking forward to doing some photoshoots with my dolls and my ball python, though. As soon as she settles in a bit more. No hair. No chewing habit. It should be a perfect match, as long as I keep the set warm.

I've got three cats and they're absolutely uninterested in the dolls. If anything, they seem to be a little bit scared of Sevvie. He's mostly sitting in the sofa and if I place him in the corner where the cats usually sleep, they'll abandon that sofa completely. They're not even interested in the wigs (oddly enough, one of my kid's dolls is wearing a fur wig but even that holds no interest to the cats)

So here, they coexists nicely

I have 5 wonderful cats ^_^ as for getting to my dolls...all the time...but not in the way most would think...my cats love grooming my dolls for some reason ^^; they're very cute about it so I let them get away with it sometimes...but no all the time...all my limited dolls stay on shelves away from my kids...but any of my older dolls that i put in the living room area or near my computer desk area...the Cats are rubbing all over them and grooming them ^^; (mainly poor Taikoubo, my Captain Chris and Pocky and Micheal...I don't seem to have problems with the others...maybe they just like those 4 ^^; ) as for Ferrets...not too sure...other than the fact that I really want a Ferret ^_^

Oh, we have a ferret, too Well, he's my Mother's actually.

When the boys lived out in my room, Pepper wasn't allowed in, only after I carefully moved them onto my desk. After a while my dolls took up residence in my wardrobe so now the little bugger can explore more freely around here, though I have to look out when the doors of the wardrobe are open (I like to see my boys^^) because he has learned to skillfully raid my desk/wardrobe and everything in that height

Though when he was allowed to meet Ezra, nothing more took place than a bit of careful (and thorough) sniffling....and they were separated before he could go for Ez's face/try to nibble/scratch

In a few years, when he is older and calmer I may try to pose them together for some pics, but until then ferrets and dolls are kept separately

I keep my dolls in a locked trunk because I have a big puppy who is teething. He's very sweet, but I don't want him to chew up any dolls.

My cat (when I was still living with her -wah!) likes the dolls. Most cats, it seems have the desire to check them out. I think they're making sure they're not edible. Which mostly leads to some hilarious photos of cats sniffing dolls, curled up next to dolls, and stealing wigs.

Neither of the cats I had whilst owning BJDS have ever done anything destructive to the dolls. Mind you, when I'm not playing with them the dolls lived in their boxes on a shelf in a closet that was mostly inaccessible to the furball.

I did stop a couple attempts at wig theft, however. Midori (current cat) ran off with a cheap blue acrylic clown wig for 2 days. Carried it off like it was a mouse she'd caught or something. Later found it on the floor somewhere in the house. The wig cost me like 2 bucks, so I was more amused than angry. I did stop an attempt on Llyn's fur wig once, which would have been more catastrophic since he doesn't have any other hair!

Fur and mohair wigs seem to be a big temptation, and Llyn's smaller size seems to be less of a deterent to a cat attack. Compared to all my other dolls she took quite an interest in him. I took these pics of doll molestation, about a year ago, when I was living in VT with Midori. They've been posted around.

I currently have a dog, a lizard and a bunnie. The bunnie, she's shy, so she pretty much stays in her cage. The dog, she's completely uninterested in dolls (they are not balls or food). The lizard is a rescue and we've had him almost 2 years. He was in a house fire and was extremely upset when we first adopted him.
I've had ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, geckos & chinese water dragons, snakes, fish, bigger dogs and a cat. I think, fortunately for me, that I found my resin habit after my ferret friends had pass along. I don't think they make anywhere in the world that a ferret can't figure out how to get to.
I do have 3 kids, as well (11-14) and the youngest (boy) is always very careful around Mom's babies. The older two (both girls) have fallen in with the doll hobby and now have dolls of their own. I also take my dolls all over the place. Besides meet-ups, I have taken them to work many times, also shopping in various places and on vacation. Even my very boisterous neice quieted down while getting to hold one of my babies.
When I was growing up, though, my sister (10 yrs. younger) was the "baby". My parents were not very good with boundary setting (and this was before people called it that specifically). I finally had to set my own boundaries with a hook&eye placed above her reach.
If getting parents to reinforce boundaries is an issue, and since you are planning to move out, it may be simplest to wait to purchase your doll until you have settled into your new home. It's hard to wait, but much easier than having your heart broken if someone gets broken.

I'm currently petless and want to stay that way. I have to admit I miss by two cats that we lost to old age. They would have been very thrilled to play with the dolls, especially if the hair moved when they were looking. They were attracted to movement. Wonder if they would have considered them a substitute for people when we were gone.

one of my cats, Cello, loves my dolls. she treats them like miniature human beings: by rubbing up against/nibbling on the tops of their heads, and sleeping in their laps (thereby enveloping the entire doll). if i discourage her in that, she'll sleep as close to them as possible.

my other four cats run will run roughshod over them if i don't shoo them away.

EDIT: i found a pic of Cello encroaching on Kei and Akemi's personal space. they're both minis; you can tell by looking at them just how huge Cello is

I have two cats and neither of them bother my dolls at all. One of them gave me problems when she was a kitten but, that's it really. She was attracted to the wigs. I just had to get into the habit of putting her away if I was taking pictures of my dolls indoors.

And as far as family goes, my brother was curious about them but, mostly the rest of my family doesn't even bother me about my dolls anymore. No one in my house, pets or family, really goes after my dolls at all thankfully.

My cat has total disregard for my dolls. If they happen to be where he would like to claim as a place to sleep he carefully plops himself across whomever happens to be unlucky enough to be under him.

It isn't like he specifically goes after them. . . or maybe he does. . .Sometimes, I think he's evil enough to do just that. . .

ha i have live with 3 cats and i have a ferret.... my cat spends most of his time in my room and i have 3 of my boys on my bed so the most my cat does is try to get the dolls to pet him.... but other then that he's scared of them... my ferret on the other hand thinks my boys are mini people so he does his little dooking around (for those non-ferret peoples that's they're little happy weasel war dance where they bounce around) anywho yeah he'll bounce around in front of them and make his little laughing sound trying to get them to play but he's never once bothered with them much... since like anychild with major adhd... he's easily distracted so it's more like to him it's a routine ... dook around them nip a shoe smell a hand then run off to play with his crinkle ball...

Most of all, my cats seem to be slightly scared of the dolls. My dolls sit in the sofa when I'm not photographing them and the cats always lie in the opposite corner, as far from the dolls as they can get - this is a notable exception, really:

My cat likes to use my DoT Homme Ducan as a scratching post for hard to reach places behind her ears and my mice have yet to meet him, though I think they'll be to scared to do anything to him, except for MisaMisa she likes to explore everything and sleep on people.
