View Full Version : Question! Angelsdoll good/bad? O_o

Angelsdoll is having an event sale with free shipping, making the doll I want nearly half the price if I get it before the sale ends. I'm in a panic at this point.
My question is has anyone here dealt with this company? I didn't seen any reviews for it on the forum for reviews. I'm so afraid that if I buy the doll, the company will go bust or something, or that all the nightmares I've heard of in the past will happen, just because I so want the doll and it's nearly half price.

I have not heard of any reviews yet either, however, do be aware that this company uses computer aided sculpting. Their WIP photos are 3D computer graphic models (http://www.bjdcollectasy.com/angels-doll/angelsdoll-news-2.html), and while I don't know for sure, it can be assumed they use 3D printing to make the prototype to make a mold.

Den of Angels may have a feedback thread in their company review subforum. As well, a google search may return something.

I wish you luck in your endeavor!

This is the girl I've been looking at:

http://www.angelsdoll.net/shop/step1.php?number=643

She's so adorable, and with free shipping, minus the 30% she's an incredible deal.

I'm just very wary of a doll company I have heard nothing of other than the BJD Collectasy posts.

I suppose someone looking for a one of a kind work of art would mind 3D computer use, but...O_o I'm confused about your comment's meaning.

I get your meaning, Tosspot. Some companies such as Shapeways will take an object you create and make a model of it by layering plastic repeatedly. There are many youtube videos about it just google Shapeways and it should give you some stuff. That aside, I don't see how that would detract from the mold if they did.

Whenever I'm checking on the validity of a company I google search their name with the word "scam" or "problem" to see if there have been any complaints about them. If you've seen people posting good reviews about them in forums, though, I'd assume they are safe. As long as they were a lot of posts and not just one lol ^^;. That sounds like a fantastic deal on a doll that you've wanted for a long time, so it's definitely worth doing the research. If you do decide to do it, make sure you are provided a safe form of payment option (like paypal) and that you get receipts.

I am planning on using 3D printing to make the prototype for my dolls, and don't really understand why that would be considered bad. Because when it comes down to it the quality is based on the aesthetics of the doll, how smoothly the joints work and the material it is made out of. All dolls are cast in duplicates, so no doll is really "a unique piece of art" until it is customized. Is there something about 3D printing that I am missing out on? x.x

I only found one passing mention of the company on a Google cached page from the Den of Angles forum. I've thrown the money at them. Now I'm waiting for the business day to start in South Korea to hear from them on my questions about shipping and skin color. I know BJD Collectasy reviews a lot of companies, but they are a blog, not an investigative news source. I've also learned that news is news and business is something entirely different. They can point and talk about something, but they don't check for financial security. And people can have one bad event with a very trusted company, so I just hope this will go well. At least it's not a 6 to 9 months doll order. (yet?)

3D printing is just--amazing. I can't believe they are talking replacement organs with living tissue by 3D printing, I'm still awed by the doll making possibilities. And think of the wasted effort and materials (and if you want to be 'green', saving carbon from being put into the atmosphere) with the hit and miss by hand method, as honorable as it is.

Angelsdoll does seem to keep in good contact with their customers in a forum on the site, but most of the posts are privacy locked, so it's difficult to judge whether they are having any issues/resolutions going on.

I wish you the best of luck with your purchase :) It sounds like they are a reliable company.

Isn't it crazy?! Replacement organs, replacement tissue... Science is awesome. I'm planning to use 3D printing to make my dolls extremely customizable. And to use it to fiddle with joints, to try to find the most attractive looking joint. Traditional doll making is a beautiful thing, and I do have the skills to sculpt a traditional doll. But 3D printing will save so much on wasted materials, and I won't have to work with Styrofoam lol. That stuff is so messy x.x

Hi Ranjora,

Sorry I didn't find this thread before. I hope I can be reassuring, as you've already ordered - I have a Jin and she's one of my very favourite dolls, or maybe even my absolute favourite. She's an absolutely beautiful sculpt. Mine is in a skin tone they don't offer anymore and two versions of bodies back, so she won't be exactly what you're getting - but I can reassure that the resin is beautiful, quite heavy and smooth but with a velvety texture rather than slick, and I just love her like crazy. I thought their customer service was great, too. I don't think you will be disappointed. ^_^

There's a Flickr group for Angelsdoll here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/angelsdoll/) with lots of pictures of Jin, and there are quite a few of their boy dolls around and a discussion in Large Dolls on Den of Angels. I think they are slowly gaining popularity, and I'm glad, because I think they deserve more attention.

I'm ordering a Hyang this sale, I will try to remember to post reviews and pics here, although I am not much of a photographer.

Please do! I was really tempted by the Hyang event fullset, I'd love to see pics when she arrives :).

I don't know why the quote thing didn't work, I probably erased something in the html.

Hi, Lindley,

I'm just so excited now, I can't wait. I keep checking every day, knowing that they will only update once or so, but my payment has officially left my bank, so yay!

Thank you for the link to the photos! :D

What I really want is a doll that can house a cpu and work as a computer, looking much better on my desk, but that's just insane....(too much anime watching going on here).
May I stalk you? ;) I'm very curious about the whole process. I need to dig up my old blogger account and activate it again.

Hee, your excitement is so cute! I can't wait to see your Jin when she comes! I think she is officially my favourite sculpt, there's no other sculpt quite like her.

I'm dying for my Hyang, too. And I want an Iseult and a Ruby. I might just give up on other companies in the future, my wishlist seems to be filling...

@ Lindley, I am a horrible person. Jin got switched for Michael with a bit of off side bargaining. It's like, oh your baby is cuter than mine, want to trade? in the maternity ward? Gawd I'm awful! There was just something so compelling about him, I was lead astray by a red tie. He'd better be as good or better than his photos because that Baku they just put up needs a stylist badly. I just have to hope that they have another sale sometime after I've paid this one off.
