View Full Version : What other skin colors would you like to see?

With more and more companies releasing 'Chocolate', 'Ebony' and other skintones, what skin tone would you most like to see released? Would you want it to be a standard option or just on special dolls like one-offs, ect.?
What do you want or expect from alternate skintones? Should they be more resistant to yellowing? Perhaps you'd like them better if they could be sanded?
Please, Tell me your thoughts on colored resins and new skintones!

I'm loving the skintones that companies are developing now. What I would like to see though is more facial features appropriate to the skintones. Iplehouse has done a great job with dolls like Cocori, but some dolls just look strange with their skintone and features. Like tan El, a gorgeous doll... he just looks like he went to the tanning salon too many times! :D
Okay, what to expect? No changing colors. Yellowing doesn't seem to be a super problem for tans, but uneven colors and bad tinting is a real issue. Everybody remembers the greened tan Dolkot Kiss. The dyes used to make the skintone NEED to hold up. That's more important, I think, than whether or not the doll can be sanded. What good is a sandable tan doll if it turns green? *_*

I think that hopefully we'll see more skin-colored tones in varying values. I think the odder colors would come last in their productions. Besides, I'd love to see more types of skin tones, since it adds life to a lot of dolls, I think, to have even slightly different skin than someone else's.

I would love to see more pinks, blues, and purples! I think it will happen over time as the popularity and fandom grows. I enjoy different tone of beige and white, for me matching resins in characters is not a priority.

I'd love to be able to get lots of different colored skintones on all standards, as my characters come in more colors than "peach skin" and "white skin". There are dolls that are the right mold but the wrong color and vice versa for certain characters, I'd love a more chocolatey DoT Shall or a light tan "sunlight skin" El. Colors that wouldn't be seen IRL would be nice too, like a gray-black for Drow elves or red for demon-kin. I'd be willing to pay extra for being able to choose more colors.
It would mean a lot for the color to be more than skin deep also, part of the reason I haven't gotten a tanned doll yet is I really dislike seam lines and as far as I know only Dollzone tans go all the way through the resin and are sandable. I'd be willing to pay extra for the ability to sand my dolls and not have to worry about the color coming off if the doll is scratched or chipped.
Basically I want even greater possibilities for customization and I think more and varied skintones is the next best step.
I, too, would like to see more dolls with features and skin other than Caucasion, and I wish they would be in sizes other than SD size, as well. I'm personally not into fantasy colors so much, but they definitely have their appeal.
Right now I would like to see the colors other than normal skin be less suseptable to discoloration. That's what's always given me pause when I've considered dark skin dolls in the past. I'm ok with normal skin yellowing over time, but I'd rather not have a tan doll turn bright green in the sun--especially since I like to take my dolls places. I won't own someone that I can't play with.
As for fantasy skin tones, I don't have any characters in mind that would need to be blue or green etc, but I love to see lots of variety being offered. I have a feeling that if companies could get stable colors, that there would definitely be a market for fantasy skin tones.

I would like to see different shades of natural colors. In urethane, we have white, light, tan, and dark. But there are more colors than those, and it'd be nice to have more of them to chose from.

Definitely more options so you can create more diverse looking dolls, but more importantly, advancements in resin that help hold whatever that original color is. I'm just dreading when mine start to yellow, because I hear complaints about it everywhere.

I'd love to see more fantasy colors... I still want to make my little drow girl.
I aggree that color should not change so quickly ::coughBambicrony::. Being able to sand them would be nice, but not something I am overly concerned with.
With regaurds to more basic colors, I'd love to see more companies with a skintone closer to the Volks Sunlight color. I LOVE that color, but I am not overly fond of the Volks headmolds. ::waits for bricks to be thrown::

I would like to see more weird colors like the pinks, grey, blue(A real blue, not like the bamb turquoiseish color), and so on and ones that weren't french resin/yellow if they blink a eye at the sun @_@;;

Honestly, I'd love to see more variation in the "natural" skintones. My minisupia's normal skin is very pale, while my Bambicrony's normal skin is several shades darker. It would be nice to have white, light peach, and dark peach as an option, instead of just white and whatever shade a company's "normal" skin happens to be.
It'd also be nice to see companies like Luts take a shot at having their skintones be more consistent.

Like Chiba said, consistenty in Luts skintones would be a big one for me. Especially in the tanned dolls. I've seen ones where their heads are quite a few shades lighter than their bodies and it really throws me off. It takes away from the realism of the dolls' look when they have a mismatching head and body. XD That alone made me buy a normal-skinned Lishe instead of the tanned one.

