View Full Version : Who else likes more mature doll heads?

And by mature, I mostly mean a stronger jawline, and just less childish features overall. Don't get me wrong, I adore most of the doll's faces (one of my favorites has a really young face), I've just come to notice that more mature menfolk aren't that common.
If you've got a doll that doesn't look pre-pubescent, I wanna see him or hear about him. What got your attention, what made you fall in love with the mold? And since I'm looking to get one too, where'd you get 'em?
And let's not forget about the girls. I've seen a few very nice woman molds with more defined features and they were wonderful. I'm also pretty fond of women who can have strong features and still look beautiful.
Share pictures with a poor doll-less wannabe.
P.S. Strong jawline + facial hair = <3 ( *cough* Hitasura's Null *cough* )

My hubby bought me my first guy last christmas. I looked so hard, because I really wanted him to look "mature" rather than pre-teen. I've got Domuya Zen head on a male flexi-body. I have been working on blushing and a face-up (sad to admit, but I've had him almost 4 months and have not painted his face). He is going to get a moustache and a goatee if I can get it to work correctly. I'm planning on using alpaca hair for both parts. I'd like the look of real hair over paint. (I promise to post a picture once he's painted and whiskered ... is it bad to promise your doll not to post pictures until he's got a face?)
It was hard to purchase my first resin girl because I wanted a mature girl rather than a 12 or 14 year old girl. I prefer more risque clothing styles and mature themes and just couldn't put them on a little girl. My first resin girl is an Elfdoll Sooah (River). My MSD girls fall into the younger group, though, cause I bought sculpts that I really just loved (DZ Felian and BBB Sprite). My Sprite, Pippen, especially falls towards the younger group because she came with the immature body.

I don't have any boys but I think in minis Limhwa Limho is the most mature-looking guy.
http://www.limhwa.com/resources.htm
I also think DOC Kirill, Ivan, and some others are pretty mature looking:

And the Lati boys:
http://latidoll.com/2008_en/index.htm?mode=product_list&big=4&mid=8
For girls, I think Narae can look pretty mature. I own classic face Narae:

LauraJ: I looked at the Zen, but his eyes bothered me a little. I've seen pictures of him with various faceups and wigs that looked great but he always freaked me out a little. ^^;; I do wanna see pictures of your guy when he's done though. I've only ever seen painted facial hair (but I'm noob-ish and sheltered). The Sooah is gorgeous too. I'll have to get into the girl dolls ( I only have one planned, a Dollmore Ipsae (http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=1750) ) but my boys will prolly come first.
Carolyn.S: Awh, I really like the Limho. I also found the Mano pictures and back-pedaled furiously because that particular mold weirds me out. A lot.
Thanks much for the links. Your girl is really pretty.
Yay, feedback! You guys rock. =D

Check out Soom's Super Gem and Mecha Angel. ;) I like Rex and Spinel very much. The ladies are too mannish for my taste, but they might be the defined sort of sculpt you're looking for. My favorite mature girl is Supia Roda, but she is very soft and tender-faced. Elfdoll's new girl Hazel is also gorgeous and mature - but also very realistic, so it may or may not be your aesthetic.
Personally, I prefer youthful and androgynous sculpts, but I must admit that Rex tempts me terribly - if he weren't so HUGE (Mecha Angels are the largest size bjd out there, at 80 cm) I might seriously consider him.
Volks Yukinojo is a muscly fellow. Way too muscly for me, in fact, and I don't like his face; but there's the squarest jaw in all doll-dom. ;) Volks new F-38 is also quite strong-jawed, and in my opinion a bit more handsome.
Volks Olivia, Amelia, Garnet, and Ruby are all mature girls. I must confess I don't like any of them (as girls - Olivia and Amelia make pretty boys), but don't take my word for it. Like I said, I personally favor feminine, androgynous, soft sculpts. :lol
*cough* Sorry for the babbling! I tried to recommend not only sculpts I like but also sculpts that might fit what you're looking for.
Edit: Soom just proved me wrong about their Super Gem girls - they released this lovely creature today and she's divine (or rather, demonic): http://dollsoom.com/shop/step1.php?number=3030 Yum! So yeah, one rec for Beryl (keep in mind if you are seriously interested in her, that this is a limited edition fullset release, and Soom will probably release her as a less expensive standard later...though she might not have the kickass extra leg parts and horns.)

