so forgive me if this is a noobish question, but while shopping around, i have noticed a lot of girl dolls that actually have boy bodies. i know many of the boys are very feminine, but when the doll is pictured in a miniskirt, its kind of hard to mistake. not only that, but a lot of the boys are actually quite "pretty" and could pass as girls. i was wondering if a lot of people do that. have girls that are on a boy body, or even use a boy sculpt as a girl. even though you cant tell when the doll is dressed, i dont know i think it would bother me, especially the "anatomically correct" ones. just curious :P

I'm not sure what you mean. I've seen a lot of boy dolls wearing miniskirts in this hobby. >.>;;

I think that's what hybrids are if I'm not mistaken. I have seen a couple ppl do it. They put girl heads on boy bodies and vice versa.

My Orihime is a "boy" head on a girl body. Wasn't planned. Just kind of happened that way. :sweat
I bought him complete as a boy, but just wanted the body for another boy head I had. Tried to sell the head as a boy, and it just wasn't selling. SO, tried a girly wig, and BAM was faced with a girl character I hadn't considered before, but he was PERFECT for her. So, I got him a girl body, and now he's a pretty girl.

Dollmore uses the same sculpt head for both girl and boy. Like Pado. You can get the Pado head on either a girl or boy body. Same with most all of the "kid" versions of their dolls.

But in my case, it just happened that the boy sculpt head was girly enough to be a girl.

Louis as a boy:

And Iris, what I swear is the girl version of the Louis head:

My Orihime:

It's all part of the hobby: customization. Want that girl head as a boy? Pop it on a boy body! :) Want a beefier body? You can give it a shot! :) It's all good.

I have a blank tender e-an head (dod dot girl) waiting for me to experiment with, and when I look at it, I can see it as a pretty good looking guy if painted properly. I don't have a body for it, but I have not problems with experimenting with it anyway. Its just a blank head.

If it's on a boy body but is wearing a miniskirt, 99.9% of the time the character is a boy. Just one that wears skirts. It's almost never a girl character that's on a boy body. I've seen that happen maybe 3 times, and one of those is mine (my littlefee body is a boy, but one of the faceplates is a girl, so she wears bloomers and dresses and no one knows the difference) and one of the others has since been sold. There are TONS of skirt-and-dress wearing boys around in the hobby. I always assume a doll (larger than Yo size) is a boy no matter what it is dressed like, unless it has obvious breasts. Otherwise I check the doll's name to see and if the owner has used "he" or "she", and if that doesn't hint the gender I try not to use gender specific pronouns about it at all!

If you mean switching heads, though, that's also common. 3 (formerly 4) of my girls are heads that are intended to be boys, and I have also had a boy with a head that's intended to be a girl. Dolkot sells their heads (for minis anyway) on either body, but give them different names - Day and Daisy are the same exact head, just Day is on a boy body and Daisy is on the girl body. In the Fairyland A-La-Carte system you can get any Minifee head on any body, no matter what it was intended to be originally. Volks Full Choice System also allows you to put most (maybe all) of the heads on either body you choose. Soom's Vega and Dia are girls, except Vega was released as a boy limited edition with fantasy parts, and Sard seems to be a Dia boy with fantasy parts added.

Most (though NOT all) boy and girl heads fit the same on the bodies, so switching it is pretty easy. One thing that can be a complicating factor is faceups - I sold my Soom Gena boy because it had a lovely, but a little girlier than I wanted, default faceup I didn't want to wipe. I also recently wiped a Fairyland Minifee El default faceup, as it was too boyish for the girl character the owner wanted, so I gave it a girlier faceup for her.

Hybrids are when you use a head from one company on a body from a different company.

My only girl doll so far is actually a "boy" sculpt that I hybrid to be female instead. I could never find a "girl" sculpt that I liked enough but I found plenty of "boy" sculpts I liked and found they could pass as either.

There are plenty of dolls out there who are boys on a girls body modded into a boy by cutting off the boobs, sanding and what have we.
I don't own such a doll myself, though it did cross my mind with one of my dollies but decided against it as I didn't like him not being anatomically correct. So instead I'm working on making his body a bit more feline-looking.

I see well there was a person talkin about her/his doll being a girls head on a boy body and said it was a hybrid so i thought that's what she ment by hybrid lol. Thanks for letting me kno xD.

interesting. i see so many dolls that are just so beautiful i think, oh i definately want her! and then i look further down & see it is a boy, lol. so many of the boy heads are so much prettier than the girl ones! i think i may just eventually do what a couple of you mentioned and make a "hybrid". sorry if my original post was unclear, didnt mean to be confusing. and aernath those two iplehouse faces definately look the same ;)
& ruki that sounds very interesting, how are you making it more feline?

I'm modifying his entire torso, making his waistline slimmer and more curvy-looking and sanding down the muscular chest and stomach of his. I know one could go buy a girls body for all of this but that wouldn't be half as much fun as it is sitting modding my way through all of it.

