View Full Version : What attracts you to a doll mold?

What captures you about a certain face mold, making you choose it over the others by that company? If it isn't overall look, is it the lips? The hands? Those pudgy little cheeks?
For me, it's eyes. Give me the right shaped eyes, and I am all for it! Luts El has good eyes. So does the classic Narae, and Soah.
Lips are a factor, but I am far more forgiving of lips if the eyes are good. For example, my AR Diana has lips a bit pouty, which isn't generally my thing... but she has such nicely shaped eyes, I forgive her the pout.

Expression plays a big part for me.
I don't like surly, excessively pouty or sad dolls.
I hear you on the eyes. I was hoping Ruby would turn out ugly below the eyeline because her eye sculpt was deliciously exotic and interesting. ;)
Hands are important too. I love my Elfdoll Wu's hands. They add so much to the look of the doll. Its one of the reasons I never bought a Happydoll Dorothy. I love her head and all the permutations but her hands look like sad little velociraptor claws and its a huge turnoff.

A big turn-on for me and a sculpt is the mouth. I love wide mouths and rather full lips. I didn't even realize it until Wotan kindly pointed it out to me one day. ^^; (He also accuses me of having a thing for dolls with a "llama lip"--those excessively long upper lips like on Volks F-17 or Nanuri '06. ;p )
I'm also an unbashed sucker for a prominent nose. I nearly died in glee when I saw Unidoll Jace's profile. All my dolls have big or long noses. XD
If I really love the mouth and nose, I'll forgive just about any other flaw the sculpt might have. Eye shape doesn't move me as much, though I have a tendency toward smaller-eyed dolls, though that may be because dolls with wider mouths and more prominent noses tend toward the more "realistic" end of the spectrum, and as a result have smaller eyes.
I'm a also a sucker for gorgeous hands, or at the very least expressive hands. I had to sell the old CH body I had because it had the most uninspired hands that I had ever seen. For all their posing issues, I love my DIM boys because of their long, beautiful fingers. The same goes for my CP dolls. I'm not crazy about their bodies, but they do have pretty, pretty hands.

I love prominent noses and full lips. I'm so thrilled that a Corvi is coming to live at my house soon! :D Eye shape is important too. I like long narrow eyes - that's the primary reason I'll be getting an F30 and was the initial draw for my Dreaming Shiwoo and Sleepy Igon. I am most obsessive over hands though. I collect hands, so CP has my eternal gratitude because they have so many optional expressions available.
I guess I can't say that any one thing always gets me, I almost prefer to have a doll whose facial features aren't quite what I want so that I have a chance to modify them. I don't care for thin features much unless they are exactly what I was looking for because then there isn't anything for me to carve away! :p

I can't think of many things that would make me decide to get a doll. :sweat I guess I tend to go the other way with it-- certain features can turn me off for a particular sculpt. Spacing of the eyes and shape/size of the mouth are two big ones, and to a lesser extent the shape of the eyes. I also notice the jawline and cheeks quite a bit. All in all, my likes go towards mature, more realistic sculpts. That's why I have such a hard finding a (don't hate...) Volks sculpt I like. A lot of the FCS heads bother me on one of those particulars: tiny mouth, big eyes, very small jaw. Most of what I like feature-wise is superficial, and has almost nothing to do with the sculpt. Eyebrows would be my biggest hang-up, I think. I really notice the shape and placement of eyebrows; it's hell on me when I try and do a faceup. :tantrum
There are a couple of features body-wise that I pay attention to. First is proportion-- does the head fit the body? Do the parts of the body match up? After that, I begin to look at some of the subtle areas of sculpting. How is the back sculpted, or how are the arms and legs sculpted? Finally, since I'm pervy, the body has to look good naked. :blush I'll never be picking up a Dollmore Lilis Liv for that reason.
For me, if it's not seeking a particular character, it's something i can only describe as "recognition."
I have prosopagnosia (also known as face blindness - wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosopagnosia)) , and as such, and as such, it's very difficult for me to find a face that dosen't become just a jumble of unrelated data points the moment i look away from it, if it ever made any visual sense at all. When i find one, i pounce on it and cling for dear life. It's such an important avenue of human connection, expression, and simple beauty, and one that is, neurologically, a very narrow door that is difficult to pass through.
It also makes getting faceups a right royal pain in the ass, but that's another thread. :oops
the nose! :D i'm a sucker for sharp noses *__*
then the eyes, i prefer them small.... and the general head shape...

Partially-closed eyes, lips, and noses :B I love me a good set of lips, and I'm a sucker for dreaming dolls, even when I might not even like the non-dreaming version much. Like Syo - I like Syo well enough, but don't really want one for myself. But dreaming Syo... nurrrr. Yes, please.
Also, K-dolls have the most gorgeous lips *____*; It sounds wrong, I know, but Kyu's mouth makes me so happy. Good lips and sleepy eyes? When I first opened his box I felt like I'd died and gone to BJD heaven XD
For me it's big eyes and an open mouth with teeth...Yes Lisa, I know you know. ;) And for a 'younger' doll, chubby cheeks are great too! :) CP Soony and the Volks 4Sisters head most closely represent what I really, really like in a girl doll. I love realistic faces too, but big eyes and an open mouth will get me every time.

For me it's a bunch of factories really. I often first notice their lip shape and their noses... also eyes etc. For ones I am considering to own is their looks and how I can mold them into a character look I like etc.

Facials: proportion nose and lips.
For me its the proportion, nose and lips. While a doll can have lovely eyes, if the rest of the mold doesn't match up; i reject it- only because i'm more or likely able to modify the eyes similar to that mold.
I like a doll with a timeless quality to it. Not so much "classic", but a model that is both versatile and distinct to the character i have in mind.
Proximity to my character: how much i can relate to it
I've seen a tonne of dolls that have the capability to resemble my characters; but often it's one facial characteristic out of place or the doll is on a completely different wavelength and manages to match my character by a thread. I guess expressions and the lips contribute most in this particular criteria.
Perfect/imperfect complex
There's also the perfect/imperfect complex ... i like my dolls to have that air about them being perfect for the shell they're in.. whether they are disfigured; a popular and highly sought after mold e.t.c there are some companies i avoid because their molds don't hold that kind of essence i look for. I don't even know if i'm making sense anymore... I'm obviously intoxicated with a lack of sleep... but i'm trying D;!
Expression!
If i want a doll to look melancholy there is no way in hell i am going to work at a mold where the eye depressions and nose do not work with the expression.
If a mold was perfect except for *one* area; i would probably give it a shot; or wait for one like it to come out.
I know i spent forever trying to find a suitable mold for one of my dolls; like a little bit of each feature from a wide variety of dolls- they fit; but it wasn't all there; nothing clicked even with modifying attempts.
In the end, a maker released the perfect mold for her and i was set.
Style and common element of "fitting" with each other
Like all artists there is a style, an element that pulls all dolls together; if it breaks you get a family of humans aliens and zebras that all try to match in some way. It's like pairing a bleach character to a clamp artwork. I guess it all comes down to this one:
They all have to "fit". No matter how different they look. Not necessarily match each other; just somehow "fit" together.

i'd be attracted to a doll that matches a character i'd like to bring home in resin!
Otherwise, it'd be the character reflected in the mould (i'm really attracted to moulds reflecting calm characters or slightly melancholic expressions) and along with that, the facial proportions (my preference lies with eyes that have wider space apart from each other and are not too big in proportion to the rest of the face... i also like smaller mouths).

For dolls that I actually buy, it tends to be the eyes and the mouth. I usually have really specific descriptions of my characters eyes and mouths, so when I find a doll that has the perfect "almond shaped eyes" or "kissable lips" and just seem to fit. . . that's usually what I go for. Of course it usually takes some time to find one that fits overall, but those are the features I look for most.
For others that I think are pretty. . . it seems to be just overall appeal. Expression, eye-shape, how the lips are molded, cheekbones, and oddly enough, sometimes ears. I tend to not like ears that stick out too much, unless the wig can hide it.

There are no features that I have to have in a doll. Instead, I usually have a vague idea of what the doll's personality should be, and I search until I find a head mold that exhibits that personality. I wanted a sweet yet spunky girl for my first, so I picked MSD Magie. I wanted a Yo-sized doll that was cute and mischievous, and Papi came around at the perfect time. I wanted a mature, beautiful, and slightly boyish SD-sized girl, and Cristal filled that void perfectly. The only one of my dolls that doesn't fit the mold is my Hana, and she was definitely an impulse buy. I decided on her because her little faces were all so perfectly made :).

I'm drawn towards dolls with big eyes. While I might love the mold overall, I just can't see myself ever owning a tender/dreaming type doll (with the exception of a Tender Too since his eyes aren't as shut as most) simply because I like being able to see a lot of the eye. The lips of a doll can also be a big factor on if I want one or not, which makes me dislike the majority of Volk's dolls. Their lips just look weird to me.

I tend to look for molds that range more on the side of "childlike". Not to say that they can't be sultry and sexy with a proper face up, but I find most of the girls I own have larger eyes, somewhat rounder cheeks/jaws, small lips and pert noses.
In general, less realistic in proportions but nicely balanced?

I love dolls that look like they have an attitude. I'm one of the few people (apparently) who sees a huge difference between Volks old FCS F-29 and new F-17, which is supposed to be almost the same. The new one is very definitely less smirky and less of an attitude, and I definitely don't like it as well.
Other dolls I really love for the same reason: Sweet Dream Nana, Dollshe Husky, and Bambicrony Elf Pepe. All of them are sculpted in such a way that they just look ticked off at the world. I also have a Volks Kohya that didn't look too annoyed in his original state but has been faceupped to look very cynical. I'm just nuts about him.

whaaa? my F-17 is full of smirk and way too much attitude xD; i've seen old F29s less smirky than him. the only difference i can see (well, not in person of course :sweat) is the head size... F-17 seems to be considerably smaller.
i think it's just the way ppl do the faceup that makes it more or less smirky.

