View Full Version : Sharing Outfits

If you have dolls that are the same size, do they share each other's outfits? Or do you prefer each doll to have their own clothes and not share with each other?
Once it didn't matter much to me if they had to share clothings, shoes and accessories, but that was back when I was still green and new in the hobby. The past year and a half I've begun to make each their own wardrobe consisting only of what they'd wear and to each their personal belongings. So unless it's really necessary they aren't sharing their clothing with no one. It also helps making them seem more human and less like a doll, even though we might not always regard them as such and find them just as alive and real as we ourselves are.

That makes a lot of sense. Right now I try not to share clothes with my dolls too much. Their styles are so far kinda different anyway. But shoes are another story. At least for now, a couple of them will have to deal with sharing shoes. :p

My dolls only have a few outfits, so it's nice to be able to mix and match between them for different looks. I just think of them as roommates, each having those special outfits/accessories that are their favorites to keep to themselves and some that they're willing to share.

I would prefer them to have clothes unique to their personality. However maybe one day I will have dolls that are siblings etc and it's part of their character to share clothes.

It depends I think... O_O for mine, if they for dollmeet or mini meet in casual theme... they share it sometimes I do mix and matching, but for building characteristic of my Original Character (OC photography and original story), they don't share it, they have each of their personal clothes ^^

My Minis share most of their clothing and shoes, but everyone combines the clothing pieces differently. All the clothes have a "primary owner" though, the doll they were bought or sewn for. Also, some of my dolls have clothing that "belongs" to them exlusively. Rachel, my Elfdoll Lovely Amy, has a couple of things for her alone, and not only because she is slimmer than my other Minis, but also because she "likes" clothing that others "wouldn't wear"; Melody, my Soom Mylo, has one dress others don't "touch", and a pair of shoes only for her too. One day, when I have made and bought more clothing (and it is a whole big box already >.< ...need...more...room...), they probably will stop sharing. But for now, I want to be flexible ^^

I take great pains to make sure that each doll has their own wardrobe- if only because I feel like their clothes are such an integral part of their characters, I just can't allow them to share.

It depends on their size, their character and stuff like that, but they do share. Especially my twin boys(who have different bodies)share because they roughly have the same style, and my two boyish boys share a lot of jeans, shirts, etc. But there are also dolls that can't share, like my only MSD(she gets a whole wardrobe for herself), my little fetish-girl(no other doll 'wants' to wear her stuff XDD)and my ghost boy. I also have a couple of items that fit most dolls, and new dolls get to wear that. When I have a new doll, I also just go the rounds through the wardrobes of the others, to see what looks good on them, even if it doesn't fit-just styles and colours. It helps a lot finding a dolls style without having to make lots of stuff(that they then don't wear because it doesn't suit them...)

Sometimes they do share, especially Hella and Lynn who have roughly the same style. Theres special combination of clothes that no other doll wears, but I mix and match them a lot, since our wardrobe is still not complete. When it will be, there still be some sharing but not so many since every character has his/her own special outfit. Allso first I need to get them a body to have their own outfit ^^; It's hard to keep from sharing when theres 3 heads for one body D:

Yeah, my boys do. :D
Theyre all roughly the same size (all but 1..) so they can share. :) Which is good, since i'm lazy to buy clothes..

The casual clothing they share. Most of my girls came with their own clothing, so they mostly keep that for themselves, unless it doesn't fit their personalities. Some clothing they share, and some clothing is specifically theirs.

Mine are like most cartoon characters, in that each one (except the tinies) generally has one outfit that is their in-character outfit. For the boys, that's about all most of them ever wear. For the girls and the SD size boys, I have casual clothes that could be shared, but they have such different styles there's rarely much sharing going on.

I usually dont share my girls clothes with one another mostly because they're differ in size and personality! BUt even if they were the same size, i wouldnt mind sharing outfits at all!

I am starting to think that i am more into doll clothes than dolls...
On topic, I have no problem with my dolls sharing, as a matter of fact I prefer them to be able to share.
While they have their personalities and characters, I also like to make them "act" different characters for sessions or for display or whatever.
I also try to buy/commision clothes that can later be mixed-and-matched among my dolls.

i tend to not share them, but mine are all different sizes as well. Mayhem stole Acacia's jeans, and Acacia stole a sweater, but they don't share them anymore. XD they all develop their own style after a while. Usually after I try something on them and it looks awful. (Like lolita mayhem and bohemian Acacia....Mayhem looked ITCHY and acacia looked.. well... Rotund...)
i think if they would share clothing if they were humans then it's fine. -shrug-
My friend calls dolls of the same size sharing clothes as "practising economies of scale". Haha. I do make them share clothes sometimes, like, when it's jeans, or something that both my dolls would wear, but I don't see a point in buying 2 of. Mostly they have some of their OWN clothes but they share plenty as well. It's mostly for the benefit of my wallet though. And anyway, since they wear the same size, it doesn't make sense to buy identical clothing since I won't make a few of them wear it together at the same time, so if they're going to wear that same outfit, they might as well share!

