I'm a fan of the Y!JA & Ebay sale links on the main page as well as the doll company links...great for lazy people like me ;)

3 letter word search = awesome!

I think the tags feature will also be really helpful! Huzzah!

I really like this place! The tag system is a great idea, as are the usergroups. But I think I have to say, I love the fact that this place doesn't show a post count. I feel that it takes the pressure off posting, somehow :sweat

Yes, we purposely removed the post count since people seemed so pre-occupied with it. It doesn't really mean anything! But if you need to see your post count, you can view it from your profile.

I like the news part so far. It's annoying to click on all the news to see if i read them or not (since you know, some old news gets bumped up, while some new news gets bumped down waaay too fast) , it's nice to see previews of it on the home section :D

I love the portal, with the ebay and y!j auctions and the news. I also adore the usergroups. And, I really like the fact that it's 18+ to register. Nothing against the mature younger readers but it's really nice to not have to run into "Omg, my mom won't buy me a BJD!!11". ^_^

Argh, really? People pay attention to post count? Why?

(Rhetorical question, no answer expected.)

Thanks for removing the count, since it's a potential source of drama! I do appreciate all the thought the admins have put into designing the forum and encouraging real conversation instead of posturing or whining--the post count thing is just one example.

The smilies are insanely cute, by the way, and it's going to be far too easy to get carried away with them. :oops

I just wanted to thank you all for your feedback so far, it's been great to hear what you all think, we all really appreciate your opinions! If you have any ideas for things we could do to improve or additional features that you think would be great to have, please don't hesitate to say something. vBulletin is very customizable so there's a lot we can do with this site! :D

I think I've answered this partially in another thread, but I really like this forum. It reminds me of the close-knit communities that I initially fell in love with when I first was a part of the doll community. I like the variety of themes, but I was wondering if the tables/bars could be smaller. I maximize my resolution, but it looks like I'm using 600x800.

I like how detailed the profile is, and it makes me want to take the time to answer it.
I think my favorite part thus far is the user groups section. I didn't realize how it worked last night at 2AM, but now that I'm alert, I love how you can pick what you want to read or see!

ETA: One last thing - I wish that the post count was shown. I can't believe people were so pre-occupied with it. I personally like seeing how often I post without having to access my profile page.

I really love the usergroups and the 18+ regulation - those are some great additions! I like the idea of the tags in theory, but coming at it from a n00b perspective (i.e, there's probably some really really obvious way of working around this that I'm not seeing) I can imagine there possibly being a problem with lots of different tags for the same thing, e.g, I think I've seen both "f16" and "f_16" used thus far in the gallery. It's probably too faffy to bother with, but might there be some way of using a drop-down menu to look through tags that are already in use in the forums, or something like that? :?

Good point re: the tags. Maybe we could decide on fairly standard formats and post up a list...or at least suggest format. I think I'll post something about this in the Q&A group so as not to clutter this thread. :)

Props for the removal of the post counts, and also for the adult age restriction. Nothing against the youngsters, but I like to have someplace to go at the end of the day where I don't have to see or deal with juvenile issues (just as I'm sure many of them prefer to have their time away from us adults).

The tags concept is interesting. I don't think I've ever seen it used on a forum before.

I'm digging the 18+ registration as well. as someone who's spent most of her time hanging out with her mom..I don't know how to relate to the "younger" croud that occupies DOA. I haven't had time to explore everything else yet but I'm working on it. So far so good!

I like the variety of themes, but I was wondering if the tables/bars could be smaller. I maximize my resolution, but it looks like I'm using 600x800.

