I wasn't sure if this belonged here, or in meme, so forgive me if I've misfiled.
I saw a box opening thread on another forum today, which mentioned and pictured a doll's factory defect. It's gotta happen to some of us, some time, right? It got me thinking/wondering about other doll's little inconsistancies, and figured it'd make a good chat thread.
What is your doll's 'defect'? How did you react to your doll's out-of-box 'defect'? If you can, I'd love to see pictures.
My most amusing, out of box factory defect is on my Domuya Light Tan Flexi boy body. I got it for my Elfdoll Reminisce Red, Kohei. As I'm sure you're aware, when you mix tint into resin, you sometimes get marbling. Well, my Kohei has marbling on his penis. :o I laughed.

I can't really think of anything...most of my guys are second hand. The only thing that would sorta count would be when I bought my first doll, and CP elf ttory. I got the head first and maybe a few weeks later got the body. But in that short span of time they totally changed how they colored the resin and his body was far darker than his head. That was kinda my fault though too..his head was made before they sold white skin kid delfs...his body came once they added them. :P Been that way ever since.

Yay! Another Light tan Dom/Elfdoll mix! :)
Um... can't think of any birthmarks other than the ligt tan's foot. He's got a dark freckle on his left foot. Sorta endearing, really.
And Ichigo came without the Iple House seal. Just finally got one from a friend recently to stick on there. ^^;
LOL at the marbling your boy got!!! The perfect birthmark you don't really want to be showing off to just anybody. ;)
I have one my FCS, but its not really a factory defect. When putting on his first outfit the button of the jeans pushed into his belly so he now has a very small indent there. Reminds me of when he was new ^__^

I bought my F-08's head secondhand, and knew in advance that she'd be coming to me with some strange light-colored mark on her chin. The seller had no idea what was up with that, as she had bought it from Y! Japan on a whim and never really took it out of the box. She sent me tons of photographs about the imperfection, so I wasn't too surprised to see it when it arrived.
But imagine my surprise when, a couple of months later, I realized that the mark was from her chin being sanded down -- most likely by the original Japanese owner! XD; "No wonder she doesn't look entirely like the other F-08s I've seen pictures of! She doesn't have the pointy!doom chin!" But I love her just the way she is, modded chin and all, so all is well. ^_-

My Dollzone Hid has some kind of dent on the back of his neck, looks like it was from being pulled out of the mould too soon. It's kinda funny. There's no resin damage or anything, just...a dent.

i had my boy (shiwoo) for over a year before i dared to re-string all of him (i had had his arms restrung) so i never knew that he has a wrong ankle joint. i was standing him up after re-stringing his lower half and something was not quite right. i think he has like two left ankles or something. it was amusing to know that my boy has a gimp leg XD

My Chiwoo has a very small bubble on his arm, it has never bothered me, not even when I discovered it..it's kind of cute really, like a birth mark ^_^ I don't mind if people see it either, it's not really a defect to me-just another reminder he's handmade.

On the right hand of my Leeke Luke there is an airbubble's remainder between his third and fourth finger. Actually it only separates them a bit more (these two fingers are not totally separated) with its little crooked indent in his fourth finger^^

my MSD has a chip in her eyelid (that's my fault) and a couple nicks on her foot.
i'll probably never get the chip fixed and i may get her foot sanded someday, but they help remind her that she's mine. <3

I got a pair of girl hands from Luts with a huge sheet of resin hanging from the seam on the outside of the palm. Fortunately, amputation of the extra flap of skin was quick and painless. :)

Hiroki my Unidoll Limited UH-17 has an air bubble in the very tip of one of his fingers.
Also the day I got him I took him with me to the grocery store in a big napsack. His head rubbed and it caused a big part of his faceup on his forehead to rub off and part of his eyebrow has a scar. His wig covers most of it, but when I take it off it makes me sad.

My Unoa has a small black mark in her nipple. I thought it was a little piece of dust, but upon trying to wipe it away I realized it was in the resin. So it's like a little nipple-freckle. xD

I bought my first large girl secondhand, and the seller pm'd me about imperfections she noticed while packing her up for shipping (so I could decide if I wanted to continue the transaction.) One was a small mark above one knee.
She arrived, I inspect. The mark above the knee? In the same place, on the same knee as I have a noticeable scar. It amused me, in an odd way.

