I am a fan of these dolls. The July doll, Bix, is online now, and I am so amazed at the creativity and the detail in both the doll and his costume.

I wonder if anyone else is "Soomed" by this company.
"Soomed" was a clever word that someone on DOA came up with... I just borrowed it!:nod As I seem doomed to give them large amounts of money!

Back on track, though... I really like what they're doing with their dolls, especially the creative parts (hooved legs, horns, crab claws now!) and it makes me really curious to see what they come up with as the months go on (Sagittarius could be really interesting :D).

My only complaint would be in delays in shipping. I'm still waiting for Beryl to ship (I only paid her off in June, but...) and they keep releasing exotic new dolls. Great to keep the orders coming in, but as they're already backlogged on Beryl and Sard, I don't see things getting better for a while.

I am just so impressed with the level of creativity combined with an amazing amount of willingness to take a risk! To invest such time and effort into such a very specific doll amazes me. I just applaud Soom.
If you had told me that I would fall in love with a doll wearing 'armor'/ leather, who had an arm like a crab, and was a male, but had on a bit of eyeliner... I'd have said, "Wha-a-a ? No way."
I thought Vega -- Night Song was outstanding. This fella may call to me even more.
It really does not help that his 'birthday' is the day after mine!!

I love their Super Gems, especially Dia. I think I'll be making a male Dia sometime in the future. But I'm scared that I'll fall for one of these Zodiac dolls....they just keep getting better and better.

i have definitely been impressed by soom's creativity as well. by using the astrological signs they have really gone beyond just offering a beautiful boy or girl for bjd fans. it's been exciting to see what they've come up with for the animal based signs and i'm really looking forward to leo, capricorn, and sagitarius. i'm also looking forward to paying off my sard.

i am highly amused by bix and his little crab arm. he's actually a good looking boy. i want to sprinkle old bay on him and just eat him up! hahaha

I really don't want Saggitarius to be a girl! My star sign is always portrayed as a male centaur. Not female. But oh holy crap, how absolutely phenomenal it would be if Soom made an SD centaur!!! I would be so estatic. I would definitely be Soomed.

And I agree with the post above mine. Seeing the Chinese zodiac would be very awesome. I would want to see my sign, the Dragon. the Rat would be interesting to see in Doll form too...

i'm glad that i threw caution to the wind and put him on layaway- that said, i can totally understand how you feel because i was ecstatic with news of his release. here's hoping you're able to get one second hand!

i will not be tossing my sard anywhere, but if soom releases another amazing doll that peaks my interest, i don't know if i'll be able to resist.

Actually I believe they've done Aquarius already. Deneb Earth Spirit Was done for Feb, fit the boy/girl pattern and her concept fits Aquarius as closely as Onyx fit Geminia.

I love the quality of Soom's dolls in general. The monthly dolls are simply spectacular. Just the artistic "take" on each doll is fabulous and the fact that they still fit the Soom aesthetic.
I'm just so impressed.

I think these dolls are gorgeous and was very tempted by their 27cm dolls with hooves and then those paws - oh, so cute! - but as gorgeous as these dolls are I think these are the types of dolls I prefer to see in pictures. I honestly couldn't choose a favorite because I love them all :)

I'm SO mad because while I like the Soom Monthly dolls, it's the strange body parts I want the most like the horns and hooves. I have a few dolls in mind and the hooves and horns would be PERFECT but they're not sold seperately and I wish they would sell those parts as optional or just... it's frustrating.

Well, I think we all know why they don't sell the parts separately. And I do think that it would make those dolls less special if the parts could be bought for any doll, with that said, I see the various parts for sale almost every time a new doll comes out because someone wants to split the order. If you are lucky, maybe you'll find someone who wants exactly what you don't want!

Yes, I have been Soomed/am Soomed. I got Spinel yesterday and as I unpacked him I knew I was going to sell my other dolls because I had found what I've been looking for. The quality and the head blew me away. I have Chrom on layaway. My five year old son can't wait until Chrom arrives. Chrom will be the first big fantastic fantasy doll I've ever collected (I don't consider my elves to be that wild or fantastic).

Soomed here, too. I just got a horned Heliot head yesterday, no faceup, no body, just the head...and it's my first resin "doll" to arrive. The parts *can* be had separately if you're on eBay at the right time, if you miss out on a split, it seems... (I wasn't around when they were originally on sale, the hands don't do much for me, and I'd like to stick it on a girl body anyways)

Now I have to hunt down some MSC and learn how to do faceups!

I LOVe Soom MD's too, especially the SuperGems. I am not a fan of tinies.
I have heliot (Yasha for the R. Head and the other head will be turned into a girl called Milehva), amber (Andreiana), my cass is at shipping now (Irina) and I'd really love to have a beryl, topaz and cuprit head, and a soom Vesuvia.
Maybe one day when I have enough money I can buy them secondhand.