Kogepan: Roda is gorgeous. Wow.Elfdoll's Hazel is stunning too but not my cup of tea. Passed her onto a friend who is hyperventilating with glee, however.
80 cm? Goodness gracious. I want you, Rex, but you're too tall. xD Spinel, you're perfect. You're coming home with me. Now.

Spinel = :heart! You must get him. ;)
Mature sculpts seem to be becoming more popular lately. I think most of Iplehouse's dolls are pretty mature looking, especially Barron, Aaron, and Cocori. Somebody already steered you to the Soom dolls which I also think are gorgeously strong sculpts.
Although I don't actually have her yet :p, I have ordered a Swan Lake Cocori for the very reason that she looked mature enough to be an adult human since I'm planning a character doll and needed her to look realistic. I especially appreciate how her features are sculpted to portray a different look than the average "normal skin" doll. I think that really adds to the realism, for me anyway.

I love you, Iplehouse, all your girls are belong to me. .__.
I need a lot of money or I need to stop looking a dolls. I already found a match for my character with Spinel but I need more mature guys and girls.
( They're not as mature looking, but I'm getting a Louis, who's character needs to look young, and a SooRi who is supposed to be an older-brother sort. xB )

I needed a more mature sculpt for a character of mine, and most girl dolls out there are so stylized that I have been looking at mostly boy sculpts for her. Cause even most of the boys out there are just so darn pretty! I have decided that the ideal sculpt for my girl would be either a dollndoll Raam, or a Souldoll Marvin.

I've recently been getting into the more 'mature' sculpts as well. My personal favourites have already been mentioned, such as Volks Yukinojo and the new f-38 (I also love love love customized Heaths, and Williams is a pretty manly fellow), as well as the Soom guys. I'm not too into girl sculpts, but there are definitely a handful of more 'mature' molds out there.

*raises hand* You're not alone. I've loved BJDs since I first saw them quite some time ago, but I definitely wanted a very mature-looking doll. It was great -- I could, uhm, not have something new and gorgeous to go (even more) broke over! I could just smile, ooh, ahh, and not risk the wallet. The Mecha Angels are the official doom to that not-so-well-crafted budgeting plan. A friend of mine pointed out the link in the midst of oohs and ahhs over a costume on one of them, and... well, I've paid for two girls now, but having them? Not yet.
I absolutely fell in love with their faces, to be honest. They reminded me of the style I used to draw in, back when I had time and energy to draw. The combination of that, their size, and the can't-be-mistaken-for-anything-but-an-adult bodies and faces won me over in an instant.

I also prefer the older dolls. I love the baby-faced tinies but they are just not my thing. I also prefer more realistic dolls. so for that reason I like Unidolls and Supiadolls.

LOL! Well Barron is one of the best molds I know of in the 60cm range with strong masculine features. Facial hair and side burns were cut from sticky sided velcro. He has a default face up with a dusting of black pastel to give him the '5 o'clock' shadow....Oh! and he has a slight point to his ears...which you can ignore...or not :)
This is what he looks like without the additions:

So, I MUST like the older look for Jace because I have just been looking for wigs for him and I want 2 different shades of grey plus one that is black with white in it. ... or maybe that's just to make me feel younger.