The lips usually do it for me. I like the puffy well-shaped kind. Other than that, it's the body. Since I mostly like girl dolls, I've noticed that a lot of girl bodies are just horrible. Limwha human would have been the perfect doll for me, except for the yellowing thing. =|

It could be, but there's something about the F-17 head that's just slightly more delicate, more girlish looking or sly rather than just in your face smirk. That's my impression of them, anyway. I've seen them with similar faceups and to me the F-17 just doesn't look the same. I tried and tried to talk myself into liking F-17, because Volks has made it rather easy to get, whereas for an old F-29 you kind of have to beat the bushes and haunt Y!J for a longer period of time, but in the end it was F-29 or bust for me.

I find most of them too skinny and undefined. The arms and legs look like pathetic thin tubes coming off big hooters and hips of doom. Now I happen to like big hooters and hips of doom, but I'd like to see shapely arms and legs to go with them. When I saw Domuya fin with her prominent ribs, "Ick" popped right out of my mouth.
I like the SD16 girl legs. They are beautiful. I love the limhwa half elf as well. She had a glorious shape and were she not french resin, I'd probably have her as we speak.
I need to find a sexy body for my incoming lishe head and I was hoping for something other than a CP kicky one, but I can't find anything I like.

Hmm, for me, it tends to be the expression. Some just call out to me over others, I guess. It's odd, because sometimes an expression catches me even though I wasn't looking for anyone in particular.
As for a concrete feature, it's in the the lips and then eye shape.
I'm a sucker for pouty lips. ;)
I think it's more the overall look to me, and how well it fits the character I have in mind (which is why I have a lot of variety in my doll family). I admit, that I do have a thing about noses, I think big noses are cute.

Tough to say. There are several important factors....head shape (I tend to prefer more oval, long faces like El), nose and mouth are probably the top ones. I like full lips. If it's a girl I do like them a bit pouty. I typically don't like really "bow" shaped lips like many Volks dolls have. Just not my thing. I might forgive a nose that I don't quite like if it's something I can fix with sanding.

Nose! You may not beleive it, but the nose is a HUGE deciding factor for me. I'm a HUGE fan of angular noses, and the #1 nose for me is a strong classical roman nose. I LOVE them. This is why I love Jace as much as I do (And have plans to buy one >_>) as well as a mini hord of Dollshe... ;~;

For me it has a lot to do with oddly shaped breasts. I mean, if they don't have pornstar silicone shaped one's, they're just.. weird. Specifically, I mean the dollshe girl bodies. I know everyone has different likes/dislikes, but to me, the dollshe femme body is horrible. She has the grossest chest I've ever seen. @_@ I'm not fully satisfied with the Dollmore girl body, but I can live with it for now. =| It's like, the boys get all the detail and stuff and the girls are just basically shaped. It sucks. Hopefully more dolls like the Limwha come out.

Funny, I think the same thing about a lot of boy dolls too. The craze for ripped abs and exagerated pectoral muscles doesn't seem to carry to the arms and legs. The Dollstown 15 body is still the ultimate boy body for me. Everything perfectly balanced (stands to reason since it was modeled after Michaelangelo's David :p ). Hmm I'd have to say the over-all face. But I the first thing I look at is the nose and eye shape. It's the same as I look at first in real people. :) Also I'll have to feel a certain pull towards a doll, but that's to actually buy it and is a whole other topic. lol

For me I think it's just the overall effect. There's never really one feature that stands out to me when I'm browsing the doll sites. But the mouth tends to be a deal-breaker for me: Not too huge a fan of open mouths, so I usually get turned off by them even if I love the rest of the face.

I want my dolls to express something a bit different than "prettiness". Tiny Elfdoll Bong Sun Hwa was the first to reach out of that computer screen and grab my heart with that weird little gap-toothed smile...I hunted for one and bought her not realizing how small she actually is. I've had more fun with that tiny because of her strong personality than my bigger prettier ones El and Lishe).
I go for unusual beauty I suppose. Wendy Jr (Volks Shinsaya) has extreme anime cuteness and I love her for that reason. Kkotmu is on it's way here... I am thrilled to get a doll so unique, cute and sad at the same time.
One of my dream dolls is a Dollstown Seola...her face just fascinates me...that haunting sad waify character.
There are some Ultra Beautiful dolls that leave me cold. I probably will never desire the bjds that have a fashion doll look to them, but I enjoy seeing everyone's pictures of all their precious darlings, whether they are of my taste or not:heart.

I agree. I don't like most of the ripped ab look anyway. Do not get me on how awful I think hound and model doll bodies are. Heroin chic is not my idea of hot.
My Wu has the nicest proportion to my eye but everyone else thinks his legs are too chubby and short. I think he looks like a real, plush boy and that's totally what I wanted.

It's simply too hard for me to describe what I like, except there's a general pattern to it. Eyes of a certain shape. Think, I don't know... the Volks K.Mayura family and you have it. Cecile, F17, Tohya... I didn't even realise the trend until I started researching in depth on Volks sculptors / designers. I also tend to like them with a hint of a smile. Not smiley-smiley, just a hint. Slightly smiley and/or thick/pouty.

I need to line up all my dolls and try to figure out what they have in common! This is such an interesting question, especially because it's not one that I stop to think about in any conscious way when I choose a doll.
I suppose, thinking about my crew, that in general I prefer smaller faces--but overall head size isn't really a factor. And I seem to be drawn to faces that are broader across the mask/cheekbones, with narrower jaws/chins. I know I dislike pillowy Angelina Jolie lips, and mouths whose upper and lower lips aren't pretty close to the same thickness, but beyond that I have both wide and small mouths and love 'em both ways.
Eye shape, now . . . that's a good question. I know there's something I react to, but I can't put my finger on what it is. What do a CH Sia's and a Hypermaniac Omiclon's eyes have in common? ;)

For me it isn't so much the shape of any particular thing, it is how it all comes together to make an expressive face...I've gotta say, Soom Gena is one of my favorite dolls, because of her strong nose, and that smirk that is sculpted into her lips. I liked her so much that I sold a doll and recreated the character with the Gena because the aspects of her sculpt came together in a way that had much more character and wickedness than the other 'shell' had. So yeah, its more like a sum of its parts thing for me.
BUT...if I *had* to choose one thing that would have to be nice on a face, I'd say the lips--since I do faceups and mod work, I can change the other stuff, resculpt it. But the lips have to be just right.

Agreed on all points. I love my Elfdoll girl, but her arms and legs are just... :| It's why I don't get excited about most bodies, and why I'm willing to forgive some of the oddities proportionally of my SD16 girl. She's actually got elbows, kneecaps, and the most beautiful calves and ankles I've ever seen on a doll. Same feeling on the Limhwa girl, too. Fabulous sculpting-- not to mention some of the best proportions on a doll-- but I don't want to have to deal with French resin. :tantrum

So, so true. One of the big reasons I haven't gotten a CP girl is the breasts; they look artificial to me. And the poor, poor Dollshe girls... Mr. Dollshe has apparently never seen bare breasts before. *_*

Hi, similar tastes here. I'm always told by my counterpart dolly geeks that I have unusual taste, because I don't go for the usual pretty nor handsome. I tend to go for the sullen and moody or the impertinent defiant look, I've found. I only have tinies, and the most popular ones are too cute for my taste.
I'm waiting on a Kkotmu as well. :)

I'm very particular about eyes and mouths in a sculpt. I don't like eyes that look too large or "buggy"; there are always people who can make it work for their dolls, but I generally don't like it. I like eyes to have a pleasing shape, and I am also very partial to sleeping/dreaming heads even if I don't own one yet. I adore full lips, and am guilty of making my hara's a focus of my various photoshoots.
I think how I interpret the over all "personality" of a sculpt to be pretty important too. Like, if it looks bratty, pouty, happy, sad.... if the expression or personality works to my tastes, it can very much influence my opinion of the mold. :D

Hmm for me it has to be the face shape, that number one on my list. Next is the eyes (or maybe I should put that first...) I love looking into dolls eyes and seeing the character just jump out at me. When ever I look into eyes I see a part of the dolls character which is why I tend to stick to one foundation color (usually the manufacturers) rather than use like 10 different eye colors. For example Micah's (who sadly is still at Latidoll) eyes are usually some shade of Green, weather it be light or dark. It depends on his mood, but no matter how light or dark his eyes get you can always still see some green in them.

The whole appearance of the sculpt does it for me. The meeting of proportion, expression, and that intangible something of charm that is shown in it. They can be beautiful or not so handsome, the boldness and skill of the artist's work makes a fine statement with it.

xD I tend to like more mature looking girls. Boys... eh, I don't know. I like things to be proportioned right. Hands especially so it's an overall look for me. I gravitate towards girls. xD I think it's the curves.

I'm most attracted to child-like sculpts, so nothing too 'adult' looking (this goes for bodies too - I like the more flat-chested girl dolls, giant fake knockers are a huge turn-off).
Anyway, I think the first thing I notice is the mouth/lips. I like realistic mouths with lots of character. The eyes I like are large and anime-ish, but I don't like 'droopy' style eyes. And most of all I like dolls that seem to have 'souls'. It's hard for me to explain. Some dolls are really pretty but don't have any spunk. I guess I look for a mixture of innocence and character.