Soom is absolutely amazing. Everything they make is gold in my opinion... I just wish i had more money to buy them all... or even more than one. I currently only have Amber, but i really wish i would have bought Shadow onyx and Vesuvia... They are such beautiful sculpts!!!

I like the Som dolls, but sometimes I just like the head mold and not all the other fancy stuff. I really fell for the Alk/Yrie set, and if they were in normal skin, I so would have bought one. Alas, I dislike the BW skin enough to pass on one of my favourite tiny sculpts.

Hit and miss for me, although I came THIS close to getting Io ^^;.
They usually aren't right for me, though, so I wasn't paying much attention . . . and now realize that I love Chrom and Sphaler's headsculpts with a passion (Euclase is damn pretty too). Well, I don't have a character for any of them, so I'd have been safe anyways, but Chrom is just such a distinctive fellow *sigh*.

So far I've been safe, but if they do come up with a tan Supergem boy next as rumours suggest . . . I may be Soomed. Argh, no money, no room!

The Soom MDs are hit and miss for me, mostly miss. In my eyes, almost every single male Soom MD would look better as a girl, i.e. way too femme for my taste.

I strongly prefer the Soom Super Gem standards, as the men actually look like men. However, the paranoid pessimist in me wonders if Soom plans on closing out their standard line (they're no longer producing cream white as standard and they've discontinued Olivine and Carnel) and going exclusively limiteds. Now that would bite.

It's kind of a shame, IMHO, that the Soom SG standards aren't more popular. With the vast amounts of MDs out there, the standards are rare dolls indeed.

I got nailed early on by Euclase, and he remains my favorite MD sculpt, though I'm not a huge fan of his special parts. *laugh*

I did pick up Sphaler, though I suspect I'll be selling most of him, since I really don't care for his lips at all. Just the dragon bits. (Opposite of Euclase, heh.)

I have an Alk on order, who really needs to bloody well ship dang it! and am part of a Galena split for the wings.

I also have, uh, Cuprit's hooves and Heliot's hooves. >.>; My excuse is that I have a shapeshifter doll. ^^;;

I really don't care for most of the faces, though. Chalco is intriguing, but I have issues with Soom SuperGem body posing and Chalco is only really intriguing in tan. Thus, I'll just sit him out and wait for the pictures to be spammed. I kind of like the Heliot face with his default faceup, but again, not enough to own him.

And I've always found it amusing that the dolls everyone else drools over (Beryl, Sard) don't appeal to me at all. *shrug* Different things for different people, I suppose.

I'm hoping he's consistently gorgeous - I loved the company photos of Chrom but have only seen one or two owner photos I liked of him. Seems like he's difficult to photograph or something.

XD It was May, it was my birthday which is in May, so he was like.... "Pretty~" For all of like three days. Otherwise, yes they're pretty, no I have no desire to own one. -_-;

I got Heliot specifically for a story I was doing, and somehow ended up getting another hooved and winged body for the second head, so now have a pair of them.
Now that the story is done, the love is gone. I like them with the wings attached, but that makes them unwieldy to take anywhere. So they sit on the shelf collecting dust.
I have one more story cooking for them, and then they'll move on.

I managed to snag a Euclase in the second hand market. Had realized once owner pictures started popping up, that I'd missed a good one there. So, coughed up the high price and got him full set.
Ends up he's one of those that is so stunning, I just want to stare at him and don't do anything with him. He sits in his half crouch on the shelf collecting dust. But... I love him to pieces! He can just stay there if that's all he needs to do.
It's strange how that works for some dolls, but for others, if they sit on the shelf for too long, it's time for them to move on.

It seems like I just got Sphaler, and since I got his parts blank, it's going to be a while before he's "done". All that footage to blush... hands, horns... it's kind of daunting, and I never seem to have a huge chunk of time and energy to attack that chore with.
So he stands, all regal and patient, on the shelf, collecting dust... Notice a theme here?

I do have Bygg. I leaped at ordering him from Soom. And then promptly entered a split for a body for the OE head too. So now I have a pair of little gray Soomlets.
But in the meantime, while I was waiting for them, I nabbed a Glati off the second hand market, because I had gotten nervous about getting more tinies, when I'd just realized that tinies are not for me.
Glati was just too head heavy with those horns. If they'd been hollow, or just lighter somehow, we might have gotten along better. As it was, I sold him off quick. Hard to like a doll that can't keep his head up or hold it in a pose very well.
I'm still wondering about whether the Byggs will stay, but I just yesterday finally got the second Bygg from the split, and it was an adventure getting him. The post man mistakenly scanned him as "delivered" last Wednesday, but I'd received nothing. I work the same hours the post office is open, and work half an hour away, so no way to get there until Saturday. Had half a heart attack until then, checking the parking lot, neighbor's front porches, for the box...
When I got to the post office, the guy at the counter was very laid back. "Don't know why he scanned that as "delivered" when we have it right here".
So, I don't know if all that insanity will make me like the doll more, or less.