I don't *think* anyone has mentioned Souldoll's Hye (please ignore if she's already been mentioned!) I think she looks so elegant ... I'm not sure she could look immature if she tried! I've seen a few Hyes with very different looks/attire and they all look so regal! *w*

I have always always ALWAYS found myself liking the mature sculpts the best. Even when I was younger and looking at action figures and dolls, I always wanted the mature look, so I guess my taste hasn't changed in that regard.
Mature + realistic == WINNER to me.
Also, I'm partial to male sculpts, so...
Thus, my favorite molds in the male department are: Unidoll Jace, Narindoll's Narin Charisma, Elfdoll K, Elfdoll Red, Iplehouse Boys (except for Louis, they can all do 'mature' pretty well), Volks Yukinojo, and Soom's Sabik.
I... might have forgotten a boy or two in there and if I did... :oops
For the girls, I love Narindoll's Narae and Elfdoll's Lydia and Sooah and Soah.
I still enjoy looking at the other dolls and all, but my own personal tastes definitely seem to run in a particular vein.

check my wishlish and you'll find a plethora of mature-looking male dolls (IP Aaron and Elfdoll Special Mir = instant :heart!) as for the ones i own, though, my very first, Isazu, has a very distinctive, angular face. his nose is proportionately larger than that of other male MSD-sized dolls, his eyes quite narrow- somewhat Asian in appearance- and his chin rather long. he's an early DZ sculpt, so his head seems a little big for his body. i actually got quite a bit of flak for that at first. people were saying he was a sanded-down recast of a CP El (his head isn't that big!) and that he was hideously malformed; someone even started a thread dedicated to Sas-bashing. although it bothered me at first, i had chosen the sculpt for aesthetic reasons, and now value it because it's unusual. there are very few Fengs out there. and i love a big nose on a guy ;)
so here's my boy. evidently he felt a little broody when the picture was taken...

I have just recently fallen for the more manly moulds!
My boys were looking to me like , well, boys! When I got Mina (dot E-an) She looked so good with my little Odelle (Rosen lied beige) That she needed a man to complete the picture. So the hunt was on and I found Volks alain. Not as harsh as some of the men, but a more gentle, fatherly look to him. He needs a body now and I am in love with the soom sg body. Trouble is I want to order a spinel now for the body, but I also love his face so want to keep that as well! Oh the dilemma*_*
Well heres alain anyway, on a soom gem body that is too small for him, and a borrowed wig and eyes..

I love the mature sculpts.
I second Unidoll Jace (although mine looks a little feminine) and also their new Rio. The Soom Super Gems (and in the bigger range, the Mecha Angels) also have some nice mature sculpts. I also think that Senior Delf Abadon can look pretty mature and Iplehouse Barron and Lion. Some of the Minimee heads can also look quite mature and realistic.

I have always preferred a mature face. I didn't play with "baby" dolls even as a child. In fact, that preference is what has kept me from getting a BJ till now. They all looked too young to suit me.
I also prefer the more Western style of face, and was excited to see that become more and more available.
I have been absolutely taken with Dia- Rose Queen, a Soom Super Gem Collection doll. :heart I haven't ordered her yet, but I'm not sure how long I'll resist.:blush

I actually seek the more mature male dolls. That's why I started with Elfdoll K. I thought he looked kinda angry, older, not as boyish as most at the time. I have bought (and just recently got) Souldoll Killian with the facial hair face up, and really like him. ( I got Leekeworld's Mihael but he's still boyish looking - I liked the realistic look to him/ the small eyes and pouty mouth). I think Barron and Lupin look very mature. Rex looks like an older teen.

I like my minis mature mostly just because I really don't like human children all that much so I'd rather not have a doll who looked like a kid(though there are some exceptions) but I don't really care for SD just because they look more mature than minis and that's good enough for me! ha ha

I also like mature-looking (manly) sculpts, particularly boys, or any sculpt
that can be turned into a boy...XD
I have a weird taste however, I like sculpts that might weird-people-out,
or sculpts most might find unappealing, like Unidoll's Ark, and Limhwa Limho Mano.
I actually own the latter, so here's a photo of him. I hope he doesn't scare
too many of you. ^.^;;

That would be me!! I'm one for mature dolls
The first boy doll that caught my attention was Soom's Spinel because he was the first male doll I found that looked like a man.
Recently (and I do mean yesterday) I visited Buddydoll's site again and they seem to be taking a different route, their boys are becoming less girly too, their 70cm Kyle has made my Wishlist.
Yes, the girly boys have bothered me since I fell in love with BJDs almost a year ago. But I've had time to study them and make good decisions.