Eyes, lips and how well the face is balanced. There has to be a distinct attitude there that matches the character I have in mind. And if I don't have a character in mind, I just fall in love with the mold's potential. And if I find something about the mold that I don't like, I know I can change it. I can sand or paint or not take certain picture angles.
I once fell in love with a mold, I previously disliked! ^^; I had to search for all sorts of pictures of her and made a list of what I didn't like and what I did like. And then when I got her in the mail, I loved her instantly and kind of forgot about my dislike list. It was really weird.

I definitely have a preference to sculpts that can bring out the best in eyes. For me, it's not so much as the size of the eye cavity as it is the shape. Totally round eyes don't attract me, nor do molds with fully closed eyes.
I'm also more into tapered chins than wide ones; curved jawlines and cheeks as opposed to squarish and strong. It's no surprise I definitely prefer female-oriented sculpts. :sweat

I like head molds that I can see a personality behind. I also tend to prefer sad or pouty looking dolls, as well as cute molds over pretty ones. But ultimately, I guess it comes down to whether or not I can see a personality in the head mold.
Man, reading the rest of the thread showed me what a difficult question this really is!
I guess I gravitate toward hooded or narrowed eyes, broad mouths, and serious/morose/grouchy expressions. I like a sense of maturity and agelessness, too. But it's not like I have a checklist - some molds just holler "mine." It's not until I critically examine everyone at once to try to find common features that I can see a theme.
For me it's a gestalt. I sudden recognition of something that doesn't even have a name. I just feel a connection. If I think about it or look at the resin guys here I'd say it had something to do with a curious look, a natural eyesculpt or look, some have just beautiful hands and except for maybe 2 there are no rosebud lips.

I am drawn to faces that have at least a touch of mischief in them ... that or a certain daydream-like quality that I would be hard pressed to define. Most of the dolls I own have these qualities whether or not they have had "face-ups." Beyond that, presentation is extremely important.
There have been one or two dolls towards which I have not been drawn until I saw them in person, and I assume it's because their original presentation didn't draw me.

Joey, that's how I feel. I can't pin it on any certain feature or sculpt; my likes run the gamut from anime-styled Volks, to realistic tiny headed Dollshes.
When I look at a doll, I know it's meant for me if I look at it and can say that I can make this doll "mine". It's not about the features of a doll, but how "me" I can make it. :)

hmmm... First I look for the impact or the impression of the doll to me. When I see it for the first time it should have some great impact to me. Next is I observe and check the overall look by looking at the eyes first, nose, lips and face shape. then I look at the different angles. If it still have that impact to me the I'll say that I must have that doll. I don't have a specific how i should look like. More important to me is if I really like it or not... Just like what happen when I saw Ducan. he's the first doll I saw before I got in this hobby and after a year of saving I didn't change my mind and I still get him as my first BJD. ^_^

For me, they have to look like they belong to my doll "family." That is, pouty lips, a button nose, and usually a hint of teeth showing. This usually leads to me buying Volks dolls so that they "match," but I also have a Domuya Potpourri and a Unoa, who I think look similar to each other anyway.

I've found myself being attracted to the overall expression of the doll. I look to see if the doll shows personality particularly in the eyes and lips of the face. I also tend to go for the more mature looking dolls. For some reason, I find baby faced dolls adorable but I never feel compelled to own one.

Hmn... I'd say usually it comes down to the body sculpt, with me. I'm a sucker for interesting bodies. Both unusual and aesthetically pleasing ones tempt me, but I prefer they look somewhat doll-like. Too realistic with not enough joints showing and it actually tends to throw me off. And hands. I want my hands in good scale with my doll, not too tiny.
I also am big on eye sculpt, and mouths. :oops But in the end it's the bodies that really do it to me, and heads are just secondary. Well, mostly. There have been some heads that the "feel" of just really spoke to me. Like my Bada- she was just so utterly happy and nice looking!

What attracts me are sad pouty faces, I don't know why, but I tend to be drawn to grumpy stern looking guys! I also like nice hands the more realistic the better. The body mold has to pose very well, so I look at that
too.........;)
Evol resin :)
My dolls all tend to look either like they hate you or are planning evil. It's the look I am drawn to, scowls and sexy smirks. I also have a weakness for molds with visible teeth. It's one of the reason why Volks Michele is my ultimate dream doll. He's angry, bitchy, and has teeth!
As for bodies, I refuse to keep my boys on bodies that have low/hip joints. They're useless and ugly, which is why I love the Volks SD13 and Bluefairy boy bodies so much. They have cute hip bones.

All of my dolls have such a combination of features as to appear mostly sweet, I think. I like soft, thoughtful dolls. My dolls are a unique combination overall, with different features, so I can't figure if there is one specific element that unifies my girls and draws my eye initially. There's probably a connection between different elements of each specific mold that unifies the face to a place where I can see *that* spark in it.

Hmm, I must say that it's the face shape that draws my eyes first. I love looking at dolls with distinct Facial feature such as soft noses and sharp cheekbones. Secondly I look at eyes. I take into consideration the shape of the eyes and their colors to get a glimpse as to what their personality is like, After all eyes are the windows to the soul right? The last thing I look at is the Company Faceup. If no pictures are available of a bare head/body, I try to imanage what the face would look like bare...I always like trying to see what look would work with a doll~

Eyes and lips share equal weight. But the face is most important. Then the body is right after. Finally, poseability...and of course price is always a consideration; whether or not the price is a good value for the qualities. An awesome outfit would sway me if I were on the fence about purchasing.

Usually I fall in love with Limited Editions but it's the eyes first. Always the eyes. I love big pouty eyes. After that it's the wig the doll is wearing. I suppose that means it's how the total package looks. When I fell for my SD13 Volks Tsubasa it was his wig that I fell for I guess. I loved the entire package, but that wig made him look SO much like a boy I had dated for over two years in high school I just had to have him. With all the different wigs and eyes he can be a hundred different guys, but he will always be that one special person with that original wig.

XD I find a lot of molds attractive.
The faceup, presentation and photography make or break a doll for me. Eye choice, wigs, clothing, accesories... I suppose it's more of a complete look that draws me to a doll more than anything else.
If I'm looking to buy, almond-shaped and narrowed eyes that aren't too big are one of the biggest 'pulls' for me, then lips. I like a face that's angular, but has 'flesh' i.e not too thin or hollow-cheeked. Molds that are capable of mischievous/sultry looks also are ones that'll make me look twice.
As for bodies, especially girls... I think Unoas have one of the perfectest bodies out there. And the Twigling body has serious sex appeal, I still do want one! :) Luts girls are all curves, and DoT girls have very neat bodies. I hardly handle boys...

What attracts me to a mold are the eyes, then the lips, then the nose. I don't know why, but I love, love love eyes (I've stated in another thread that I am an eye whore, it's true!). I guess it may come from my own eyes, which I like a lot (and which change colors depending on my mood), and in general, my love of people eyes. Milla Jovovich has the most awesome eyes in the world, IMO. I love looking at them. hehe
The next thing that attracts me is the faceup. I can see the same doll with a zillion faceups and only one or two will actually be "it" for me. Though, it does seem, for me at least, that universally, I love all the SD10 4 sisters. hehehehe
Overall i tend to favor pouty, sad or sulky dolls, but i just got a Reisner guy who's not such a downer. Don't really have an eye or nose or lip qualification, i just have to respond to the face as a whole.

Hm. I don't think i have any very specific things that really draw me to a mold. I like dolls that have something a little bit different or awkward about them, i think. I also like boys that look like boys, unmistakeably. I love Namu so much because he's got a big nose and big lips, which are kind of awkward features, but they're sculpted in a very artistic way. It's hard for me to explain. Like he could be a real person who'd worry that his nose was too big but his girlfriend would be all like "don't worry honey, it's cute!", instead of feeling like it was sculpted that way on purpose.
I love the f-04 because she looks sweet and mysterious, and is really close to being an anime styled head but something about her looks just a little bit more subtle than say, nono or mimi. And i like she's got a very slight smile.
As for unoa's, i love the unoa body because it's like mine. Flat chest, thick thighs.
I don't like my dolls to look too flawless. Like, i think Lishe, for example, is a beautiful doll. But i don't relate well to her because she's flawless like a model. She could be a great model, or elfen princess or something like that. But my dolls are all average people so dolls that look like that don't fit my idea of my dolls.
It's hard for me to define, but i have this idea of my dolls as normal people, people who i could meet or maybe be friends with if they were real people. They're not fantasy charachters or anything, so i like dolls that reflect that "normalcy".
Tsuminaki
09-23-2007, 08:37 AM
I've said it before, but ethnic ambiguity ^^ I don't like my dolls to be tied down, in that sense. I like an open-facedness, wide scope of potential...they should also be pretty. I appreciate the 'beauty of the grotesque' thing, but that's never engaged me with a bjd yet, it stays in other media. I like nicely formed, smooth, soft details and curves in the face, without too much exaggeration, and some gender cues, but not too overbearing. I don't really like mannish girls, etc. Elegance of features is actually a big part of a mold's appeal in general - I'm not into the snubnose aesthetic - I suppose why I never got into porcelain dolls, baby dolls and the like, and the bjds similar looking to those.
Above all else, they fit in with the Tsuminaki schema in my head. They're the kind of faces I drew when I was younger. They would fit in with my stories, though they are not necessarily modeled after any pre-existing characters. I guess most artists would like to have 3-d representations of what their particular drawings look like, yeah?
I'm not saying my art is perfectly smoothly executed, mind you :P just similar features.

I tend to look for a mold that is "quirky." Often I like dolls that others think are ugly, or just don't find appealing, but I think that flaws and less-than-beautiful features can really add character to a doll. On the other hand, I often become bored or uninterested in molds that are too symetrical or that I find too "beautiful."