I finally found a Chrom with a non-default faceup (that default one looked good in the promo pix, but yak when they showed up in owner pix) that I really like, in the second hand market. Not a bad price for just his human body and FL head. I really wanted the human head with that faceup, but that doesn't exist. This faceup was just on the FL head, so I leaped. He's the most handsome of the MD boys! FINALLY, a handsome Asian man for me. Something I've been seeking since I started in this hobby. The wig I've got him in, covers his ears for the most part. And somehow, it just works for him. We're quite happy together. I find myself wanting to drag him all over the house with me.

My Sabik is another one that doesn't get out much. More than some, but really...
But I really like him. He's a keeper. :)

I was really wanting Chalco, because I missed Sard - liked the body, but not the head, and thought a minotaur would just be great. I had in mind exactly what I'd do with him. And I have a weakness for tans. But... his thighs look like mine, and I don't really like his face - as others have said: too girly! And I've heard that leg design that was used on Amber, doesn't work all that well. Plus, I'm still trying to stop the doll acquisition stage this year. No, really. So, I've managed to pass on him.

I do wonder, though, what they'll crank out for the next phase. I really hope it's something butt-ugly, so I can get through this year safely!

You know, when I first got into this hobby I was pretty bedazzled by Soom, and I quickly had a list of their monthlys that I wanted to get. I have several friends with Sooms that I've gotten to see up close and handle a little bit, and while I still really like some of them, or aspects of some of them, the company is quickly decending into the Meh catagory for me. Other companies are doing fantasy themed dolls as well if not better than Soom, and for cheeper and don't require you to jump on the compulsive bandwagon because they only offer them for a month. Also, I have heard many a complaint about the posability of many of the dolls (Amber's legs for example).

I'm not saying they don't make a lovely doll, they really do, but when I weight all the pros and cons, they largely just aren't my thing.

SOOM "irks" me on many levels. Obviously the pony up massive amounts of cash EVERY month thing is annoying but up to them.

Mostly I've found that with few exceptions the actual doll is rather a let down from the pics. The don't pose well, the legs joints are wonky, they are much too skinny for my taste.

I had aernath's RatT, a Heliot, side by side with my Iplehouse Evan and honestly? Even though EIDs don't sit well, I have to say the EID is a far better doll, aesthetically, cost to quantity and even in the posibility.

However that's merely my opinion, others satisfaction levels may differ.

So far I've only been head over heels in love with Sard and Onyx. Some of the new ones (like Chalco or the new fox girl) are pretty but all fail to impress me enough to buy them. Perhaps its because the magic wore out and I'm bored of the line already ^^;

I really liked the Vega and the Uyoo since I have this long standing fascination with all things Mermaid/Merman and those two caught my attention right away, but I think that they are far too big for my tastes. I tend to like the MSD sized guys and girls the most.

I also really liked the Sard, Chalco and Chrom dolls as well. Almost anything that's mythologically based gets me going. Plus I love the hooves on Sard and Chalco and the paws on Chrom, but I don't really see myself shelling out that kind of cash for any of those guys.

Now if I found them at really good, I mean really, super good prices, then I'd think about picking them up.

Yep, been SOOMED, here.

I have a Sard and a Euclase. I love most all the MDs, but until I win the lottery, I can't collect 'em all. :(

I've always liked fantasy elements--so the MDs are totally a dream for me. Most of my dolls are at least elves, and some have unusual skin colors. I also really like the head and body sculpts of the MDs.

This year's MDs haven't impressed me yet. Breccia and Appini and Shonki feel like repeats of the previous year. Yeah, they've got fantasy parts that Soom hadn't done in 2009, but it's really nothing new either.

Personally, I want to see CYBORG tinies. Borgified babies, resistance will really be futile!

Or if Soom wants to keep doing animal/human fantasy fusions, what about animals that are a little more unconventional. Like spiders, snakes, crustaceans, etc. I could go for a cobra-themed Super Gem!

Yeah, that's something that drives me a bit nuts about Xavier. Part of the reason why I made him an arquebusier, since he has no upper body strength to swing a longsword ..... :damnit

I don't like Soom dolls enough to own one, though Tygati-san's Euclase is gorgeous. Shaial/Yetual is pretty, but that could just be the fact that he's SPARKLY~ all over. XD But yeah, wouldn't want to own one, nothing really ever grabs my by the shirt and shakes me demanding "BRING ME HOME WOMAN!"

Wanting the body for someone (although it would have to be a 6 month layaway :cry) was shot down by the wing plugs in his back. One of my characters runs around wearing not much (in one incarnation anyway, full armor in the original) so having a smooth back is rather important. Oh well. . . maybe next time.

Well, he's not a character I created. :sweat He's the older of two brothers. The Sphaler decided he wanted to be the younger one. Older brother I was able to tease (mod) out of a Minimee head I picked up a few months back. Not that Soom matches MNM resin but I'm looking at body type. Guess the actual body for Sphaler will have to wait until they release another male SG MD in CW. :|
