View Full Version : Section titles for photostories?

I don't know who to ask this of... but it was something I thought of when I was posting my last photostory.
The stuff I do is just plain silly. I can't bring myself to do anything serious... It got me thinking, some days all I want is to read something incredibly silly or satirical. Something to make me laugh. Other days I want drama or serious stuff.
Is there any way we could add some sort of moniker to the threads so that people knew what sort of genre the story fit in? Just like in a movie store with sections for comedy or family or action or drama~~ that way people can easily find the type of story they're interested in. Maybe some sort of icon that can be added to the title?

Oh, that is an interesting idea! I'm not sure we can actually have something to automatically add a pre-fix to the title, but we could make little genre post icons to use in threads- perhaps something like that would work? =3

I think a genre icon would work really well. :3 that way people wouldn't be reading blind as it were. :pirate

Yeah, this would be really useful. Like having the post icons that can be easily identified as different genres. Like horror can be like a drop of ooze or romance can be two hearts, etc.

Oh, I like that idea a lot! Little icons would be great.

And one like a plate of spaghetti for those of us who are all over the place in a story!

- Horror
- Action
- Drama
- Comedy
- Romance
Um... and help me out with the rest? :D
I think Juniper Snowpea should get her own category. :)
nahh i'm teasing of course - this is an awesome idea!!
Hitasura - maybe romance/NWS and romance/WS or something -- ?? your categories look great!

yeah short of adding ratings of R or PG or something I think you've got it covered. XD cuz 'family' and 'children' doesn't make a lot of sense here. X3

And if you don't use a genre icon, the assumption will be that there might be a bit of several things? As in drama and comedy? (I think if you have intense horror, you should use the horror icon anyway, even if someone also slips on a banana peel or breaks into song. That whole "suprise while at work" thing--)
Any consideration for something like a fantasy icon, if someone is doing a photostory they'd like to categorize as that or let people know about the fairy/spirite/sprite/demon, etc. elements?

The TV guide has similar icons for movies and the like. I think they are
Drama
SciFi/Fantasy
Action
Horror
Comedy
Romance
Thriller
Documentary
Or something like that, in any case.
On an ammusing note, I noticed that the TV started to give warnings for Horror/Supernatural Themes on shows (As though they were one and the same XD)

You know, I heard a story relating to this. I don't know if it is true or not, but here's what I heard.
The classical theatrical masks or faces, one smiling one crying, is from Shakespeare's time. They would raise a flag at the top of the Globe to designate if it was a comedy or a tragedy.
Fantasy is such a wide theme that if broken down, it would require many different icons.
I do like the idea of icons.

I posted my very first/last photostory yesterday, it was a comedy one, but I didn't know how to label/title it? It had lots of views....but...well.....it's gone now :cry. I think if it had a comedy icon it would have been a good idea.....;)

I think my ongoing type of photostories need one for Soap Opera.....

haha, I think Soap Opera could go under drama? XD
As for work-safe vs not-work safe, I'll just make a NWS icon, as more things than just um.. romance.. can be considered unsuitable for work! :oops
I can try to add ratings to the icons for each genre, but that's gonna end up making for a lot of icons! ^^;; Also, depending on how I do them (and because of how small they'll be) I may not be able to fit a rating in along with the genre. But I'll see what I can do!
Updated List:
Drama
SciFi
Fantasy
Action
Horror/Thriller
Comedy
Romance
NWS (Note: This one should trump all other genres if it fits this category)
(and yes, i'm separating sci-fi and fantasy, cause while they do have many things in common and sometimes overlap, it's always been a personal peeve that they're always classified together hahah~!)

Will people be obliged to use these if their shoot is otherwise innocuous and doesn't quite fit into anything (like I said, what if you've got a bit of drama going right into silliness afterwards)?

I think we'd make them entirely optional. :)

For the drama icon, how about a variation of those happy/sad theater mask thingies?
edit: ohoh! And a spaceship for sci-fi..and maybe a dragon head for fantasy?

When images are as tiny as icons, the art has to be really simple, or it's terminal squint time! A solid star could do for SF -- and a line-drawn star for fantasy? Or a sparking wand?
One big drop of blood for horror? And good old horizontal anime "speed lines" for action? (Unless you want to blow something up, in 20 pixels or less!)

Those icons are excellent! They definitely get the point across (And the text certainly helps) - Can't wait to see the rest!
