View Full Version : Threads older than Sept? Disappearing threads?

Hi there, I'm just wondering if I am crazy but it seems like the posts don't go back past September and I know at least one of my posts along with all the responses to it has disappeared. It doesn't even show up in my list of 'posts' any more.

End of question! Thanks

Hmm. The forum was only launched in Sept, and my first post from 8 Sept is still there. ?

The forum didn't open until September 9th, so no posts would have been made before that unless it was one of the mods who created it. XD

If it's the thread you started on "Putting your dolls to bed?" then that has been moved to the Games & RP usergroup- please join that to view it again. ^^

Yeah, if a thread gets moved to a group you don't belong to (hint: A "this group has started to exist" thread sticky would be grand, also for when things go into brand new groups!), the thread just seems to disappear. You have to join the group it went to, to see it again.

We keep a list of all current User groups in this thread here (http://www.abjds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48). We also leave any petition threads for usergroups that have been created in the subforum for a number of days afterwards and put "Created!" in the title to let people know it has been made.

Also, when we do move a thread to a usergroup, we do edit the redirect title to say which Group it's been moved into. ^^

OK I didn't see any edit, it just looked.... Gone... And I don't think I 'qualify' yet for access to where it was moved. Ah well. Thanks. It explains a lot :) I had no idea the forum had only been active since Sept. Just thought I was missing something about posts being culled for non-response etc.

Eh? But it's a usergroup. Anyone can join. There are no qualifications needed to join it. Unless it wasn't set up right and you can't join it....I know that happened with the Doll-us ex Machina group. But that was just an accident as far as I know. But if you go to the usergroup list you should be able to add the Games & RP group where the thread was put.

What seems to happen is that if a thread is moved to a group you're not part of, the thread even disappears from your list of subscribed threads, so you never get to see any redirection note. Happened a couple of days ago, when the games&RP group was new.

To some of us who are also pretty new here, we just find the list of groups in our CP and work from that. Once I joined that, I had the thread I'd been looking for show back up in my subscribed list!

It won't show in your subscribed threads list, but it will show in the forum it was originally posted in. I don't know if there's anyway we can make it remain visible in you user CP under subscribed threads as well, but I can check into it.

I've been trying to think about what's the best way to make people aware when new User Groups have been created, because I'm honestly not sure. We add them to the List of all User Groups (http://www.abjds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48), and we also edit the title of the petition for it to say "Created!" so that anyone checking out the petition will see it. That said, I realise that not everyone is going to go into the "User Groups Info" sub-forum unless they're looking for something specific (or specifically following a petition) so I can see how this isn't always helpful.

Do you guys have any suggestions to any ways we can further make it clear when new User Groups are added? I was initially a bit leery of making an announcement each time we added a User Group as I was worried about the idea of these overrunning the announcements sub-forum, but we can certainly give it a try if you think it will help. :)

Announcements might help. Then again, that's tedious for someone to keep track of. I'm not familiar with vBulletin... does it have an auto-announce or an auto-notify function/plugin?

How about just a sticky reminder in the announcements to check there for new user groups? It's quite a different setup than we're used to, and I bet just like I slipped right past it (because of doing everything in CP), others might not realize to check there for new groups.

It's funny, I've seen on the profile pages of other boards, that section to the right saying the person isn't a member of any group, and had no idea what the heck that was for! I think you guys are one of the few actually taking advantage of that function in vBulletin!