We're looking for a good 800x600 theme to implement! Unfortunately 800x600 is so rare these days, so we may not be able to find one, but we'll do our best. :) In the meantime, have you considered switching your resolution up a notch to 1024x768? it's not that much different but will probably improve your viewing experience of all sites, not just ours ;)

This is definitely a great suggestion and today I'm going to look into whether there's anything available that could do this! :) In the meantime, a couple of us mods have been keeping an eye on people's tags and manually editing them to meet what we consider the norm, and hoping that people will slowly see the norm and fall in line with it, as it were. However I know that there'll still be many who won't realise/notice that there IS a norm at all, and I can see that this could quickly become exhausting/time consuming if we get much bigger! So I'll see what I can find. :)

I don't want to sound like I want to exclude people, but I enjoy the fact that this board is both small/intimate/friendly, and also threaded. There are a lot of doll lists or blogs where you can interact with a relatively small group, but for the most part the discussions aren't threaded and organized like they are for a board, and discussion is kind of all over the place, hard to follow, hard to access. I've been on mailing lists, threaded boards, unthreaded boards you name it, and for me, threaded boards like this work much better.

I'm really digging the site so far. I confess, I was a bit skeptical at first of yet another doll forum, but I was intrigued by the features, and sold on the overall atmosphere. I really really like the inclusion of tags and a wiki, and the usergroups feature is just genius. My only minor quibble about them for the moment is that you have to go into the Your User Groups forum to see your groups as subforums - it does keep the main forum page relatively uncluttered, but I like to be able to access all the subforums from the main page, myself.

I'm just starting to explore - but so far I find it very refreshing. Kudos on the age restriction especially, as others have already said, some of the "younger" discussions/posts especially lately on DOA have begun to drive me a bit batty, LOL I really like the atmosphere here--a smaller close knit group (hopefully sans drama XD), and I'm excited to try out some of the new features like user groups :)

I'm really loving the site so far. It's easy navigation and the colors are very welcoming and cheery. I also like the use of tags so I can easily find all the doll that fall into that category.

Just a couple of notes in response to things people have said (and thank you all for the great feedback so far, on all counts!) -- you can still access your post count (or other people's) at any time on the profile page. :)

Also, you're still able to browse the Wiki at any time regardless of whether or not you can post! :) Even users not logged in can browse the Wiki. It's meant to be a general resource and we want anyone at all to be able to read it. The only restriction is on who can actually edit it.

In regards to accessing the User Groups on the front page -- we'll definitely look into that, okay? We were trying not to make the front page too cluttered (especially when you have a lot of them!) but I can see why it would be more enjoyable for them to be there. It may be possible to make it a per-user option so I'll see what I can do. (I won't promise anything yet though!)

I've been posting on here a couple of days now, but it just recently really hit me how much I really love this place! Eventhough the place is growing, it seems to retaining a level of close-knittedness. Everyone seems really friendly, and I love the 18+ restriction and the usergroups. It really lets you personalize the forum and get to talk to people a lot more closely, because of the specialized interests. And the ability to go OT a bit in conversations and the special OT sections -- it really loosens things up and lets you get to know people even moreso. I'm really enjoying this place so far! :D

What I really love about this site is the ability to choose the color layout. It really is a dollfie site when you can customize it just like the dolls. ^^

And freedom! It amazes me that we can talk about any other doll in the OT section. I'm sure everyone else has a second doll passion and it's great to see that it's not just BJD's.
The interaction between the members and the mods is very refreshing to see, it makes this place more intimate and friendly.

Unfortunately, we can't make it show the thumbnails. It's the way that Yahoo Japan gives out the RSS feed for the auctions, that's why they are just text links.

I know, the first time I saw the links, I immediately thought "I want to see the items instead" but alas, we can't get around how Yjapan sends out that feed.

Hi Sand3! The usergroups actually are forum sections - think of them as optional forums that you can join (and therefore see and post to) or not, as you will. It's a bit different from the way most forums are set up, but it's easy once you know what to do.

