I might have the scare up the cash for this guy. I love sci-fi and this guy really reminds me of H.R. Giger's stuff. He's an LE of 100 world wide and will be available in three different resin colors, not specified yet. I can't wait.

Well Fantasia was limited to 50 and she is selling at $405 so I'd consider that to be the likely low end. The DDE exclusive twins are $350 each. I'd guess he won't be too pricey with those as previous examples.

Yeah, Fantasia is still available on Impl's site, and DDE still lists their exclusive twins on their site. I guess Impl isn't well known enough yet for the very small runs to sell out fast.

Impldoll did layaway originally, though since they've changed their website I don't see mention of it anymore. Hmm. You could probably ask Sean/Sakkness. :) Or order through DDE, but I tend to prefer ordering direct. ^^;

Jointed hands that matched would really look good on him. I keep looking at the human jointed hands and think, yes on the posability but no on the detail. The fingers are too sausage-like for me.

I like that you can get the bodies by themselves. I am sick of combing splits trying to find something that works at a decent price. Now if only they would offer a skin color a bit closer to the Minimee. i have a veritable army of floating heads that would look good on the Star boy body. A couple of them require something bigger.

On a semi-not-really-related note, I swear Impldoll's customer service is what sets them apart for me, even above their increasingly creative sculpting and awesome body posing. I've been talking with Sean about getting a grey skinned body for my Euclase meditation head, but I had a few hiccups with the order system... so he went in and added a grey-skin drop down to the order page to accommodate me. ^____^ How awesome is that?

I actually got a PM regarding this guy on the now-LOCKED "discussion" thread on the other place... "Thank you for being the voice of reason!" Which, for Aernath and Crystal at least ought to be a pretty good hoot...

but my point there was something along the lines of "I don't understand why the issue even arose; think of Dollshe WooTan or whatever the heck his name is. Weirder than owl poo, bug-looking alien dude on the Body With A Bazillion Bits. I really liked him but he sure didn't look like our normal ABJD and they didn't even blink at him. Nor at Machina, nor the AoD guy with the amazingly ghastly alternate wolf face... (I keep wanting to call him Ferguson for some reason. Long day).

And what about Celestyn and other dolls that have had bits and pieces molded on or carved into them as part of the sculpt?

But I will be seeing what I can do about getting this guy. That's one of the coolest looking things I've EVER seen ... even if I ended up with only that fantastic face I'd be a happy camper.

Mmmm Baakay more reason than I am ;) But I was saying just the same thing about Batchix Machina to Teph this afternoon. She certainly doesn't fit the so called "Asian Aesthetic"

I'm suspecting the concern is probably about the part where they must be able to wear wigs and clothes, since I doubt any doll that obviously is well-jointed in the part you see is going to be any different from the waist down (though now I'm picturing him a solid robot R2D2 type body with wheels from the waist down... though the mermaid Pukis were allowed and they have little to nothing below the waist joint-wise) - but based on Machina and the anthros that are allowed this one should go too. Though I think they have tightened the requirements since those came out. I was surprised this one was locked and the unicorns weren't, though.

So I'm guessing at least half of it is checking to make sure this is really original, based on the company history of making similar dolls that aren't quite copies. I try to always assume the mods have the best intentions, it makes things at least seem nicer.

The 'ears' appear to be placed about where Christoper's ears are, and she can wear wigs just fine. Better than Bobobie's... Ju, is it? I was seriously tempted to sand a little above those ears to make wigs sit better, but the doll wasn't mine so I abstained. ^^;

In the back of my mind, I'm wondering if maybe they're thinking over there, that it's another Soom similarity. This time to the Idealian. He was a demon hunter, and had half his face and left arm as "different", whereas this guy has his whole head totally different, and a little more than just his left arm. But it does look like the special bits on the body are limited to his left side.

More of the concept, and definitely just glancingly similar.
Branon's Janus parts were a faceplate that was sinister looking on the left, and a special left arm and hand that had what looked like bone or demon skin showing (depending on how you blush it, and your imagination). Branon is also "Half Demon/Monster Hunter".
So the concepts are similar... but to me, it is grasping at straws.
Which is what I'm doing, trying to fathom why this Miguel would cause any problems with on/off topicness.

I agree that it's better to give them thar mods the benefit of the doubt. However, they do make me raise my eyebrows from time to time.

There are dolls out there with similar (or even the same) names. There are only so many storylines out there so there's bound to be overlap. I don't see how there can be copying in this case considering how long it takes these dolls to be made, from concept, sculpt, prototype, and finished doll.

But yeah, I'm wondering if he'll sell out quickly with all the attention.

I think I can explain that. It's a subconscious trait of right handed people, artists in particular, to start on the left side of the subject. So naturally, if there are special parts particular to one side, it's more likely to be on the left.

When I paint, draw, or sculpt I start on the left side of the characters face. I work the same way when I do face ups, I start with the left side of the doll's face.

So I really don't think they are trying to emulate what Soom did with Brannon at all.

He's got an almost classical face on him, like he could have been lifted from a Renaissance fresco or sculpture. He has the most interesting nose and a slight smirk on his lips. *rubs hands together* He's going to fun to play with. :dance

I have to say, they are the model of efficiency at Impl. I posted on the Q&A board about making my layaway payment and got a reply just a few hours later. They even replied to the Paypal "you've got money" email. Wow. :clap

On a related note, did anyone get an email forwarded (allegedly) from Impldoll? This is the subject line: Fw: ID Notice from IMPLDOLL It tells me to log in using a default password, and a painfully obvious one at that. What is really odd is when I try to view the source I can't see the message anywhere. Just a heap of random numbers/letters. I'm not on my laptop so I can't check and see if the site's been hacked or not.

I got it, and I didn't bother to use the password they gave, just changed it in the usual way and now I can log in again. So it seems they have indeed fixed whatever weird issues they were having.

*OT* There's no reason they can't STILL be flames, Tygati-san! ^-^ After all, once you get it, its so up to you what it is. I'm enjoying listening to everyone talk about it. I showed it too my mom and she went "Demon? Are you sure he's a hunter and not a demon? He's cool looking!" XD I have the most awesome parent.

Oh, I could totally paint them up like flames, but I'm sorta going to hybrid him, and red & gold flames so wouldn't go with the existing scheme. ^^;; I'm kind of pondering ways around this. ;)

Proof of awesome mom:

I showed my mother Miguel the other day, because I was looking at him and she likes scifi stuff as much as me. We watch DoctorWho together. So I showed her and she went "ooooou, he looks cool. Are you sure he's not the demon?" and on with our day. Today she came up to me and said "How much is that doll you showed me? The one with all the pointy bits."

I snerked.

HARD.

I went and looked and showed her and she about had a cow over the price, but she said she had a DREAM about that doll the other day and it kinda made her want one. XD She said she wouldn't mind a tiny that looked like that. She wants to start with a small one and see if she likes it first. X3

Aernath - Its not me that wants it, its my MOM! XD She was dreaming about that doll and wanted to see if she might be able to get it, but its way too much. I may see if I can't find her a tiny at some point that's fairly inexpensive (she said she'd rather start with something small and cheap-ish around a hundred dollars) for her that she can mess with and paint. XD

As for Miguel, I just have no space for the guy at all (plus being mostly broke), so I'll just admire everyone elses.

^^;; Er, Resinality has a lot of nifty little groups you can join, so that you don't have to see stuff you're not interested in, but can see the things you are.
So I'm on the SD+ and boys groups, but not the MSD or girls groups. ^^;;
