Hey everyone!
We've been wanting to make some changes to the Classifieds section (http://www.abjds.com/forum/sr_classifieds.php) of the Market for some time, but that sort of work is my domain, and in the process of me moving overseas it got rather delayed. XD However! I've been making a few changes, and I'd really love to get some further input from you, our users, about what you think might make the Classifieds better or easier to use.
I know that usage of the Classifieds has gone down rather significantly of late, so if there's anything we can do to help make the Classifieds more useful for people, we'd really like to!
The most important change that I've made thus far is this:
Ads will no longer expire.
From the feedback we received I really got the impression that this was a problem for a lot of people, having their ads expire and forgetting to relist them. So I've removed this completely. Now when you post an ad, it will remain open until you close it yourself. :D (I think this will also be useful to those of you who have shop ads pointing to your threads? ;))
If you had an already closed ad that you want to relist -- don't worry, you can find it very easily! The "Search" function of the Classifieds allows you to search for closed ads as well as open ones.
Simply go to the main Classifieds page (http://www.abjds.com/forum/sr_classifieds.php), and use the search feature there. Enter your own username, change the radio button to "Members", and change the dropdown to "closed ads only", and click Search. Once there you can look at any ad individually and edit it to copy out the exact ad details, then make a new ad.
Aside from this, I've also cleaned up various layout things in order to (I hope) make the Classifieds more user friendly. But I'd really like feedback from all of you on if there's anything else that you think might make the Classifieds more useful!
Just to note: the one thing that several people have asked for that I unfortunately can't provide at the moment is the ability to preview ads before posting them. I'm sorry about that -- I've tried, and I'm still looking into seeing if I can get it working (and asking for assistance), but at the moment it's a bit out of the range of my capability. I haven't given up yet though!
(And in the meantime, if you want to preview an ad, you can always pretend to make a new post and use the "preview post" function of that, and then just copy to ad to the actual ad window when you're happy with it! :) Just remember to post it as an ad, not a thread... ;) If you do accidentally post it as a thread, don't worry though, just PM one of us to remove it.)