I'm serious. In this hobby, if it's not got breasts ask first. It's a boy in a dress at least as often as it is a girl, if not more often. If it's bigger than Yo size I always assume boy or just say "Oh! So cute!" and hope they tell me the name. :nod

I think if people have a boy in a dress they have no cause to be mad when people guess it's a girl, but honestly I get "girl" for some of mine and I do roll my eyes a little sometimes. No, Riddick and Fitch, with their shirts wide open, are not girls. Nor is Jester, with his sheer shirt and 6-pack. Though I am not really bothered about Jester, he is wearing stockings and hotpants. ;) I kind of expect it with Devon, since he's got archy brows and dark lipstick, no matter how I dress him.

hahaha well i think if you call a boy with his shirt open & chest exposed a girl, then you deserve whatever dirty looks youve got comming ;)
basically im at the point where if its got boobs, its a girl. and other than the above situation, i just use the "its cute"

I have a "boy" doll with a rather pretty face that's currently in a long coat with a longer wig, that one is always assumed to be a girl. They usually sit next to my Domuya Sera, which has a more masculine face but a non-gendered body. I don't correct anyone calling Tai a girl, even though that doll's body has male bits, as the character (and Sera's) the doll became is androgynous, and both are from other planets, to boot - it's easier not to go into that with random people!

My more manly dolls do not get mistaken like that, my big boys, but they don't wear dresses. They wouldn't fit in them! And a headswap to a girl body, for those guys, looks pretty funny given the relative sizes. Going the other way, swapping a 60cm head from one of my girls, which was originally a boy sculpt, onto a 65cm boy body and clothes set, still doesn't make her look like an actual guy. And MiniFees genders are determined by the configuration of clothes and body at the time - I have El and Ruth with their sleeping heads, two event heads (no faceups), and a body of each sex, and given how easy it is to swap their heads, everyone becomes everything at some point in time. Basically you can be whatever you want to be, here, as long as everything fits. But boy dolls currently having boy personas do not typically wear dresses, or at least if they do, they don't let me see!

I have a boy that dresses like a girl and could easily be mistaken for one (his headsculpt is available as both a girl and a boy from the company, if that tells you anything). He's my only boy currently who really falls into that category -- most of my guys dress like average guys and have natural looking faceups.

I have a few boy dolls who dress 'girly', and two who are in between, one girl and a couple of guys. I don't care if people call my boys/androgynous thingies girls, really. I just don't have a thing for manly men..people often assume that all boy dolls who wear dresses are giggling, submissive, girly yaoi fangirl characters, but that's not it at all. I just like how the clothes look on them.

My Chiwoo is a girl, but is on the stock boy body. I just chose a boy body because I liked the shape under clothes - I'd wanted a flatchested girl & saw no reason to go to the trouble of sanding off boobs when I could just buy the boy body and be done with it. And no, I haven't sanded off the penis either - I don't even think about it.

But she doesn't wear miniskirts.

So yeah: boy mold, boy body, but I present her as a girl.

thats more along the lines of what i was originally wondering, if anyone had a girl that was actually a boy body. because im sort of the same way- liking the looks of a flat-chested girl, but the "anatomical correctness" of a boy body would bother me, even though you would never see it :p also i like the looks of most boy faces better than girls. since this thread ive gotten my first human doll which is an aod an (usually a boy) on a girls body and she is just perfect <3

Being able to mix/match bodies (or not) and just present them as whatever you want is a really freeing aspect of the hobby. I shopped for months for a girl mold as my first doll, until it dawned on me that I could use a boy head. And then, hell, a boy body too - why not! Yay!

... 'course, that expanded the possibilities so much that it took me another age or three to choose, and that's how I got a Chiwoo girl. :)

Congratulations on your perfect girl, Keelah!

MNF Lishe would make a supercute boy, awesome.

I don't really have any cross-dressing boys. I have some outfits for them that involve skirts and such, but they all still look like boys, I think... (Or maybe it's just me?)

Anyway, I haven't tried dressing a boy in girl clothes with the intention of passing him off as a girl...

Well said.
I love to have all those possibilities. Since I got into the hobby, I learned never to say never. Had a baby boy dressing as a girl, had a boy head on flat chested girl body dressing as a boy. Who knows what`s coming next ;)

Today I partially paid (oh, Christmas, how I love thy account draining abilities, lol) for a Migidoll Yuri head which is a boy mold, but she is my lovely Veloria and nothing can change it ^^

My girl doll cosplays boy anime characters who dress like girls. The artists tend to be more haute couture on the cross dressing characters, so I find that Kuragehime, Princess Princess, and Moyashimon characters have the costumes I want to try making. So Jiji, my latest addition, will be double cross dressing.
I guess she's channeling my inner raving mad fan girl, LOL.

I gave my sister a Bobobie boy body with a girl head and she hated it. Details, details. I took the doll back and have her in a shoe box.