My SD Impldoll Iris stole some skirts from my BBB Espree (MSD) when she first arrived.. luckily, I love making elastic skirts so they fit both my girls!

Depends on the dolls... I like sharing clothes when it's appropriate to do so. My Obitsu's have very distict looks.... But Esther tends to snatch anything she can get her hands on, and often borrows Lotties clothes.
But, you see, with my BJD's, they can't. My two dolls, Florian and Jizabel, are two totally different sizes. Ones an MSD, ones SD17.
But even if they were the same size, clothing swaps still wouldn't occur. As one in a modern gamer, and the other is a victorian mad doctor...
They'd never be able to share clothes. xD
I think when I get another MSD, she'll probably steal from Florian at first, until she gets her own clothes.

A fair few things in my dollie-wardrobe get shared, particularly between my two Brava Bambi's. They're sisters, so it makes sense that the younger one would sometimes take her older sisters clothes. :p
I also have a fullset Minifee Rena- the fullset outfit is going to go to my Juri'10 when she gets here though :)

The only things my girls really share among each other are kimonos and jackets. They're all SD's with completely different body shapes, so anything that's not really tailored they share, as well as stockings, shoes, wigs, and a few other things that stretch. Each girl has her own style though, so sharing clothes isn't all too common here.

I like dressing my group of dolls somewhat cohesively, so I tend to buy neutral pieces in the same color. Each one wears their own style of clothing (casual, formal, punkish, preppy), but there are a couple of items they exchange, like shoes or coats.

All three of my girls are Bobobie/Resinsoul 27cm Tinies, so theoretically they all can share and swap clothes and wigs.
I've pretty much established Alba's identity and character, so she opts out of the clothes swapping. Prim and Rue still share clothing, though, mainly because I still don't have much in the way of clothes for them. That, and Rue doesn't really mind sharing with her "little" sister; when Prim first arrived the wig I'd picked out for her didn't really work, so I swapped it out for Rue's wig at the time.

They share sometimes, but each one has an outfit that belongs to them only. I think it's like their trademark, in my eyes!
If you have dolls that can wear the same size clothing, I think a great perk is sharing clothes & shoes. So my answer is a happy YES!

My girls rarely share chlothes. They are both MSD, but their bodyshapes differ quite a bit, so they can't realy use much of each others clothes.
I dont mind them sharing what they can, though.
They are good friends and live togehter, so I guess if they were human they would probably borrow things from each other anyway.

It was a long time before I had any duplicate sized BJDs in my bunch, so all of them just naturally got their own wardrobes. In some cases, they have several changes of clothes, but some like my FCS MSD Boy "Yamanaka" have spent years with only a single outfit. Poor Yam, when I ordered him, Volks didn't even have any MSD boy Welcoming Outfits, so he arrived nekkid as a jaybird. LOL! Thanks to Wicked Stitchery, he soon had a cool pair of trousers and a top, but that's all. It wasn't until late last week that I finally found an outfit that I think looks adult enough for my guy...the Olive Steam Engineer outfit on Volks Japan! It probably would've cost me less if I could've shopped for it on Volks USA, but there's no guarantee they'd even stock it. Better to grab it now than have to wait five more years for just the right ensemble to suit his personality. ;)
All that said, some of my dolls do share wigs. But like the clothing, once I see that a look or style is perfect on one of them, I tend to leave it to that particular doll.

When I had a short amount of doll clothes (hah, still do), I would do some swapping to make one doll look more presentable if I took them out with me to school or work. I also have a YoSD that's currently wearing MSD sized clothes. At first it was to keep him covered, but now... I can't really picture him in fittng clothes. |D"
I don't do it often now, but I'm all for swapping outfits. Especially if I have the time and if the clothes fit right.

I don't think that my dolls will share clothing.
I don't have a problem with dolls that do, but all of my dolls are going to have different stories and personalities, with clothes to match.
Maybe they'll fight over a simple shirt or a pair of socks, but they'll have clothing that's for them, and theirs only.
They'll only share things that can be considered generic. ;)

None of my dolls are of a size to share clothing, except kimono-style things that don't have closures at the same spot, so it's hard to share clothes among them! Sometimes I do, though.

my girls will share occasionally. It does look funny when on of them, with a completely different personality, tries to wear out of character clothes. Like my super punk-style girl dressed in sweet lolita. XD