Generally speaking, I'm not that keen on a lot of the "mature" heads. I think this is because many early efforts at that style looked awkward to me - the jaw was square, but didn't blend properly with the neck, or the body was just too small overall for the head . . . stuff like that.
That said, there's been a lot of improvement lately. I do have some adult characters to resinify someday who will need the more square-jawed look. I think Iplehouse really is doing this look the best, which is why one day Luo will come home to me *evil grin*.

I would say that I prefer a more mature looking doll. I bought a Soom Spinel because I liked how masculine he looked compared to some of the more feminine male types. And I am buying an Iplehouse Gentle Freezia because she looks more mature than my Soom Asil and is better for my Spinel...I think...^_^ Speaking of my Asil...I think I'll prolly trade her for a Mini Dollfie Dream or something...X3 I need to balance the adultness and cuteness. I love mature dolls the best. There are very few companies I've seen that have nicer mature faces. I really like Soom, Souldoll, and Iplehouse. But I'm leaning towards Dragon Doll for my first doll. The girl I want has a lovely mature face that I haven't seen in other companies.

I do like the way some of the younger/immature looking dolls out there, but I think it's mainly when they are the full set with the complete outfit and all of that. Though I do think it's kind of strange when you have the bigger sized dolls looking very young.
For the most part I like the more mature looking sculpts, like the Iplehouse guys and the tender versions of the Dream of Doll MSD guys and girls. My first order, when I save up the money is going to be the Tender Too and Bee set since it would take care of getting a girl and get at the same time.

I love the EIDs, both the men and women (not boys and girls!). Sooms I like, and I've toyed with the idea of saving for a Lazule but I don't know if I love them enough.
Off the top of my head, my other favourites are
Raurencio - all of them! Especially Racius (http://www.raurencio.net/shop/step1.php?number=585)
Unidoll - most of them! Especially Berkut (http://www.unidoll.com/en/view.php?pid=148&page=1)
Dollshe Saint (http://dollstown.com/zboard/view.php?id=dollsheorder&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=36) looks like my BF <3
And I'm waiting for a DZ Cosmo. (http://www.doll-zone.com/showproduct.asp?id=241)
Though I do think it's kind of strange when you have the bigger sized dolls looking very young.
This. But it also bugs me when sculpts that look like children or young teens are given mature characters - my brain just cant smush the two concepts together. I have to say though, there's an encouraging trend among Minimee comissions toward more mature looking dolls. Hopefully doll companies will take note!
I do like some of the younger looking dolls, as long as they look realistic. I have a Zaoll Muse, who can either look quite mature or quite young depending on how she's styled.

The EID guys are probably some of the most masculine--helped a lot by their size and super-hero type bodies.
I have some Soom MD boys, but they aren't that masculine, head-sculpt-wise. I mean, Sard is very similar to the Dia which is a girl sculpt!--although many seem to prefer that head on a male body.
Soom Sard--
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/aprilllee/08-11-Sard%201/08-11-Sard1-116z449x600.jpg
For most Soom boys, it's not the masculine features so much as the more mature look in general, with a longer, smaller head and smaller eyes, and the taller, more mature body helps, of course.
Soom Euclase--
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/aprilllee/09-04-Euclase%201/P1010259.jpg
Of course it's all relative. Way back when I got my first BJD in '04, El was about as mature as one could get...! I put size 16mm eyes in him to make him look older. Other dolls had these HUGE wide eyes, which made them look pretty young (and cute).
CP Elf El--
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/aprilllee/06-02-Valentine/p2110141-449.jpg
It's possible to make even a cutesy tiny sculpt look a tad more mature by dressing them older and having a slightly sterner expression (no raised, questioning eyebrows, etc.). And having a body that isn't terribly rounded and plump.