My Delf kis Cherry boy has one of his caster's lashes embedded in his finger.
I happen to think this is adorable in an odd way ^.^.

I have a handcasted doll, one of Lady Saiyuki's Ted's, that has two belly buttons. So cute!

Hana has a couple of small chips on her left index finger. I noticed that the second I took her out of the box. I don't mind though. They are very small and you have to be staring right at it with her finger almost poking you in the eye to see. I plan on adding that to her back story how she fought another Yage mold to the death so she could leave the factory.

My avatar girl, Sigunn, came to me from Y!J with an undisclosed modification. The seller, Osakabehime, had given her a rather heavy paint-job which I didn't intend to keep. Upon removing the paint, however, I could see that she'd tried to deepen the doll's eyelid creases and ended up gouging right through the resin. This she just filled with thick paint.. and the heavy black eyelashes she came with hid the defect on the other side. I repaired it with white Miliput epoxy and gave her a light faceup. The repair is not really visible. At first I intended to replace the head (as R20J's were easy enough to find then), but I got attached to her just as she is. Since she's damaged, I don't have as much temptation to sell her, and I feel less guilty about keeping her wonderfulness all for myself. ^_^

My number one has a sculpt fault Y___Y
His eyes are slightly misaligned. It's not too bad. A little angling could cover it, but it limits his photoshoot-able angles. Plus, it annoys when I'm doing his eyebrow or fixing his eyes to look to the front D:

my doll has a joint that "broke"..when I wanted to restring her, I realise that the string was stuck to the joints of the elbow..if order to get the remains of the string stuck inside, I had to "break" the joint off..so one side is now arm+ elbow, the other is arm+ elbow joint +elbow..

My Lupinus has some wierd rough spots on his stomach in the shape of flowers. It's always amused me XD No clue what could have caused it. They remind me of watermarks on paintings and such XD

I've always used Theron's (Isao's) broken hand (the one he came with, which Volks did send a replacement for). The finger break is not really noticeable in most photographs, but it's kind of a unique thing for him. Kiera (Emma) has a full on beauty mark on her chest - a tiny white spot that I'm told happens when the pigment doesn't mix 100%. It doesn't photograph and it's truly tiny, but I notice it from time to time.

When Pen (CH Gene, my first BJD) arrived, he had a dent in his lower lip (under the faceup, not a faceup rub). I have a scar on my lower lip in exactly the same place, so I thought it was adorable that Pen had a "scar" there, too. After a couple of faceup replacements, his scar doesn't really show up any more, and honestly, I miss it--it made him unique.

My Limho Mono, Reita, has a slightly crooked nose. Which to me make him more like family because my nose is also a little crooked from when it was broken! XD

I recently got a MiniFee boy body that has a spot on the back of his arm in the shape of a circle. It's slightly curved inwards and it has really tiny bumps all over it. Like the bump things you see on soda bottles or plastic models from time to time. It's quite strange XD

My SD boy, Hikaru, toppled over one day and broke a peace of off the headcap.
Now in dutch if you are trying to say you weren't born yesterday, you say "I haven't fallen on the back of my head". Well Hikaru has!

One of our dolls, Ryou (Delf Shiwoo) has a type 3 body that's didn't get sanded completely smooth, so his skin is kinda rough. We decided to keep it like this since it fits his personality to have kinda rough skin.

It's interesting to find out how people feel about imperfections, especially as I'm someone trying to make my own - so I have to face the occurence of imperfections all the time!

It must be something that is a cause from the mold or the stringing. I have managed to assist several individuals obtain this BJD and each one seems to kick under and out when she sits. When she stands, her lag kicks back as if she is ready for a romantic kiss. I have had 6 of these dolls pass through my home and each does the same. The dolls come from different production times too. I see it as a personality trait and I find it enduring. AnnMarie

Xavier, my Soom Lazule, has a tiny chip on the underside of his right wrist. I'm not sure when he acquired it, but I view it as like a birthmark, and it makes him distinctly mine. :D

I just noticed this when I took his faceup off a few days ago, but Rosencrantz has a bit of discolouration going straight up the middle of his forehead. 8D I like to think if it as his storkbite that never went away.