To view all available usergroups, go here (http://www.abjds.com/forum/profile.php?do=editusergroups). Join a few of them, and then go to the "Your User Groups" forum (or click here (http://www.abjds.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=40)). You should see a list of forums, which correspond to the usergroups you've just joined. There's a usergroup called "BJD Creation and Sculpture" which will be just what you wanted, I think. :)

Things I like:
* 18+ age restriction
* overall maturity/friendliness of the posts I've come across
* smaller, more intimate environment
* rules don't seem as restrictive as some forums
* intuitively designed (it's easy to find the section I'm looking for)
* user groups are awesome
* skins are very pretty, and calming
* everyone just seems pretty laid back and easy-going :)

I can't make a list of what I don't like because so far everything is great~!

Sorry about the dreadful delay in getting this worked out, we've had a devil of a time going back and forth with tech support and more. I really love this site. At first I was very leery of it, because I thought oh, we don't need another doll forum, but I've now grown to visit it just as often as DoA, which is the only other doll forum I use on any sort of basis.

Things I really like about Resinality:

User Groups (I can read only the ones I am interested in and ignore the others ^^; )

OT Group (I seriously think this is the most wonderful thing ever because it gives us all a much broader picture of everyone else.)

The Discussions: I don't always agree with everyone else posting (of course) but I love being able to have intelligent conversations. I like that it's not strictly a debate, it's more an actual discussion.

I admit, I like the fact that a limited amount of discussion is allowed in News. ^^;;; I hated all the "wow those are GREAT" posts old DoA news use to get, but I like being able to have a little bit more discussion in the News thread before everything gets locked because sometimes you learn a little more about the event. ^^;

I thought this might be a good place to put a suggestion:
For the Group Memberships, is it possible to have check boxes instead of radio buttons? That way you can join/remove multiple groups at once.

Hmm, the way it's set up is the default way that VBulletin does it for joining usergroups. We'll see if there is some code hack that will allow us to do that then.

Actually, I didn't really warm up to the forum when I first joined in. I guess I'm pretty bred on the DoA style of forum where you could see all the boards at a glance. But I've heard about the security of the marketplace here and the tag system, so I'm trying to get used to this new style of forum. I'm still not too warmed up about this place. Maybe because I'm a sort of newbie everywhere ^^; Well, not in the sense that I know nothing about dolls, but more of like I'm not that warmed-up to the international community itself. But I give Resinality a thumbs-up for their hard work.

I absolutely love the forum...it makes me go "eh" :( whenever I check DoA because it's so much harder on the eyes, the posts are more inane, and call me biased, but I think all the pictures are MUCH prettier here!

I'm using the brown swirly layout, and I love the tags...I search for El a lot, and it annoys me at DoA that I can't when I really want to see pictures of him!

And being 18+...now THAT'S nice.

And the rice balls are awesome. Really great expressions!

Ahaha... I just joined yesterday, but ironically the only thing I've had trouble finding so far was this thread--because I wanted to tell you all what an absolutely amazing job you did with this forum.

It's... everything I ever dreamed of... :lol

There are so many wonderful aspects, of course... the 18+ being one of them. We all know why. :) But mostly, it's much easier to navigate, search for things, and it's very clean and organized. Serious kudos... the wiki, feedback, market value site, groups, tags, everything is just very well planned out and I'm sure with time (and as more people join) they'll all flesh out and fill up and just become the ultimate resources. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and I'm super excited about using the site~ :clap

(And the kao are so freaking cute that I just can't stop using them... must... restrain self...)

I like the fact that your server is up to the job so usually I don't have to wait for long periods in opening pages and navigating through the site. The folks who give advice are really helpful. I haven't progressed to using tags yet, and there's aspects of the profile and searches I could probably make better use of. One problem which I emailed mods about and never received an answer was that I would drop by after long break times away (busy in Real Life) and I would find out that I had lost all prior posting credits for marketplace access. It doesn't remember that I came by back in November, for instance, which is odd, and I wondered if there was omsething wrong with my profile or username or something of that sort. I'm trying to do better on maintaining a regular precence, because I like folks here, but Real Life can make that tough sometimes!

Love the site but I have a suggestion. The ABJD hobby is very closely linked to photography. I think having the type of camera and/or lenses users have should be an option in the user profile. That way if you love the photography of a certain user and want to know more about what equipment they are working with, you could simply pop over to their profile to get the details without bugging them through PMs.