I don't know what exactly attracts me, maybethe sape of the eyes and the mouth at first sight. The size is a big factor too the minis are my fav but latey like a lot the big big ones.
I prefer molds which look slightly sad and melancholy. I really like the slightly parted lips that a lot of molds have (narae's have the most lovely lips!). I like quite boyish looking female molds too, like School A girls (one of the reasons I like my MSD Maria so much :) )
All my dolls are very different from each other, so it's hard for me to pin down a "type" or feature that makes me want them. I kind of thought that I am attracted to beautiful, expressive eyes, but I recently bought one that has squinty, mean little eyes, and I adore her, so it can't be that either. They just appeal to me in their own way. Perhaps they remind me of people I loved in a past lifetime; I have no clue. Most of my dolls aren't pretty in the usual sense and some of their molds I have even heard described as ugly, but I find their faces interesting.

Lips, lips, lips...I love painting lips, so my favorite sculpts usually have full, nicely shaped lips. (It's not for no reason I end up painting so many Lishe's I think...)
I also am drawn to certain expressions. Husky, N-doll Miru, IM Hound, Supia 60 to name a few.

That's an interesting question, and one I hadn't really considered specificially. I tend to be drawn to "quirky-looking" dolls. Elf ears, dragon ears, interestingly shaped eyes. As I look around I see that the vast majority of my dolls have long faces and pointy noses, and the ones that get the least attention from me (aside from angsting over why they don't seem quite "right") are the rounder-faced dolls with "normal" looking features.
I tend not to go for dolls whose heads are huge in proportion to their bodies, but that's not hard and fast, either...

Probably expression is most of it, for me. I don't like dolls that are very frowny or blank-faced. Even with a good face-up, it's hard to hide things like that. Eyeshape and mouth have a lot to do with it too, and I often like a doll with a 'unique' look, but not too over the top so that some feature is distorted.

I prefere smaller eyes, but large eyes won't completely turn me off a sculpt.
I don't have any huge particulars that I really need in a sculpt, I mostly go for the overall look of the doll and if I can see a character in them. I do like really detailed hands, which is partly why I don't like kid dolls, they have short, ugly hands. :dead
Or, sometimes, it'd love at first sight. Like with my first. :blush

I don't know if it's a certain physical feature that I find attractive. I like dolls that are versatile, and could pull off many styles and such. I also have to like the body, skin color, and size. I don't usually love 70cm+ dolls (Well, my Hound is an exception) or 24cm- dolls.

I seem to like smirky or serene looking boys the most, I don't really care for the mournful look seen on most of the Dollshe and Dollmore boys.
Its hard to put into words what attracts me to a certain sculpt, since my tastes are somewhat varied and I like/want dolls that are in different "styles". The face does have to have some sort of expression, I don't like blank faced dolls. I do like at least one doll from just about every 60cm manufacturer there is. Of course, there are some molds that I really like but can't see myself owning such as Woosoo, Moon, and Lahoo.

I like variety. I like having different sizes, different skintones, boys and girls. I'm also drawn to quirky. I like molds that have something unique about them. I love different expressions, and faces with character. And I'm another one that is often drawn to sculpts that other people find unattractive. Conversely, I don't necessarily find myself drawn to some of the very popular sculpts. I prefer more angular and mature faces to soft and rounded ones, I think that's one of the reasons I'm generally not drawn to Volks.
Elf ears and vampire teeth are a big weakness of mine. Just purely going on facial structure, I seem drawn to kissable lips and bold noses on guys. Dollshe Bernard is one of my all-time favorite boys, and I've got a Soom Corvi on the way. :XD

With the exception of height (I would never buy anything smaller than 60cm) there's nothing specific that I look for in my dolls - they just have to have a look that sticks in my mind long after I've looked at pics of them. I love the beauty white skintone, but it's not an absolute must.

I find I like more realistic looks in my SD sized dolls, and more cutesy looks in the smaller dolls. I love really cute in the tinies and especially love them to have elf ears!
All I can really say is that I know I love it when I see it and it doesn't take me long to decide. I am not at all drawn to anime type, big eyed dolls but many people love them. That's why it's so wonderful to see so many different sculpts, and so many different faceups on them.

Placid expressions seem to really do it for me...I own a Soo, who has that peaceful, dopey smile that just makes me feel calm and happy every time I see her. I'm a sucker for those little teeth too...and big doe eyes. Honestly, she's my ideal doll and if I could have about 50 of them all painted up differently, I would. But I also have a kid Delf An, who has a very peaceful expression as well. My DZ Nina is very relaxed and happy looking. My other two...well...they're different from that, but they don't get quite as much love from me as my sweet, calm dolls do.

Haha... I think for me, it boils down to the same reason I become attracted to any guy I've dated... For me? I'm BIG on noses. Something about a cute nose is the first thing that jumps out to me on molds... That, and profiles. The last things that hit me are eyes, because it's usually pretty much the same for all dolls.
My first love was a SOOM Romantic Dillui -- she's got such a cute little upturned nose and looks like a spoiled little princess who demands to be worshiped.

I don't think I can say it's just one or two features that attracts me but the overall look. I definitely tend to like the "cute" look more than the sophysticated look even in my 60cm dolls. For the big boys, I like them to look like boys or men, really. For the smaller ones its not as important. Noses are important to me and overall proper proportions though I do like big eyes, thus making the dolls look younger. I also love Asian looking scupts though I find way too few of those.

I look at faces first. I like faces with a touch of anime, but it can go over the top. Ski jump noses and huge eyes are just too much. I can find resonance in a realistic face sculpt (Narae for example) but I'm not moved to own them.
Sad, dolls are not for me. Either neutral or a touch of cheer is what I prefer. Spacey faces also - I like dolls who look focussed.
I like small dolls but not so much the ones who are cute babies or small kids.
They need to have personality and independence. Domuya Potpourri, Bambicrony Pepe, Domadoll Jado is what I mean.
Interesting or nice body sculpts are a plus. Ungainly joints can be a minus. I don't much like the "underpants" joint, though Jado has one and it doesn't detract from her in my opinion.
Underdefined hands and feet is a pity. My smallest doll - a Banji - does not have this problem though the size does have other limitations (note to self: must buy pipecleaners for her joints!)
Full-set dolls are not for me. I don't want a keep-on-a-shelf doll - I want to feel free to change him or her look when the mood takes me rather than feeling he or she ought to be left pristine. Mind you, I have a couple of came-with-the-doll face-ups to wipe and redo this summer, and I'm a bit squeamish about even doing that. :)

Like a lot of people who've responded already, I'm attracted to dolls who have substantial, pointy or otherwise prominent noses. I'll also admit to a preference for dolls with wider mouths and stronger features - I love the sharp jawlines of Olivia, Cristal and Shiro Amakusa and the quirky, almost smirk of Olivia and Reisner.
That doesn't mean that I don't are for the sweeter faced dolls. I'm absolutely love the Ken/Mika, Ttori, Bambicrony Kumi sculpts as well.
I have a pretty varied doll family, but I think some of my favorites are those with beautiful or handsome, but unpretty sculpts. If a resin face can be expressive, it's going to capture my attention and my imagination very quickly, then hold it.
In terms of bodies, for me, it's pretty much all about the legs. When the doll has a sexy, well shaped leg with the look of toned muscle, I'll find him/her irresistable. If it can stand and pose solidly, I'm completely sunk.

Early on it was all about the face, the body sculpt was secondary. As my knowledge developed I learned to appreciate the body to a much larger degree.
In addition to the face, the head and how the face sits on the cranium is important. I had one lovely doll but I didn't like her side view,-there was something odd about her cheek /ear area, so let her go.
Hands are important as well. I love beautiful sculpted hands, dislike the short chubby ones.

I like expressive looking dolls. That's what makes them seem lifelike to me. I notice people talking about 'realistic' looking dolls a lot lately, though it's the more expressive looking ones I'm drawn to and they're often less 'realistic' looking. I can explain what I mean best by using claymation as an example - it's quite a challenge to make a piece of clay come to life, but when it does there's something very magical about it. That's what draws me to certain dolls. I don't like bland looking dolls. I like flaws and oddness, they give a thing even more expression. Now bjds are becoming increasingly popular I think some are becoming more like action figures and I find those dolls a bit generic looking. I love the robot girl Batchix made recently though. I think she looks very expressive and lifelike. I like most artists' bjds which have been hand-made. Those are the ones I tend to want most of all.
I like big noses, full lips and sticking out ears .. hehehe that describes my husband!!

Over all look or aura.
I want a BJD who can express a certain ideal of beauty who isn't just for now or just a trend. S/he has to be able to adapt and can change.
So I'm not for extreme features or such. I'm classic and for timeless looks.
Oddly enough, I think I'm stuck in the Renaissance though. I tend to go for the round cherub/youthful/big eyes and androgynous/beautiful strange looks.
-cough Michael and possibly someone who might be coming home in a while-
Those two images are the sorts I tend to really like a lot.
Like they were pulled out from a Boticelli painting.

I think I tend to like thick lips, and sculpts that are not angry or stern looking by nature, or overly sexual or seductive looking, because I think the personality of the doll should not clash with the sculpt, like the doll should be completely is a creation of the owner so I think that dolls with particular expressions are not the blank palette that others are, they already have a layer of personality that can't be changed without serious work....
of course all of that babbling was just IMHO of course
and without the above, I am almost sheepish to admit,
I tend to like fairly effeminate boys and fairly masculine girls...
and hands, really well sculpted hands really stun me silly :)

For girl molds eyes and lips seem to be the two big things that attract me to a doll. I like sleepy-looking eyes and soft, full-looking lips. Hands are another big thing for me, for both boy and girl dolls. Hands that just look like a rubber glove filled with water irritate me, but nicely sculpted hands like on unoas are great.

I love sharp, angular facial features. Not only they're more photogenic this way, they also look extra striking in person. Also, the pointier and the more defined the nose gets, the more I love the face mold XD.