My little sister (11) just got her first boy, a FOURTH HAND Aod Chen. The poor thing has so many problems! His left thigh has a big, long, bumpy gash, he has a scar-like scratch through his right eyebrow, one of his wrists was crushed and had to be sanded and modded....half of these were things that weren't told to us. But when I suggested reselling him to get a better one, Lily went nuts and said absoloutely not, he was hers, she loved his scratches and bumps and poor eye-opening job and the fact that he won't stand unless you turn his right foot way in!
Impossibly cute. I've learned to stop deploring over his problems and to just love him anyway ^_^

Wow, they really areall unique aren't they ^^
My NS Zaoll Muse has a bit of marbling on her thighs but not enough to bother me.
The mold does have a slightly lop-sided mouth, which isn't a fault with her in particular, it's just a Muse thing.
I've been looking at darkcastle dolls and I love them but the first bodies have one leg longer than the other, I think that would be more of a bug than a feature for me.

When I first did my DZ Yuu's face up, I smudged a little pastel onto his upper lip. It was so cute, I've kept it there through three face ups. Active boys who grow up on formerly volcanic islands occasionally fall down and cut their lips on sharp rocks.

Just a thought - If it's not an obvious fault re-stringing or wiring might help. My girl sat perfectly when she arrived but since I've had her sitting around for a while her elastic has stretched a little and she likes to fall backwards.

My Tedros has a swirly white mark above one of his eyebrows. It doesn't show with his hair on and is kinda cool. Since he's a detective, of the old school school type, it's probably a remnant of some fight or other in the course of a case....

Since I'm the third [and LAST] caregiver to Ryuichi's body and the first for his head, It seems like he's been through a lot!
I think that one of my neko tried to take a taste of his left big toe a while back, so he has a dent there now. He also has a light spot in the center of his forehead from where the dirt and gravel was ground in and I spent 2 hours with a magic eraser sanding it out. Ryuichi's nose was also badly dented in that faceplant onto a 100+ year old road, so I had to sand his nose down. I also had to sand down the nose to his dreaming self so that they'd match. Personally, I think his nose/s look MUCH better now!;)
Ichi, Ryuichi's 16 year old A/U Elven self has a slight scratch in his factory faceup, and it looks like a scar, so I'm leaving it, especially since he's a LE!
None of the others of mine seem to have anything noticeable, but InuYasha's Alucard has a smudge in his faceup where the artist accidentally touched it while it was still wet.
Personally, I love each of these flaws, it make my and InuYasha's resinoids unique and truly one of a kind!:heart

My Dolkot Day came secondhand - the first owner had paid to have his seams sanded and told me up front she didn't think they did a great job, so there are a couple places where if you look you can see where they sanded it. They missed his right hand completely, though! It has the biggest seamline I've ever seen and probably shouldn't have passed quality control. But it doesn't really show in photos unless I mean for it to, and I've come to kind of like it as his own little individual quirk.

My first doll was new but her hands had a little resin on the finger that didnt belong. I never sanded it off or anything for years. But recently I got her matching rings and separted her fingers and got rid of that little bit at the same time....

My dollshe doll is a 'light tan" which is still pretty dark. He has some of those areas that are lighter, due to sanding off the mold protrusions. I don't mind them. They've just become part of his charm.

Two of my dolls have noticable defects. My Bobobie Espree came with a large chip on the bottom of her left leg, right above the ankle. I just sanded down the rough edges so that it wouldn't snag on clothes. It doesn't effect her standing, but it is noticeable in pictures. Amd my tan AOD Li Ge's ears are deformed. They're wrinkly and have a ton of discoloration. He also has marbling on his head. I wanted him to have short hair, but it has to cover his ears. I never thought it was worth it to return or replace either one of them.

Two of my dolls (who just happen to be siblings) have chips missing out of their ankles. It's not that big of a deal, though I may still sand them both to neaten it up a little. I just found it a little amusing that they were siblings with the same "injury" XD

My tanned Limha Mano's toe is slightly chipped at the bottom. I don't know if it's a factory defect or what because I got him second hand. He has "dry skin" issues. LMAO.
I don't really mind these tiny defects though. I'm not too fussed and I can find a way to make it work. Either by fixing the defect or covering up or by leaving it alone. XD

first off, i'm not a seamstress. i was marking a shirt with sharpie so i could resize it for my doll. the sharpie hadn't dried on the fabric enough when i held itup to my doll's chest to inspect my marks. so now my Soom Lupin has a small rectangular black mark on his collarbone. if you squint, you can almost pretend that he has a tiny barcode tattoo.
