More auctions pirating Volks - Why helo thar, Isao...

Has anyone else so far spotted this auction? I couldn't see it in a search of the forums, or a quick skim...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Lauras-DreamD...QQcmdZViewItem

I like the idea of the "Certificate of Authenticity". 'We certify that this doll has been authentically nicked from another company! '

Original DoA thread on the dolls: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=163975

Well the good thing is that from their recently completed auctions, it appears that the only actual doll parts they have been able to sell were a couple of heads. It doesn't appear that any of the full dolls have sold, which I am happy to see.

Wow even the body has been re-sculpted from a Volks SD13 boy. Jeez. I though Sunrise Inc. whatever just made crayons or something. I don't know, the whole thing just seems so incredibly fishy. >_>

Oh, enough with the copying accusations!

This is not an Isao from Volks copy. It's a completely original Schmisao from Bolks. HUGE difference.

(In case anyone missed it, that was a tongue-in-cheek comment. The copying is more blatant than Ashlee Simpson's nose job.)

These poor Isao copies all look so daft. Like clones gone horribly wrong.

Gaawd, these people make me sick. XP Can these be reported to ebay? i'm not sure of their policies on bootlegs, but from what I remember they're not allowed. (Though I expect they're probably still rampant on Ebay regardless.) >>

I've looked at those pictures unto eye-blurring, for the past months this has been going on, and I still don't think that Isao is identical-looking enough. We have torches & pitchforks going on on both forums. This guy is totally mixed-- his chin is all wrong, his jaw is 25% narower, his ears are all wrong, but the eyes are a maybe-ripoff on the bottom lid, and the mouth is totally a ripoff.

That's not to say he couldn't be a heavily modded recast, natch. It's just not blatant enough for the Angry Villagers to do the work. Volks got notified of what's going on, so I'd leave it to them to decide.

Now, the BODIES, on the other hand... *sigh* Ripofforama. Jesus, people, at least change the shape of his hands, legs, cock, SOMEthing... at least kick a LITTLE dirt over your tracks!

And the faux-Domuya-girl head, too. Guilty.

Just not that boy head 100%. Inconclusive.

Don't think eBay cares, or can do anything. I think only the copyright-holder can do anything.
Check out the original DOA thread-- early pages-- for people's lowdown on what happened when they contacted both eBay and Volks about this matter.

The dollmaker/seller [?], btw, is on page 4-- Littlewhitecrane-- and of course it's a total denial.

Technically I don't think Ebay really cares as long as they are making money from the sales.

I really don't think there is anything they can do, that is up to Volks. It seems to me this has already been stated on DoA and they are banned dolls there now.

Dammit, the only option they have in the Report Listing options falls under "Potential Trademark infringement" - which doesn't really fit what's going on here as they're not claiming to be Volks. Or "copies of unrelased movies, tv shows, music, etc etc" but it doesn't quite fit there either. *shakes fist at Ebay*

I think that "potential trademark infringement" would work. I don't understand why an old shirt of my housemate's got pulled off ebay but they can't shut these people down. (Let's see one fifteen year old knock-off t-shirt with misspelled designer's name -$5, Currently mass produced bootleg dolls -???$$$, which is really going to cause more damage?)

Guh I hate it when people think they can get away with something like this >_< At least word is out about them so hopefully, until legal action can be taken, no one else will buy any of them >~<!

Yeah, but I feel sorry for people who might find them by browsing ebay --- I've noticed an increasing number of people people buy their first doll before they introduce themselves to the community and some one like that might miss the heads up.

Wouldn't Volks have the molds themselves registered/trademarked? If so, I would think trademark infringement would work..

Weird, I don't think the auction's gone down - I can still see it.

And yeah, JennyNemesis, you're right, he does look a little different. It's close enough that it really drives me completely insane, though... argh!

Does anyone know whether Volks ahve looked into it further? Someone in the DoA thread said they'd heard back from Volks, who said they were looking into it - I wonder if they ran into difficulties prosecuting/proving anything across countries?

Ah, I see the auction now...

You know, he does look somehow related to Isao. If they ripped off the body design from Volks, why does this one look so wrong with the head? It looks like a badly-matched Frankendoll.

*sigh~ these dolls make me really sad; I hate to admit it but I can see enough of a difference in both the head and body sculpts that I'm not sure Volks can actually claim it's a bootleg.

Why is it always Isao? Is he covered in magical pixie dust or something?