This is actually a really awesome idea, thank you so much for suggesting it! :yey We've gone ahead and implemented it, and we'll post an announcement a bit later so that more people will be aware of it. :D In the meantime, you can see it in practice in my profile (http://www.abjds.com/forum/member.php?u=5) -- there's an entire tab devoted to 'Camera Info' and we added several questions. (I put random answers in for some of them just to show them.) You can edit your own camera info on the Edit Your Details (http://www.abjds.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile) page in your User CP. :)

Features we'd like you to check out and give us feedback on:

* The portal page at http://www.abjds.com
-really convenient
* Various themes we have installed for you to use! Please scroll to the bottom left of both the Portal and Forum to change the theme.
-cool hadn't noticed that!
* Your profile page! We've totally jazzed it up with new features
-pretty snazzy
* The Tag system! We are going to push for people to make more use out of this as it will make it far easier to search for things that DoA's system couldn't pull up before. (ex. searching for CP El)
-very helpful
* The Usergroup system! We are so excited about this!
-a little quiet but a great idea!
* The WIKI!!!! We finally got our own wiki!!!!
-sweeeeeeet :)

Overall I think this is one of the cooler forums I have been to online design wise-great job!

I came here when there were big problems over at DOA and I stayed here. This is a good forum. I like the tags and the front page. I don't mind not seeing the post count, it's less pressured that way I think. I had no problem finding mine when I was trying to make the minimum for MP.
I really like the groups feature and wish DOA would consider things like that, too. But maybe that's what makes here so neat!

I really like this site over DoA because I feel it is more friendly and there is more chatting. At DoA I'm afraid to post because they seem to have so many rules, do's and don'ts, and stuff. DoA is great for searching though. But I also have posted there and not gotten many replies when here I've gotten a lot more.

So thanks for being so friendly and welcoming!

I think this forum is really great! The sheer amount of features and options is amazing, and all of it is quite easy to understand and activate.

Most of all, I love the fact that we can speak so freely here, without worry of saying something "inappropriate" and thus getting banned. Plus I haven't yet seen that freedom abused on here (such as flame wars and spam). I really do appreciate that we can give honest opinions, and not just "positive comments only". Huzzah for constructive criticism!

My only complaint is that it seems a bit dead on here sometimes, but I attribute it to this forum simply being new, and a lot of people probably don't even know about it. I think once more people join and contribute content, this place will be that much more awesome. :)

I really like this site. When I ask questions I get answers! It's so cool!! :)

I don't know a lot about BJDs (and kind of prefer it that way - I just want to have fun with them), so it's really nice to be able to receive responses to my questions. I don't want to be an "expert" and don't really have the patience for "snotty self-proclaimed experts" so I really like the atmosphere on this forum where the focus is the dolls themselves rather than how much one knows about them.

I've seen better web sites. I'm new to this hobby. I do not generally have the resources to buy new dolls so I am looking for reasonably priced dolls in reasonable condition. I am not looking for "art dolls." I plan to handle my doll(s), sew for them and try the outfits on them. I was hoping to gain access to the Marketplace buy now I have to accumulate my 25 posts. Just today I read the whole "scammer" section - which was actually very informative for a rookie. So, now I guess I understand the minimum posting count - but a scammer will figure out a quick way around something like this, too. I do have my first BJD, a second-hand Volks Megu. And I can't even upload her picture, yet.

Our emoticons are based off of a very popular set online. I'm not sure exactly where they originate from but they might be from Japan. They aren't meant to look like pigs or any other animal in particular.

If you scroll to the very bottom of the page and look on the bottom left, you'll see a drop down box under the "Posting Rules" box. Click on the dropdown and you can chose the different themes we have installed for our members.

