I was recently at the Volks LA store. One of the employees brought up that the Volks Ginza store was closing soon due to a rent issue. If you are in the area, you might want to go by before it is closed. I was told there were going to be some special edition SDfs for the event that are only going to be available at that store before it closes.

Hmm ' due to 'rent issues' ?
I have been wondering how Volks has been fairing in this horrible economy. I wonder if they are going to open somewhere else or just leave it be.

They have so many outlets in Tokyo that I doubt they're in a hurry to open another. I've been to the Ginza store twice. The staff was lovely even taking the time to recommend a restaurant close by when I asked (in Japanese). But I never saw another soul in there and its only a sumika not a full showroom of all their products, so I think i understand why they are closing. too bad as that store always had a good assortment of off-brand merchandise from other dealers.

As I understand it there's a fair amount of renovating and moving around going on in Ginza that might well raise the rent, so it may not be purely the lagging economy. Volks has been shifting around their stores lately, building bigger hobby stores and closing some others (eg Osaka showroom's next, but Lalaport just expanded and I think Kyoto's getting a hobby centre).

They're doing three rounds of special One-offs and are in the middle of number two. I put in for the Williams (nyaa, not a chance . . .). The line-up in the second round was just incredible so I'm a little afraid of the final round! They're also doing exclusive re-releases of retired FCS heads, and there'll be a major closing sale.

I'm a bit sad about it, but the manager and clerk who used to be there were moved to different stores a few months back and they were part of the draw for me.

When at the LA store recently I was told that the Ginza store is now closed. About 6 weeks ago. Some of the LA stores employees had closing event buttons to commemorate the closing. They also knew about the closing event limited and specials.

I am going to miss this little store.

Aw, that's so sad! That was one of the places I wanted to visit when I went to Japan someday! :( Curses...
