Am I the only one who finds this change a little odd? I feel as though countries outside of Asia are in the complete understanding of what "Normal Skin" and "White/Snow Skin" are refering to, as they are so widely used from company to company.
Personally I think it's really confusing, why change skin color names? I'm both curious and amused.

Because it's politically incorrect. The opposite of 'normal' is 'abnormal', which would indicate that any other color besides the general skin tone is that.
Korean law has already changed color names on crayons, markers, so on and so forth in 2002, where 'flesh' and 'skin' was changed to other more color true names such as 'peach' or 'light orange'.
Because most Korean dollmakers just simply adopted the Volks color naming schema in the beginning this wasn't brought up as an issue, but as the Korean dollmakers started to branch out internationally this has been pointed out and accordingly being dealt with.
Eventually, it's not only BC that would be changing names. What they change it into, whether the company opts for true color names or something more poetic is their prerogative.

Thanks for clarifying that, Suzy. It's true, what is normal anyway? But it sounds so complicated, they way they do it, and it will continue to confuse people. I prefer to say basic skintone. Which can be lighter (white) or darker (tan). But there will probably never be a way that makes everyone happy.

Wow, really? :o that makes sense then, that's interesting...

Wow, those names are bizarre. Although the explanation by Suzy makes sense. Though I'm glad I read it here before noticing it on their webpage because I'd be seriously confused :o

I am all for accurate color names, but if we're being PC, where does "pureskin" fit in? Or is that not a colorname as such?

pure skin is just a volks term, just like "beauty white" is just white skin, and just like CP's "real skin"... it's just a company specific name for one of their resin tones.

Somehow the change of the skintone names fits Bambicrony. They have that so-cute-we-create-cavities theme going and the new names work. Peach puff skin sounds obnoxiously cute!

I think it also might have something to do with the fact that what BC called "snow" skin wasn't white at all -- it was more the color of, say, a pale normalskin. (My S.Kumi shipped with a snowskin upper torso on her normalskin body, so I've had lots of opportunities to compare @_@) So I'd seen a lot of people getting confused/upset because they ordered a snowskin doll expecting it to be WHITE and it was, well, flesh-colored.

Ok, I have to say, I read the title of this and totally thought you meant "Names people have made up for the colors their colored elves are changing to"
Like MistyGreen for the blue elves and such! XD

Good to know I was not the only one expecting the thread to be about that. :sweat

Ha ha, Misty Green indeed! OT though, I think it's cute and a lot less cryptic than "Normal". Normal for what? An anemic vampire?

The new Floral white will indeed be white. I got a confirmation from BC saying:
Hi, FunnyLori!
Of course it's different.
The new floral white skin starting from November 5th is much whiter than the old snow white skin.
I'll explain the difference clearly in our webpage on November 5th.
Thank you.

That's really weird considering the announcement of the name change said "It's just the change of names. It doesn't mean the change of colors or a new color"
Why did they just contradict that? :o

I totally agree with this. ^^; I also found the change rather appropriate in that sense.