Hands and body are a big one for me. I fell in absolute love with the Delf bodies. Their hands are gorgeous, and the new senior delf bodies make me quiver. (Yeah, it's a doll...)
When it comes to faces, it has to click for me. There is just something about the mold that hits those particular centers of the brain that produce pleasure endorphins. It's difficult to put that any other way.
I'm more attracted to male features than female, though there are a few female molds I like. Delf Soony and Elfdoll Soah to name a few. I've noticed though, with the right faceup and attitude...any doll can be appealing.

I'm with others here who have said it's ALL about the eyes. I very seldom like molds with droopy eyes and dreaming heads are right out for me. If the eyes on a head are right then I look at the expression next. It's weird to me that there can be beautiful faces that just seem to lack...something. Pretty isn't enough for me. I need a hint of character or spirit to the sculpt. Maybe it's a coincidence but several of my favorite sculpts also have open mouths. Finally, while I admire male sculpts like Sabik, Kyle Reese, and some of the Lati boys, I just don't want boys around. Girl bodies have become more important to me over time as well. I don't want hyper-developed boobacious girls. I like the young-teen, smaller breasted girls. Narae has my favorite body but I curse her french resin so she's out.

While I take the doll's whole face into consideration, it's usually the eyes that do it for me- especially Lati yellow and green Coco eyes!

Looking at the kids around me, I think it's mostly the nose and mouth that get to me first, and then I'll look at the eyes. I'm a sucker for a doll with a big wonky nose (especially if it's pointy, but that's not a dealbreaker), and I'll admit to a weakness for big wonky lips as well--hence my Tony and School A fixations. Would also love an MSD F-10 because the mouth is just adorable to me.
I prefer half-closed eyes. The wide-round-eyed look doesn't do it for me (Yuki's the except to the rule), but actual sleep-eyed dolls are just awkward for me to pose and photograph so I don't tend to seek them out either.
Overall I guess I like sculpts that look more human than doll-like; with the exception of Kohaku (my first doll), none of my crew really fits the anime-style "huge eyes tiny nose and mouth" type. They've got more personality if they look a little weird. :p

It's the expression the doll has. I like sad dolls with eye shapes that are 'piercing'. :)
It's three things for me.
First the profile of the head (especially the nose!). I'm a sucker for noses like those of elfdoll K and volks Cristal. And I wanted my gomidoll Iru because of his profile ánd his cute little nose.
second: the lips. When they feel 'natural' I'm in, even more when the mouth is a little open, just like my Lishe and once again, my Iru. So no ";<" -looking lips for me, school A will not be mine I fear.
And third: Strong facial expression! Mostly it's the grumpy/melancholy molds that catch my mind, but a well done slightly cheerful face is also welcome. I don't like neutral molds, they have to have their own 'emotion' and the eyes have to 'pierce'.

Im always attracted to different molds for different reasons. For instance, with my Camine, I liked the way he looked so dippy and happy. With my MigiDoll Ryu, it was his charmingly large nose :)
Basically, the right combination of features catches my eye and then i have to have that head. I have alot of heads becuase of that though.....

I have to see some emotion in the face, an attitude, and it has to look like a doll to me. For a while I was liking dolls that looked more human, but realized I tire of them. Glad I figured it out without buying too many...

Though I was first attracted to these dolls because they looked like Anime characters I find that the molds I'm attracted to enough to buy are the more unusual, realistic and/or expressive dolls. I love lips, especially pouty lips. But I will also find dolls with smirks or sad expressions also attractive. The feature that can become a deal breaker for me is a pointy nose. Some of these dolls have such pointy thin noses that even a little sanding won't help. I like realistic noses like Unidoll's Jace. His is my favorite out of all my dolls.

Most of the time when I look at a headmold and feel I want it very badly, it's usually because it resembles a character I've drawn out and characterized already. For example, I know Morgan is going to be a FCS F-09 girl with an SD13 body and the SD10 arms and legs. Sascha is going to be a modded Sweet Dreams School Head A SD13 boy, and Valentine is going to be a modded Syo standard. It's fairly clear who is who, in my head.
(Not to sound like a Volks snob or anything, but these are all supposed to be kids attending school, so I prefer the more "childish" Volks body sculpts.)
Sometimes it happens strangely, though. I didn't think I'd be buying a standard Elena for Tomoe, but the "duck lips" and charming eyes pretty much won me over. The doll looked nothing like what I'd already determined she would look like, but it fitted so well I revised her appearance to match it.
In the end I redid the faceup, and she looks pretty much mostly like she should now, absent some mods (adding epicanthic folds on eyelids, a smidge of eye-closing, cheeks sanded down a bit). She is my first BJD, so it'll be a little while before I start doing insane mods, but I pretty much have the future mapped out for her.

Mostly mouth shapes, lip shapes attract me. I don't like smiling mouths, I like full lips and I quite like the corners to be turned down, though not always. To have a house full of miserable dolls would be interesting.... but I like a variety of expressions. I think if I lived in a house full of smiling dolls it'd make me feel very crazy after a very short time. I couldn't do it!

It's usually the face mold that gets me first. I like my dolls the way I like my art - realistic, with just the right amount of anime, which is why I'm so fond of the DoD dolls. I don't want to have to change a faceup, so it's often a determining factor. I also like neutral expressions with lips (since I'd never sand down my dolly), unless I find the perfect expression for a certain character (like with BF's Niky - PERFECT LUCIFER).

Definitely the faces. I like enough eyelid to do something with, and full lips. For some reason though I am endlessly attracted to Four Sisters. I don't have any idea why I don't have one yet. Bizarre. There is just something about that expression, it's like the Mona Lisa;)

I like the dolls that look like men, not boys who could be girls. Smirks are also good.
Alas, I have no men and am drooling over Feanor, Spinel, Elfdoll's Standard K, and the impossible-to-ever-own Yukinojo.
I'm also finding the "closed-eyed" dolls appealing for the surprising amount of expression they can have, given the head tilt and arm positions.

It really depends on what I'm going for...I'm looking for dolls for some of my characters, really. But as a whole, I tend to be attracted to more mature, "arrogant" looking dolls. I've recently fallen in love with the DoT Tender E-an...and the 70cm DZ Yuu.

I like a variety of things...otherworldly beauty is good. I suppose Anais is the doll that really knocks my socks off. And the F-16 head-sculpt...I think those dolls were originally designed by Kyon, and I believe she is my favourite Volks artist.
But there are so many terrific dolls out there. It's almost easier to say what I *don't* like.
I think, like dollseye, if they were all sitting there grinning at me, that would give me the pip.
And I don't like teeth much.

It's something I cannot really express in words, but when it happens, it's undeniable. A flattering faceup and presentation definitely helps, but without a good mold to begin with, those fluffy things don't hold much importance. There have been times I've liked a mold despite the unflattering default faceup, photographs, etc.
If I really like the mold enough to pursue, I go through what I'd describe as a calm panic while I figure out how I could posess this beautiful thing.

Lips, nose, eyes, jawline and forehead. They all have to come together just right. The body has to pose well. I like split torsos, but they have to be split in the middle. I know the lower joint is more aesthetically pleasing, but I can't stand how they don't pose well. For boys, they must have a nice package and not be circumcised. For girls, the breasts must hang nicely, have nipples, and have a good shape. Hands and feet are another bonus. I am picky.

The whole expression of a doll is what will make me like him/her. The eye shape is very important, and also the lips. The make-up also makes a big impact on me. If I see a bad face-up, it might put me off.
With the one I'm getting now, the mouth and the lips made me fall in love with him and the face shape was too gorgeous NOT to fall in love with. :nod
Generally, the doll has to have an expression that will speak to me. Maybe if the doll looks too sad I won't like it. It really depends.

It's very subjective for me. I like a face that looks like someone I could walk up and talk to. I'm pretty shy in real life so that usually means a friendly or shy face. I do not like molds that look stuck-up or mean (though impishly evil is fine - like Elfdoll Dodo).
As far as features go, it's a combination of the eye, mouth, and nose shapes. I don't care for overly large eyes (except in tinies) and I prefer eyes that do not droop at the outer corners. I like there to be some eyelid. I like a nicely proportioned nose that is not thicker between the eyes. I love lips that are adorable from the front and profile. I particularly like faces that are good at displaying a range of emotions by changing the angle of the head relative to the camera.

Eyes more than anything. I had one doll who had very huge O_O eye wells and I had to sell him. Now I'm completely obsessed with dreaming eyes.

I think it's the overall expression that is the deciding factor for me. I don't particularly like dolls with frown-y/sad/typical-blank-stare-at-the-camera-like-I'm-a-hot-model expression haha. There are exceptions though. ^^ I also like dolls with open eyes, because I love seeing their beautiful eyes. But.. not so open like Amet mentioned. XD

Lips and eyes, for me. Though I don't have a particular "style" I go for. My doll family is a bit eclectic, with various aesthetics... but I know it's the lips that grab me first, followed by the eyes. I like dolls that have a sense of expression, of conveying some type of emotion. My Juri06 has a snarky (almost pervy) smirk, while the MNF Shiwoos have sweet but mischievous smiles. I love the Domuya Fin lips, which are softer and more serious. It just seems like the lips on some sculpts just grab me. ^_^

I love big lips like some people love big butts. It makes or breaks my decisions. My second check is how sharp or soft the features are. I like strong jawlines and cheek bones (except on my girls. But I don't collect girls anymore) but they can't be severe or sharp.

