Gone before it existed...the dolls that got away...
I got into the hobby nearly a year ago now and I have to say: There are an awful lot of dolls out there that I want and will NEVER own. Save for plain luck.
So the big question is: Have you ever chanced a look at a doll sites limited section; then stumbled upon an AMAZING doll that you want/covet/NEED but can no longer get?
Sometimes it's like they leave those pictures up there just to taunt you.
This young lady here is now nowhere to be found:

Who eluded you?

What I can say regarding the dolls who got away: Don't loose hope. Sometimes they do turn up again - on marketplaces of doll forums, on Ebay, or even re-released by the company in a slightly different version. It is of course a bit less likely with artist dolls, like Püns - but even here, not impossible.

Thankfully, this hasn't happened to me yet. I fell in love with Dollzone's 70cm boy Ying, but, thankfully, Junky Spot had one last one in stock that I was able to buy... But if he had sold out before I got the money, I would have been devastated. ):
If I ever see another Ying head for sale anywhere, I might get it, just as back up in case something bad were to ever happen to mine.

Yeah.... I wanted that Fullset Gentle Freezia from Iplehouse, I was just learning about bjd's when she was available, so I was floored by how much money she was. When I finally considered buying her, she was sold out ;__; I could buy her in basic, but I wanted everything in that listing, the clothes and shoes, the wig, the make up, the accessories...... Though I've found similar outfits on taobao, I could make the jewelry and finding a wig wouldn't be hard.....perhaps one day.
And the Ringdoll Kirin.....He'll be gone soon. Le sigh.

Oh yes, this happened to me with Volks SD13 Girl Madoka. Someone brought her to a Gene Marshall doll convention, and I was forever smitten! Imagine my heartbreak when my research revealed that she was a very small edition, available only in Japan, and sold out instantly upon her release. Keep in mind that this was before I knew of any organized Japanese shopping service, and there were no dedicated BJD forums. Thus I became a "Madoka stalker"....tirelessly searching eBay in vain, and even writing to Volks again and again. Eventually, they re-released her as Shizu for the opening of their LA store. Unfortunately, the LA opening was held the same weekend of another Gene Con that I was already committed to attending. So I feared I'd once again missed my chance. But someone on Den of Angels answered my Want To Buy thread and I ended up buying a Shizu (Madoka) for less than it would've ended up costing me to have made the LA trip. Besides, just as at Dolpa in Japan not everyone that waited in line even got the opportunity to buy Shizu, so I considered myself lucky to get her...my "Passion"! So don't give up, even One-Off's sometimes turn up for sale! A good friend of my got his One-Off dream girl about a year ago on the secondary market...always keep your hope alive!

Yes, with Dive Seimei-he was a very limited run of artist heads sold on Y!J before I had even heard of BJD. However, I got very lucky, after about 2 years of keeping an eye out, searching and asking everyone I knew to note me if they saw one, I found one! He's been here for the past three years and still one of my favorites <3 I also have a Scarface Cecile, who was released only on a cruise in Japan in the month I found out about BJD XD I got him through Y!J, after much saving. I also got a Switch Huisa, but with him I got very lucky-I went to Ldoll Festival in France and Switch' booth was right in front of mine, and they rereleased Huisa there! Of course I bought one XD
So, don't give up! You can get almost any doll, if you commit to it, plus a bit of luck and help from friends while searching In a way, the hunt is quite a fun part of getting the doll! My next 'quest' is a Volks Yugiri, I've been wanting one for quite some time although they are already sold out, but they pop up from time to time. Save your money, keep your eyes open and just go for it!

Sigh....Charles creature cabinet Alice cherry blossom and or Bubu odoroki.
Don't get me wrong, I could save up for them if I wanted, but theres no way i would own them. I won't let myself own a doll just because I wanted one in the past, Alice was my original dream doll though. The biggest reasons I won't own them are these:
1. They both always have the default faceup. And since they aren't made anymore, I can't bring myself to wipe them. I feel like I would be destroying something.
2. Poseability. I see those piggy little limbs being incredibly hard to pose, and when it comes to poseability, I am really picky and particular. I've sold dolls that i like because they have too limited range or couldn't stand.
Maybe one day I'll get one despite myself, but I don't see it as a smart purchase. I want one, but I fear I'll end up reselling.

I am head over heels for DODs Black and Elf Ducan, would die to own both as I find that sculpt absolutely gorgeous beyond anything. Sadly, that dream have very scarce chances of ever coming to fruition, it's years and years back that they were released and I'm not too optimistic about the entire matter that they can be found affordable anywhere. I'll just make do with their regular Ducan and am quite pleased like this too. Still, the dream wont ever really fade.

I would say not to give up too. I was a few days late to ask about one of my dream dolls - a one of a kind Customhouse Gene - and a few years later the lucky owner was wonderful enough to let him live with me. (I will always be grateful.) Another Customhouse One Off I loved showed up last year on eBay and I was able to get him for less than new.

Hi Geishacookie, I have both a School Girl Alice Cherry Blossom and a 1st edition pumpkin colored Bubu. Bubu's came with a very basic face-up because you could order the option of a face-up by Sweetly Twisted for an additional expense. Later, when Charles was having personal problems, and his business suffered, some Bubu's were ultimately sent out to fill long outstanding orders without any face-ups at all. I can tell you for a fact that the eyes used in Bubu's were inexpensive plastic plushie eyes and don't properly fit in the eyesockets. So you might consider posting a WTB thread for one of those. I've also seen ACB's with wiped face-ups turn up now and again on the secondary market. As for posing, neither ACB nor BO are as flexible as say a Pukipuki, but they sure are some of the cutest anthro style BJDs ever! If they truly are your dream dolls, I'd say you should go for them! Life's too short not to enjoy yourself and make as many dreams as you possibly can come true!

For me, there are a few. IH's Luna catgirl (the exact name escapes me), Soom's Chrom - Bane of Wood are two that I can think of off the top of my head.
Maybe someday....

I'm seconding the "never give up" advice. I've got a fascinating collection of dolls that were released prior to me getting into the doll hobby, including my grail doll, DollZone's LE 30 tan elf Quinn. <3 Took me two years to get him, but I got him.
Now I'm on the lookout for Soom's Bazael, who was released while I was going through a bit of a rough patch and so I missed him. I'll get him eventually, you just watch.

Yes. The story is very famaliar to me. I got under the spells of SOOM Rex, but now it is almost 2 years that SOOM stopped to release the boy. So people from diefferent forums told me not to lose hope and keep looking for the doll. Still hoping ))) And looking and wish you luck also.