Sooms I like, and I've toyed with the idea of saving for a Lazule but I don't know if I love them enough.
Do eeeeet! The world needs more Lazule love! Although, IMHO, if I put Xavier in a wig with bangs it makes him look much more younger and immature, as if he's a teenager. Probably why I prefer him in his normal curly ginger wig. :p
I also prefer mature sculpts, although almost any doll can be made to look mature with the right face-up, clothes and wig.
For example, Rico, my Dollzone Feilian. She's an MSD and the sculpt is generally presented as a young prepubescent or teenage girl. Rico looks more to be in her early 20's.

I'm definitely one of those that prefers a more mature look in dolls. I'm still in the initial stages of trying to find a doll that I love the look of. So far there's a couple of the Dollzone dolls, Iplehouse EID and Luts Delf (there's a couple of those that look more mature, to my eyes) that are on my "considering" list.
DZ Brant is at the top of the pile at the moment, but that may change. His face just really fits for a character that I'm rather attached to.

Definitely. I can happily say most of my dolls are this way (though most are still WIPs), with some exceptions, though to make a younger looking face seem older is half the challenge too. And of course enjoyable.

One has to mention the IpleHouse EID Women and DollMore models for mature females. Bobobie has a few nice ones as well, like the 68cm girl Chun.
I prefer my female dolls to be more mature.
Saying that, Bobobie Mei is a darling, and even if she looks a little young she still has a fairly mature face and stuck on a Bobobie three part mature bust body she is all woman with an air of Fae mystique...

Both of my dolls have mature characters. To me Mir and Hazy are adults, easily in their late 20's early 30's. I am considering a Soah, who looks best in a pageboy wig with school girl clothes. If I do by a Soah, she will be my first child doll.

I love boys with a more mature sculpt. But I like msd's... oh what a dilemma thankfully fairyland is there for me. As for girls I like a more youthful look to them.

I love mature looking sculpts. Iplehouse pops into mind the minute someone mentions mature. I just got myself an Iple SID Carina. The EIDs were too big for me unfortunately.

EIDs are awesome. Though as far as mature faces go, I find the EID males still have a strangely 'pretty' face for such a buff body; something I see on many 'mature' dolls. The trend for making a face appear older seems to be to make it 'skinnier', to demonstrate a lack of puppy fat perhaps. I like Soom Idealian Branon; he's a more balanced combination of pretty yet masculine, youthful yet mature, and not malnourished looking. Still a bit sunken of cheek for my tastes, but still beautiful!

I love the more mature sculpts myself as well, and very few of the cutesy ones have caught my eye. My first doll is a Soom Lazule (waiting for him to be shipped) and I just love how different looking he is. I also love the Iplehouse dolls, especially both male and female EID and SID dolls. I would love to own Carina and Eva someday, as well as Bichun. The girls are curvier and the guys are muscular--I love them!
I'm in love with mature doll sculpts....i wish I'd seen iplehouse before I'd ordered my first doll. ave a feeling when he arrives I won't bond with him =(...if I don't, I'll probably try to sell him to get an Iplehouse girl there's 2 I have my eye on. I'm also a fan of DollZone's Cosmo sculpt. That face...-drool-

I definitely prefer mature sculpts. The most mature head I have right now is my girl Chrom since I think she looks older as a female and she certainly makes my HZ boy look quite young by comparison. I'd like much older heads though. The current preference for young adults and below means it's really hard to create much older characters. This on the whole makes bjd photostories, etc, less realistic and true to life.

I much prefer the more mature look. The "younger" looking sculpts are cute but I like adult dolls most.

I also prefer the dolls with an older look or the potential to look older. Started with the SD16 girls and then found this site. Having these resources increased my exposure to how much more is available. Managed to get the old & new Yukinojo, and they do fit at the lower end of maturity. But having now seen the Iplehouse and others, it is probable that at least one will be added to the collection.

I enjoy more mature sculpts as well. But by mature, I mean something in their 30s or 40s or older - some creases, sags and hollows. And a body that doesn't look like it spends half of every day at the gym. Iplehouse' s sculpts don't seem very old to me, just still relatively young - 20s, but woth a very Western-style classic-amazon/Greek ideal man's-man vibe. They're pretty in the face, but not the more realistic mature average-person I'd like to see.
