I finally opened the Volks Kimono set last night. This particular one came from Sato, but I did see some at the Volks store in LA this past April. The inner kimono is fantastic in its own right. It is a light shade of pink with a very light design embedded in the fabric. The design matches the outer kimono. It is lined and appears to be a fine silk. The outer kimono is a beautiful blue fabric with a fantastic floral pattern on it. It is lined with a fine dark red silk. The belt or obi is also very fitting. The bow is permanently tied and the obi closes with a large Velcro area.

The website mentions that the Kimonos are made of old fabric and may have stains or discolorations. In my sample there are none. It is clear that the fabric is very old and has a very slight goldh order. It is not offensive by any means and only noticeable if the fabric is smelled directly.

I keep coming back to one word to describe it and that is gWowh. Wow, Volks did the Kimono right with this one. If you want a Kimono, run to your nearest Volks store and get one while you can.

I have some photos from the initial fitting, but they are 18 meg photos and are huge. I need to take some more with a web friendly camera. Will try to do that this week and post them. It is stunning compared to anything else I have. I need to find the instruction sheet as things were included in the set, that I do not know how to use.

Thanks so much! I am super excited to see it since not only does it sound exquisite but having the fabric be older fabric as well makes it even more special!

Can't wait to see it, since I don't have a Volks store within 'running' distance! :)

My vintage kimono have the same "odor" as my Volks kimono. I think its from the dye and paint used to make the patterns. Also, kimono in Japan are often stored with mothballs in wooden chests since moths have been noted to destroy kimono fabric. I do love the Volks kimono sets-they are so well done and accurate (except for the boy kimonos with the obi tied at the front)

Tracy-the Volks USA store has a few in stock but are not listed on their website. You can call them and see if they can help you if you are interested.