I like the layout of the whole thing, but the options to post seem...limited. There doesn't seem to be as many subforums as DoA and thus, less topics to discuss. I like that the databases have a pool of images, but (again in reference to DoA, sorry) I do enjoy having a doll linked to a user and users adding more info (such as name of doll character, wigs, eyes, faceup artist, etc)

I'm still getting used to this forum, it's laid back, but I'm a bit sad to see little activity.

nikita
06-30-2009, 08:23 PM
What options are limiting? As for the subforums, we purposely limited the number created because we didn't want to make the forum index look too bogged down. What we did was create usergroups that are more tailored towards member's interests. On top of that, only the usergroups you prefer will be shown in that subforum.

As far as activity, there is only so much we can do to drive interest! It's up to our members to remember that Resinality is here to serve them!

verbatim
06-30-2009, 09:19 PM
So far I like the forum-- it's a much smaller, intimate group of people rather than hundreds at a time, which can be a little overwhelming. I also like the fact that you can subscribe to specific forums, though I'm half tempted to subscribe to them all just to see some more activity.

I agree with Raesha in her(?) sentiments about the minimum post count to gain access to the marketplace. It wouldn't be a big deal if there was more activity, but it's taken me so long to get close (I'm at 22 now I believe?) because I don't want to senselessly spam posts. :(

nikita
06-30-2009, 10:34 PM
Even if there isn't a whole lot of activity in our Marketplace right now, the minimum post count does keep spammers/scammers from entering and trying to post.

Don't worry, you're getting there with your post count! Just start up some new topics!

verbatim
07-01-2009, 12:27 AM
Right, I completely understand the need for a substantial post count to access the market, deterring scammers is the best way to not have any at all. I finally got access today so all's well, it just took me a week or two. Thanks nikita.

The thing I like best about this site is the ability to subscribe to user groups. It makes finding threads of interest so much easier!

It took me some getting used to, figuring out how user groups affect the view of the forum etc but once I noticed that the groups I added were the ones that showed, I find that I really like that the experience is tailored to my preferences.

One suggestion (please direct me if there is a better place for it) is to use a ticky box instead of radial option for joining multiple groups at a time. Would that even be possible? It would have made things a lot more obvious when I was first figuring out how the forum worked.

The truth is, we really wanted it to be ticky boxes as well, and I spent ages when we were first setting up the forum trying to figure it out. But there's no easy way to do it that I could find and it's just beyond my capability with forum coding, sadly. :tantrum I tried looking around for a plugin or something written by someone else but couldn't find one either. :oops That said, someone may have written one since I last looked so I'll definitely give it another try and maybe I can find something! :nod

Yeah, it didn't seem like I would have been the first person to have thought of it! Since I'm pretty well settled now, it won't make a huge difference to me if it becomes an option or not but I think it would be nice for new members.

I'm pretty new to the site right now but so far I love it! I do agree with the ticky boxes thing for user groups, it would be useful to be able to join a couple groups at the same time!

I have only had one issue with the site so far, and that is that I can see the Australia user group but I never joined it xD... I looked on my user group memberships page and it's not on the list so I can't leave the group... it's not a huge issue it just makes me laugh a bit xD...

OTHER THAN THAT, I really do love the site. You've done a great job making it easy to use and efficient ^__^ I love the e-bay feed sooo much, and the site links! It's really great for when I'm away from my home computer and don't have access to all my favorites. I love the attitude here too. I feel like I don't have to be afraid to voice an opinion because I might hurt someone's feelings lol.

*giggles madly* Thank you SO much for pointing that out!! I've fixed it now so that you shouldn't see it anymore. :D Setting up the usergroups to each have their own sub-forum was a bit finicky... and there was a glitch that members of the Anthro BJDs group could also see the Australia forum, whoops! :XD (It can be difficult for us to easily test each and every one to make sure all the permissions are right! ;))

Thanks so much for the feedback, too. We all really wanted to make a relaxed, user-friendly environment as much as possible so it's wonderful to hear that it feels that way for people! Feel free to make the most of the site. :D I know we don't get a lot of activity, but if people feel they can relax here, then that's enough for me!