There are a few factors for me that really seem to push me from going 'ooh pretty' to 'oh...now that I want."
Overall expression....I'm not a fan of dolls with a very set, dramatic expression. I think they're lovely, but I would never want to own one. I don't know if I can explain why very well; they seem limiting, somehow. Subtle expression is more my style.
Eyes are another thing for me. I seem to be less concerned with size, more with how well it seems to "fit" the face. Again, not so sure I'm explaining that very well.
I'm also picky about bodies. Really narrow shoulders on boys bothers me. Thick wrists on lanky bodies bothers me. Female torsos that are too narrow(as in there couldn't possibly be a ribcage under there) bother me...but that I blame on taking a bunch of life drawing and anatomy classes. It sets something off for me, my personal aesthetic. I like dolls that look like they just might be real, hold some potential for being a real person.

I like dolls which seemed to be smirking >< Or either frowning.....
the eye shape is also important~
I usually go for the smaller eye ones....cause big eyes freak me out x.x
As for the lips i like pouty kinds XD
I don't really fancy the thick kind cause it looks.....weird on a doll
Also the body....I prefer bodies which are not too muscular or too busty x.x
I prefer something more normal....cause i find that some doll companies love to scuplt their bodies too muscular till it looks unrealistic

It's depends. ^_^ Sometimes I like the more manly and rugged looking boys and sassy girls, sometimes I like the feminin boys and sweet looking girls. Though generally this is what attracts me to any mold:
- Non-droopy, well-shaped eyes
- Non-pouty, small lips in a small smile or neutral position
- Smooth and sleek shape (for head and body)
- Can fit as a character of mine is a bonus
- Is it cute/hawt XD
So yeah, that's just generally and can apply to any mold. ^^;

usually when i i am shopping for dolls i am looking for whether or not they remind me of a certain character i have.but i do find i am more attracted to certain molds then others. i find that molds that seem to combine asian and caucasian features are really pretty, if that makes sense.
i like the lips to be more full, and for the eyes to be a little more asian like some of the elfdolls and DOD dolls. but i also really like dolls that are more realistic looking like Narae's and Supia's. i don't like to much stylizing of the face, or for it to be "animeish."
guess i am kind of specific O_O

I think it is the "whole" head. I have to LOVE every part of it or else the parts i don't love will pick at me and drive me crazy!
Good pictures also sell me on a doll i allready like alot. as strange as it sounds; there was a picture of 2 unoa lusis on a website (can't remember where now) and they looked so real and like the olsen twins and that picture alone has made me miserable for one.
Very specific things for me. With girls I don't like big noses, and I'm attracted to sweet and sultry expressions. I love the almond eye shape and don't usually care for rounded eyes.
With boys I often prefer big noses, sharp features. I don't care for strong square jaws, or very rounded noses.
I dislike noses that are too small (tiny bridge, no nostrils) or very undefined in sculpt.
I try to look at the sculpt if I don't care for a doll at first glance, because I always feel even iffy molds have potential with some modding/different faceup :)

Apparently I go for dolls with smallish heads lol I like the ones that can look tender yet like they can take care of themselves at the same time^^ The eye shape is important too. When I finally decided on my first two dolls, I was much more picky about the type of body the doll would have than I would have prevoiusly thought. I was surprised how important that became to me. I thought that a certain look for the head would be my biggest concern. I like the more mature body-types personally, so I went for the SDFs.
I can't resist a pouty face for a boy or girl. Some puppy-dog eyes and full lips and softly-blushed cheeks is all I need. I love the dramatic looks of other dolls, but it doesn't really suit me for the dolls I want to live with.

I love smiling dolls, and pouty dolls. xD
trying to be more specific.. hmm
i like dolls that could look good either way.
so not really hard core masculine or feminine ?
faces that are very neutral and could either be pissed or happy..
evil.. nice.. cute...ugly? o-o well okay ugly is a bit hard to do...
I like big eyes.. where i can actually see them..
not like dreaming.. but just regular open eyes..
umm
i have to like everything about the doll thought.
If theres something i dont like about it.. no can do.
eyes, shape of the face, nose, ears, lips..
the way the head looks on the neck.
the way the light creates shadows on the face.
I always liked volks f-22.. but i hated the way in some pics
the light made weird shadows around her lips... D;
made her look like an old lady to me..
Mm i guess.. overall its deff. a case-by-case kinda thing.. what attracts me to a doll.
I have different tastes.

Facial expression is what really does it for me. Some dolls tend to look kind of vacant, and I don't like that. I really don't care for girl dolls with that sort of sweetly-distant expression they tend to have (that's why I've gone through a bunch of boy heads on girl bodies). I love my Yisol for her serious face and my Sist for her little smirk.
I can actually deal better with the sweet look on boy dolls, but the one boy doll I had didn't stay long...

I love a gorgeous, prominent nose! And, well defined lips.
When I first got into this hobby, I wanted a CH Gene. But, after two years of collecting BJDs, I would probably not buy him because his nose and lips do not have the realistic definition that Im so attracted to, now. My tastes have changed, and I do prefer the more realistic sculpts.
The one thing that has not changed is that I love moody boys! The expression has to be there. That is why I fell head-over-heels inlove with Elfdoll K. That boy is down right cranky! (*sigh*) And he has an amazing nose!

I joke with my friends, that I'm a sucker for a squinter. "The more myopic the doll, the better!"
I really dislike very large eyes, generally speaking, so if a doll's eyes are squinty, "dreaming" or "sa", I'll usually sit up and pay attention. I also like smiles and frowns -- mouths that aren't set in neutral. For men, I really love masculinity, which is why I keep staring at Unidoll Jace like a crazy person. For women, I love confidence.
And that's what I'd say attracts me to a sculpt, if I were to boil it down and remove complexity.

I prefer my dolls to be more realistic - so a good eye shape is important.
Lovely lips are also - and for some reason sad looks don't tend to stay

I like good collarbones as well, if I can get them!

What attracts me to a doll mold?? I guess it really comes down to the eyes. With my Woori it is the sweet innocent expression, with my newer mold Sia she also has an innocent look to her. Most of my dolls that i currently own have larger eyes but i also own one that is a dreaming mold. I think of it as a love at 1st sight thing. With my AF Koli, the 1st picture i saw of her scared me. Her eyes were creepy looking to me, but then i saw another picture of her with a different look and fell in love with her and knew i had to have her. She has become my favorite little one.
I think the potential I see in a mold is what attracts me to it. If//when I set out to find a particular doll//character, usually I'll have a basic idea of what look I'd want for it i.e. wide eyes + slight frown, so I'll look for dolls with that kind of potential in the sculpt even if it's not exactly what I had in mind.
What settles me on a sculpt is how much I think I can use it to my advantage, not what it's showing me in product pictures. Endless possibilities are always attractive ^^
For me the dolls that stand out in a sea of beautiful dolls are the ones that are "unique." To me that means they aren't just beautiful maybe that have a small quirk to them like dimples or or something about their face that is slightly overlarge like their mouth or nose-gives the face a bit of character if that makes sense, otherwise they are just too perfect ;)

For me, it is the whole face. If something is off then I'm not attracted to it. Noses are important. I like narrow noses but not pointed, like Lishe's. So I modded her and gave her a new, more pleasant, less pointed nose. I'm not one to fall for faces that are sad or gloomy looking, nor ones that are smiley and excited. I like pleased relaxed faces. Lips with a slight part are super sexy. I don't own any dolls with teeth peeking out, but I think I may like it a lot.
For the body, I like when body parts are proportional. I can't stand how wide shoulders look on some dolls when the hips and ribcage are too thin. I'm attracted to smooth lines, not jagged, and more muscular than slim, both on Male and female dolls. I like SD size and bigger, so size does matter.

I usually fall for the more realistic looking dolls. I like for them to have realistic proportions, and I especially love the mature, manly looking dolls. Soom Spinel is to me perfection; a long lean body, well defined faceshape, pouty lips and realistic nose- plus his eyes are the right size and shape. I rarely fall for smiling dolls unless it is an impish smirk, for some reason I like the ones that look slightly grumpy, worried or sad. To me it gives them more attitude and personality, so I "communicate" better with them. I think it's a combination of realism, overall appearance, expression and facial features- eyes are essential though. I love the eyes of the new Soom boys Spinel, Rex and Lupin. :heart

I'm one of those people who agonizes over every detail before I decide to buy a doll. I guess I'm just a picky person ^_^ I love most dolls, and I love taking pictures of dolls, but when it comes to owning them, thats where I get specific. I have to save up for quite a while to get one, so I want to ensure He/She is perfect :kisses
The first thing I look at is Face. Are the eyes expressive? Are they too Big/small for the sculpt? there are so many dolls I have loved, except for the fact they have HUGE and spaced out looking eyes! the next thing is nose and lips. I love the more realistic and mature dolls so I like a well defined nose, rather than and a small and undefined one. with lips I look for slightly smiling if possible. I love expressive dolls so the lips have a big pull. the biggest thing though, is uniqueness. I want a sculpt that when I finish it, it will be unique and beautiful. and though I like certain face types, I am always drawn to the ones with slight imperfections. (for example, the buddydoll April's kissy lips, and the IH Soo Ri's Lazy eye)
The deciding factor once I like the face sculpt is the body. I looks for a body thats super posable, and looks realistic. I want to be sure that the head isn't too big for the body and that the body as a whole is proportionate. I am a sucker for dolls with major jointing. I love three part torsos and double knee and arm joints and mobility leg joints, so I tend to gravitate towards them. My dolls will be posed a great deal and I like them to look natural. The last thing would be hands/feet. I LOVE well defined hands and feet. (Dollshe hands own my soul!) I look for hands that are the proper size for the doll. I have so many dolls in mind I would love to buy that are perfect, EXCEPT for the fact the hands are tiny and undefined, Or Huge and looks like giant Claws!
Just my $0.02! :blush

this is actually kind of thought provoking...
first, the body doesn't really matter to me since the doll will probably be wearing clothes :P, and i only am really attracted to male (or what i'd see as a masculine) head mold. a number of factors are involved, but i have to agree with others who've said that expression is what grabs them first.
i tend to be drawn to a what i perceive as a mischevious expression, some thing that hints at not necessarily a darker side, but something that says, i can cause a bit of trouble when no one's looking.
i also tend to like a softer expression that speaks of a quieter, stoic character.
after expression i consider the features- are they in harmony with one another, the size of the head itself? i tend to shy away from features that are harsh, too realistic, or too masculine. i prefer softer features.
shape of the lips can also be a deal-breaker, if you will. i really don't like a head mold if the lips are flat, or too small, or too pursed.