Hehe I'm glad my feedback was able to help out. It's all fixed now, I can no longer see the Australia group : '] Thanks a lot!

It's definetly more cozy being smaller and I really like the user group idea (now that I've figured it out!)

I registered a while ago to the site, but only recently really became active. I love the way you have the user groups set up (although it kind of took me a while to figure them out because I'm a dork, evidently and now that I have WOW, look, discussion!) and the ability to just subscribe/see the ones I have an interest in. It's a lovely level of control for the users.

I also like the classified set up in the marketplace and hope to see more activity from the community there as well.

My only question is (and I tried looking to see if I missed something, but alas, I am either blind or it is not there), is there any way to STOP from being auto subscribed to every thread I post too. I am more select/picky about what threads I subscribe too and am constantly having to go back and unsubscribe after a day or two of posting.

WHen you reply, use the topic reply button instead of the quick reply. Then scroll down below the message pane and you'l see a list of options for type of Notifications and what folder to put them in. Chose the Do not Subscribe option.

Everyone on this site is very helpful and I have been able to find so much information that I have needed. So far, I really enjoying this site.

And I'm glad to see that there are a lot of information on the various dealers and all in one convenient place.

It's really nice! The, err, format is really versatile and the themes are all cool looking! My only issue is that it's all a bit overwhelming, but I just joined, so it's probably a good thing that I think so - there'll be so much to see when I understand what I'm seeing! XD

at first all I heard was DoA and they been closed so I looked and found this site. I love it here people are so nice. I think sometime smaller forums are better as the big ones u just get lost. So I love it here and I am here to stay! great forums

I like that this sight has the introduction thread. As a male BJD collector it's easy to feel like the only boy in the crowd, but seeing everyone's real name suddenly had me as one of the boys. A boy with his dolls, what could be more natural?

It feels smaller than DoA, more slower paces I would say? I'm just not used to it yet but it seems like a cool community thus far.

As a newcomer to the bjd community, I am really enjoying Resinality.

I am still finding my way around and in reading posts from others in this thread just discovered the themes option. As a graphic/web designer I really appreciate the ability to customize my viewing experience.

No complaints so far. I do wish that the members were as active as I see they once were. There don't seem to be a lot of new posts. I do see a lot of viewing going on though. Looking forward to exploring and participating more!

I agree... (please no one take this the wrong way, I have really enjoyed the forum and by no means do I mean to offend) ... it seems to me that a lot of things are outdated. I have noticed that many threads are from 2007 (I assume that is when the forum was started). A lot of things in the Market Place are like this, and so, I do not know which are still active and relevant and which ones are now closed. Even in the classified ads, I saw one for face-ups and mods that I was interested in (she had a thread in the shop section and a classified ad) and I went to her profile and it seems that she hasn't even been on here since 2008 or 2009. So, yeah.... I wish people were more active.

Also, I can't find anyone to help me with a problem I have been having with uploading pictures to albums although I have pmed an admin and put up a thread in the question forum... so it seems that even admins are not that active anymore...

I like it here, I have not been approved at the other place so can't even search or look at pics so being here really helps. I have one major crit though - there's too much white - it's not environmentally sound.

Pretty cool. It's taking a while to get the hang of, but I like it. Someone actually responded to something I said in a discussion thread....that's pretty awesome.

I was glad to come back after a hiatus and find this place active again. At least somewhat active, anyway... I've always been shy about posting on DoA because there's just so many people. I have started to open up a bit in a smaller community, like this one.

I like the layout and it's easy to navigate, but perhaps some subforums for specific questions like modifications, doll types, etc? That way certain forums won't look so cluttered. :3

This site is the most ideal haven for people who love to interact with their fellow doll owners without the hassle of making the new members wait for their confirmations (no offense to DoA).

I really wish this forum was more active. Logging onto DOA is always fun, and I love how absolutely huge the forum is. I want to use this forum too, I really do, it just seems so stagnant. :(