It's hard to say, some I like the eyes, some the mouth shape, and some the sculpt of their hands (like Unoas).

I guess I'm more like "I have a specific character in mind" - and if a doll fits my (mental) image of that character, then I'll lust for it until I have it. So far I've only got one doll (cursed RL expenses!) but I know the next four dolls quite well.
I like noses that are visible, I want nostrils to be present (not just two dents but proper nostrils) And while I don't like the closed/dreaming molds too much, I also don't like huge big alien eyes all that much. The shape of the eyes is important, too. Some molds have weird, droopy under lids.
Lips... As long as they're not overly pouty I'm not particular to any shape.
I also prefer dolls to look like they're above an age where it wouldn't be illegal to take them outside without clothes.

a Dolls facial expression really does it for me...the "Deer in the headlights" look to a face really turns me off to certain dolls ^^; or expressionless faces...as they have no base personality.

In a head I think, for me, eyes are first and foremost. The more realistic, the better. I don't like them too big and I prefer a sultry look. Lips come next. I like slightly parted lips more than anything. Finally, the actual shape of the head. I like more masculine, especially if it's the look I'm going for.
In the actual body, I like decidedly masculine bodies. I'm not overly fond of the androgynous look unless, again, it's what I'm going for.
As a semi-random aside, I've never found myself attracted to a female sculpt. It could be that I just haven't seen enough or it could be that I just have an aversion to them. They just aren't human enough for me, I suppose. >.<;

For me, I think it depends on the look I want, realistic or otherwise. Either way, the eyes and the nose are what I will fall in love with.
If I want a childish, young looking doll, then I seem to be drawn to big eyes and small noses. On realistic dolls, though, too large of eyes are a turn off, and I really like the dreaming eyes. On realistic dolls, I also like strong noses, not tiny smudges.
But just because a doll has the perfect features, doesn't necessarily mean I will buy it. They have to have that intangible aura about them to convince me to pay money for them. That special something that tells me I won't be able to live without them.:)

An ambiguous but expressive face. As in, the mold definitely has expression but it looks happy from some angles, sad from others, etc.
I prefer molds that are somewhere in the middle of stylized and realistic. F16 is my eternal "median" sculpt - any other sculpt that I purchase cannot be much more stylized or more realistic than F16, and must look good next to F16. ^_^

I tend to like more realistic dolls than anything, as well as more mature looking ones. Good, expressive eyes are another biggie. <3 Also, I feel a little at odds with some boy doll collectors in the fact that I like my boys to look fairly manly, rather than girly. :3
I think that I look for...small mouths, large eyes that are not too far apart (yet I have a Tender Too I love), cute noses, and attitude. It's mostly the attitude I look for in how they look when painted. I know it's easy to manipulate a doll's expression with how you paint it, but a good attitude comes across even when not painted. At the same time, I don't like molds that can only be one expression. It's like how my Dana is not thrilled while my godmother's Dana is sexy pouting. So, I also like versatile molds.

Ditto... I like the same bunch, besides that damn cute irresistable smirk, I'm a sucker for pointy chins and noses. Either really big eyes or squinty...
My love extends beyond Volks dolls. The original AR Kai fan!
The best bodies are the SD13 and SD10, not into the buff and barbie trend at all!

I love serene eyes, and an interesting nose. I'm also a bit of a face-up person. I need to see a few examples of different face-ups, to see the versatility of a particular mold.
Also eyebrows. I like eyebrows that are expressive, that have opinions. I realize that it's not part of the head mold, but I think the shape of a headmold really determines the degree to which a pair of doll eyebrows can express themselves without clashing with the nose.

Oh, I think expression for me! ^__^ I don't have any characters already that I need dolls to fit, so any doll that I see that just leaps out and I can imagine how he/she would be in my home, I kinda stick on the "oooh, yes!" list, hehe :)
I think expression is perhaps a wary line to tread, as it can depend so much on how the doll is posed in the company photos and how they've chosen to do the face-up and the clothes and the wig, etc. ... I think it can be misleading.
... which is why owner-photos are always the next place I stalk ... :D

what attracts me most to the mold is probably the hands and the body.... since i own all male dolls... it was pointed out to me by my friend that they all somewhat look the same almost... with the androgynous look to them but still a little manly.... that and whether or not they look good with long hair... that's a big must for me... so far my most prized doll would be my Dollshe Sa Saint... i'd have to say he's my dream doll... i agree about the way the company photos can be alittle misleading since i kinda experienced it with the Unidoll Jace... i love his body and he's got nice hands just his face really isn't workin with me... but he's a beautiful sculpt....

I tend to like more realistic looking dolls and also like to collect dolls that fit together in scale. Dollstown are some of my favorites. I think the bodies are lovely without being exaggerated to fit a stereo-type of what a 15 yo girl or boy looks like. And I think the little 7 and 5 yo's bodies are correct and don't have an animated look. I would like to see a little one with more of a happier expression. I don't mind a moody look at all, but would like a happy baby to lighten the mood.
But, in general, I'd like to see more real, realistic dolls meaning little individuals with imperfections here and there and not the model-pretty look that's so common. For example, maybe a bit of a button nose and more personality in a mouth - maybe crooked like Drew Barrymore's. Or a curled soft, teasing smile that seems to say, I've got a secret on a 15 yo boy or girl. I think a boy that should have freckles, tossled hair and an impish grin because he's the class cut-up and quircky would be cool. I'd also like to have more choice with hands and would like to have some that give a boy an impression of strength or that they're used rather than beautifully, elegant one. I want to say that I LOVE the elegance of the dolls over all, but I would like to see more individuality rather than ideals.

Usually eyes and lips attracts me the most. If they have pretty face, but oversized lips etc, it will ruin the whole doll pic for me :sweat I really like teeth too! I find teeth are very adorable all the time. :kisses
The nose, I like small rounded nouses for the girls and more big and realistic noses for the guys. I really dislike CP noses, they are too long and narrow.
The other factor is the eyes, they need to be a middle size. Big eyes are unnatural looking, but small eyes are too realistic for me.

I like very realistic looking doll faces, and when the eyes sit in realically not away far from the mould in places.

I'm not quite sure what inveigles me about certain dolls. Perhaps it's the sum of the whole that attracts me?
Headmolds I adore are: SchA, SchC, F01; Sasha, Anais, Michael; Liz, Michele, Mai; Masha, Mark, Chris; Lucas, Madoka, Kai; Cyndy, Emma, Tony; Williams, Cristal, Suigintou; Irvin, Pearl, Genki; Resiner; F03, F16, F17; F27, F33, F40. And that's just volks. :sweat
They all have a similar look about them in that they have summarized European features, wistful gazes, and some are quite androgynous. Perhaps that's what appeals to me?
I prefer slightly less mature bodies for the most part ~ I'm not a fan of rippling muscles, protrusive ribcages and huge busts [huge penes are A-okay xD] perhaps that's because many of the dolls I have in mind aren't overtly sexual. Perchance it's because I myself have a slightly less mature body. [I'm nineteen, going on twenty soon and still confused for being sixteen and fourteen ~ despite the tattoos and piercings]
I might feel the greatest attraction to some dolls because they are the voracious renderings of how I view myself as there are quite a few similarities.

It's a few things for me...call me "picky" :D
I look for masculinity in the face and body of my boys.
I look for small busts and more realistic portions in my girls.
Regarding faces alone, my boys must look like men not boys, I like a strong jawline. For girls and/or boys the shape of the eyes has to be right and the lips are kind of a priority.
The first thing I got weary of with BJDs was the preying mantus heads, alien-like anime eyes, and tiny little barely there anime mouths. So I look for more realistic sculpts than the standard anime looking dolls.
ya get me?

I do not have a doll of my own, but for me, it all comes down to how nuetral the doll's face can look. I want a doll face that doesn't look too sad, mad or pissed, too sleepy, or even too happy. I want a doll face that could be used for any occasion/situation. The doll face I'm happiest with so far is D.O.D.'s D.O.I. Luke ver.2.

The first thing that attracts me to a doll is their face mold and how original they look. I really like original looking dolls, they are attractive to me and i love them! Or ones with huge eyes and small noses.
Then after doing more research on that particular doll i find out if the body is something i would like or not. There are certain brands that i love their face molds but do not care for their bodies. I prefer more mature bodies with really tight joints, because i do not like it when they extra joint part gets stuck.

Hi!
This is Lady!
Im new in this site!
I hope I can have more friends here!
I tend to look for molds that range more on the side of "childlike". Not to say that they can't be sultry and sexy with a proper face up, but I find most of the girls I own have larger eyes, somewhat rounder cheeks/jaws, small lips and pert noses.
Just keep on posting Guys!

I never buy girls, but I do love femme boys, so I'm usually pretty taken with girl-to-boy molds.
I love dolls with natural/proportional features for the most part. Eyes that are toooo big aren't really my thing, unless the rest of the features are evened out well.
I'm also admittedly not a huge fan of the more well-known companies, like Luts or Volks, because I've seen so so many of them everywhere for the last couple of years, that their features just don't do much for me anymore. I generally go with smaller, private companies like Migidoll, Ninodoll, K-doll, etc.

1/4 girl Mei that I have ordered from Bobobie has a certain innocence about her face.
The FairyLand MiniFee Woosoo Vampire Elf (Girl), which I also covet, has a rather sultry look to her features.
1/3 Girl Ai from Bobobie is a Satyr with appropriately jointed legs, and as a fan of the old World of Darkness Changeling: The Dreaming game, is another doll I covet because of her character. For Changeling: The Lost I would make her Seeming a Beast (Runnerswift Kith).
I guess for me a doll has to have character first and foremost for me to take an interest in her. And yes, I will mostly be collecting girls because girls get all the best outfits...
And to be honest, very few of the boys do it for me. They're all very nice, but none so far has made me go "I want a boy doll".
Oh yes, and decent boobies are a plus but not a deal maker or breaker. :blush

No seriously, I'm attracted to the face first. I tend to like rounder faces, droopy or narrowish eyes and quirky mouths. I dislike buff bodies and stick like arms which probably explains my infatuation with Iplehouse EIDs.

Not too smiley is important. I tend to prefer a more serious look, but not necessarily too sad, either.
I like fantasy sculpts, elf ears are always worth a second look.
I find I'm always drawn to the "little cat faces", big eyes, short face, pointy chin, small mouth, and love a lot of the more stylized dolls that have these qualities, although too big eyes or too pointy chins have put me off before.
I really like but don't collect the more realistic sculpts from companies like Dollstown, Souldoll and Limhwa because they're too big for me/don't fit in with the storylines I'm focusing on with my current dolls, but I love looking at them.
I love the Iplehouse men and wish their JIDs were just a teensy bit stronger-jawed/bigger nosed. I wish DragonDoll's Kai or Emperor Huang came in slim mini size. So I guess strong faces are a big draw in male dolls, and that's why I don't have any yet, since large dolls are too large for me to handle.

I will always look twice at a doll with teeth. I think they're the cutest little things, and I even enjoy some of the derpier-looking vampire teeth (VDES).
I prefer headmoulds where the doll is very slightly smiling or smirking (Lishe, Madoka) with wide, sweeping eyes. I like eyes with an interesting curve to them, such as Woosoo, El, and Lishe.

Oh yes, smiles are good. Just that slight little "I know something you don't" smile. Lovely. <3 Good mouths in general are important. I like them a little fuller, not too thin.
And eyes, oh yes. Not those great big wide open eyes. A little more slender and exotic is nice.
I used to think I didn't care much about noses, but there are a few that bug me. Nothing MJ thin, thanks. I dont' mind pointy noses, but they can't be stick-figure noses.
And of course, a doll always gets bonus points for pointy ears. ;)

Lips, eyes, noses and chins(odd I know). I also love teeth and I'm a serious sucker for half closed eyes, every time I see a sculpt with them I stare for awhile and try to decide if it looks too much like my Dollzone Hong and that's why I'm drooling or not.

Y'know, now that I think about it, I'm not sure what attracts me to any particular mold. I know what I don't like, which includes open mouths + teeth, overly femme male sculpts, inoffensive female sculpts, and anime-stylized 60cm+ dolls.
So I suppose that means I prefer realistic 60cm+ sculpts, no teeth or open mouth. I also like my female sculpts with strong features or a faceup that gives it the appearance thereof. Something like that.

The dolls I buy must match up with my mental image of the character they are. That's the biggest thing. But eyes are something that I am most interested in seeing.
Big eyes on a sculpt is an automatic turn off for me. I don't like the closed eyes sculpts and I'm on the fence about the dreaming sculpts.
I also like the mature bodies whether they're MSD or SD. I want to see some abs. I want some meat on my boys not little stick guys. If there's something extra like cool ears or claws and the like, they'll certainly get a second look from me.

-Eye shape. Not too droopy or sad looking. Not too narrow or closed either. I really am not too fond of dreaming faces, which is a shame, because most vampire molds I like are dreaming faces.
-Maturity. While I think baby-faced dolls are beautiful, I don't really have much interest in owning one. That doesn't stop me from pouring over pictures. I don't know, I think it's something about the idea of "babying" a doll at my age. Playing with them is one thing, making baby talk is another. That's probably just my own weird quirk, however.
-Smile/Lips: I like natural looking lips, smirky lips, wide unusual lips, pretty much anything but that perfect cupid's bow.
-Unusual features or profile: An unusually long nose, or wide nose, jawline, etc, can often sell me on a mold most other people find "weird"

I'd have to say its the face. I'm more attracted to a wistful, dreamy, or sad like face (Tender Shall). Then its the skin color. Apparently I like the white skin more than normal. Finally its the body and how proportionate the head looks to it. I'm not a fan of bobble head dolls. I also like to see a head blank as well as with make-up. You can't make a judgment without seeing the blank head and knowing full well what you are getting into.

I so fussy it's unbelievable. I like realistic, mature sculpts like Soom gems and Dollshe Saint/Bernards (the heads at least). I fell in love with my Zaoll muse because of her more realistic proportions and smaller eyes. She's also really versatile, all zaoll owners seem to manage to do something different with their doll.
However, flexibility is also an issue for me, I love the proportions of the EID men but I've decided for my next doll to go for a doublejointed yet slightly bobbleheaded DZ Cosmo instead beause I believe he's more posable. Actually, I'm way too anal about doll bodies, especially shapeless/too long legs are a turnoff for me. I guess my perfect body would have the detail and proportion of the EID and the joint system of a dollshe DSAM35!
Big noses are pretty awesome, too!
I also like to see a head blank as well as with make-up. You can't make a judgment without seeing the blank head and knowing full well what you are getting into.
Absolutely! I want to see a doll from every angle and without a faceup before I buy. Some manufacturers have way too few promo shots so thank god for owner pics.

I like many people here it seems, am finding dolls for characters. I have found dolls that I love and have no character for (Yeon Ho by Crobidoll? Want one. Have no character for the silly thing) I think I tend to go for more angular features. Sharp pointy chins, narrower, less round faces. I am unfond of dreaming dolls. You can't see their eyes. And the eyes are the window to the soul. Also, I like the photostory aspect. I personally would find it hard to photostory someone whose eyes are perpetually closed or at half mast.
Not as worried about noses. But mouths and eyes are important. Eyes not too narrow or anime huge and lips that aren't all puffy and pouty. Or the Porno star 'O' position. I have no idea what that is about in bjds but it really bothers me. I will never buy a female doll who looks like she's about to go down on someone.
You know I was about to ask why someone would buy a doll with that face, but figured I might get actually get answers. *laughs* So I'll keep that question to myself.
Bodies aren't such a big deal since I do not fear hybridization.

Haha Roulette, I'll give you an answer, as I adore 'O' style heads and have two on my wishlist XD For me, I love doll heads with a strong expression. It's not about the sexuality, though I don't deny they are sexual and mine will definitely be sexual, it's that it fascinates and amuses me to have dolls that have faces with strong expressions in the sculpt. For example, I own a Glorydoll Louis. The mold always looks sad, you can give it a happy face-up and in fact mine has a face-up that would be considered happy on most other sculpts, but he always looks sad and dreamy. Some may call it non versatile, but it inspires me. Same with the 'O' faces, they amuse me, they always make me think, what is that doll doing? What is going on? Some people like a doll with blank, inoffensive, pretty features so they can use it as a canvas to paint their idea and character on. I like molds that inspire me with their features and that keep fascinating me and give me new ideas by just looking at how they are sculpted.
A friend of mine has a Bleu Citron/Zaoll hybrid, and that doll always makes me smile. I guess, for me, that is important.

Overall proportion comes first than eyes than lips. As long as one's nose isnt too big or too small. I care less <:

I think that I am drawn to the eyes and mouth of the head sculpt before I am attracted to anything else. I also like more mature features so I don't really go in for the cheeks that seem to be made out of nothing but baby fat, definitely not my cup of tea.
The next thing that I look at is the body sculpt, I also like more mature looking bodies there but can be a bit more giving in that area since a lot of the time the body will be covered up.

Well proportioned faces. As long as they manage to work together aesthetically then I'll probably be drawn to them. I tend to favor more realistic faces, but I like them to be beautiful. Soom's MD line is a good example of having the aesthetic idealism I tend to like.
Body wise I would like them to go well with the head, but just as the heads are idealized so are the bodies, and unfortunately, I find most of them strange looking. Luckily clothes hide them! I think the best head/body combination I've seen is Iplehouse's EID line. I love the how the male and females have well proportioned bodies with shoulders that can carry the heads! Well done Iplehouse!

I think most molds I've seen have been really cute, but I tend to like the poutier looking faces.

I have to see all sides of the mold, if it already has a set expression without a faceup and what type of character would go with that expression, how big are the eyes(holes, slanted? wide-opened? Sleepy look? how does the eyelids look). Lips, eyes, and nose are the major factors.
I don't like too puffy cheeks, or too small/big lips, basically I want a mold more realistic. With all these things to consider, getting my second doll is going to be more of a challenge than my first, with the body to also get I might not bother matching the head, maybe.

Hmmm this one is tough I would have to say what attracts me to a mold is what character I have in mind, or Mostly I am particular to Elf ears. Most of mine are CP Elfs which are my favorite. And think an overall graceful look about the mold.

For me it the Character that i see in it. It must have a certian amount of life for me to even notice it.

I think for me it's the eyes and the lips. I don't like thin lips or small eyes. The biggest sell for me has to be hands though. The doll could look amazing, but I get put down if the hands aren't just as amazing. *koff* Which is kinda why I'll never own a Volks MSD or the older Bluefairy dolls. I'm not really a fan of the chubby hands. It might be why I love Unoa's so much. :sweat