No bricks from me-- I'm in almost total agreement with you on this point. The Volks Sunlight is such a beautiful, warm color without looking artificial (no Fake-and-Bake orange like I've seen on Hound). It's not as much a problem of disliking Volks headmolds for me (though I only like a handful of them), it's a problem of availability.
It'd also be nice to see companies like Luts take a shot at having their skintones be more consistent.
Agreed. While I have fun with the Beauty Greens, or the wild variations in Luts NS-- Alexis's Lishe head is an ivory color, while Osaka's Valletta is very pink-- it would be nice to get bodies and heads at different times without taking a gamble on getting them to match.
I wouldn't mind seeing sandable skintones beyond the standard resins. It's not something I need, but I'm paranoid, and I'd like to be able to sand such a doll if I needed to. :sweat Definitely more ethnic-looking headsculpts to "match" the skintones, as well.

I'd love to see Volks release their Pureskin Ebony as an option for the Full Choice System. I have a character in mind who is darker skin, since she is a latin-asian mix. Im definitely waiting for the day to order a Pureskin Ebony F-34 girl.
Aside from Pureskin Ebony, I think that the only possible skintone I'd look forward to would be a more yellow-tan skintone, similar to a tanned asian or Southeast Asian complexion. I would like to order a F-29 in this color. I think the production of different skintone colors would be much easier than say, trying to perfect skintones so dolls can be easily dyed or resistant to yellowing.

Personally, I'd like more fantasy colors and more shades of tan. I'd really like if the colors were more stable and sandable.
I'd be overjoyed if there were at least one or two standard colors that everyone sold that matched all the others, but that's highly unlikely! :p

I love the BC shades they released with the Kumi's Roko's etc. I think though overall the colours are out there but they need to work on the stability of the colour through the whole doll as well as the longevity of colour (lots of stories about how quickly the colours are changing on those Misty Blues and Slate Greys).
I think though, a few companies are testing different colours but they just don't have the long tried and true methodology that theyve got down pat for the NS. Even WS or Tanned have issues as evidenced by some comments on say Lut's beauty green, or the green Dollkots and whatnot.
The tricky part is the chemistry of the colours and getting it just right. I'd love to see more of the misty blue and the white blue skinned dolls if they can get the colour to be stable. The slate grey was also pretty as well :)

Oh one thing I forgot about that I've always wanted to see - a well done dark elf skintone. Not BLUE skin, but the dark gray-blue or gray-purple tone you see in drow artwork.
I know there are people that dye them, but I don't trust that enough to risk it on a $500 plus doll.

I think the BC slate gray color is too purple for drow in my personal opinion, the BC color is more of a plum color (at least, the one's I've seen, RL and internet wise)
Which, someone also mentioned something about the Volks Tan- I also agree- the only skin color that is similar if not almost the same is the Angel Region Natural Tan and some other company who's name's escaped me at the moment.

I like fantasy colors (I've got the Misty Blue and Light Slate Gray Bambicronys--mostly because of their colors!). A true Drow elf color would be fantastic! (very dark--like charcoal gray/black).
But as others have mentioned, the technology really needs to be improved for colored resin. My Bambicronys haven't shifted much, but they probably will--and there have been problems with their tanned dolls--mostly with bad mixing, I think, and sanding that shows up on colored resin. I think the quality needs to be VERY high for dolls that cost hundreds of dollars! They shouldn't have problems out of the box, or even after a year or two. I've been wary of tanned skin tones because of sanding problems. I bought my Bambicronys before I was aware of the problems with them--and will try to avoid French resin and color issues in the future.

I would love to see darker tans and just more of a variety of natural colors in general, preferably available as a standard option rather than just super limited. And if they could be sanded that would be even better yet.
I would also love to see a MUSCULAR dark chocolate (i.e. African) type large boy doll. Iplehouse Aaron was a nice head sculpt, but the body was skinny. Would have liked to see him on a ripped body.
In general, I just think all the available dolls are far too white. It's bizarre, especially since play dolls in the US are tending to offer more tan and dark skin tones.

Yeah the IH skintones are lovely (though all their tanned and dark skinned dolls have issues with sanding :()
As for the white dollies it may be a throwback on the old asian aethetic. I still get told by all the old aunties and uncles how beautiful my skin is because it's so white >.< a lot of asian women for example bleach their skin to make it paler.

I'd mainly like to see the current tan/fantasy colors be more stable and sandable..and when that's fixed, I wouldn't say no to a lilac doll, like that lilac artist doll Kaye made :D Or a very light beige tan that's close to the tan Middle Eastern people have..translucent resin would be awesome but I shudder at the thought of how quick it would yellow +_+

I want a dark olive green dollie. I saw some resin casting supplies at a local store recently and one of the bobbles they had was cast in a clear/translucent dark olive green color. I was like "Hey I want a doll that color!". Of course it would have to have elf ears or why bother! XD
*edit* and I second/third/etc the call for dark grey-black and the like. Anything weird and not just pink and purple (yuk!)

I think the Bambicrony's are completely adorable in all their variation but as far as realistic skin tones go I feel differently. I hate the idea of having to match resins across companies, but it makes sense, not all caucasians have the same skin tone, so not all dolls should right? But if I have a Luts body, it should match any luts head that's the same 'color'.
I'd like to see dolls come in varieties that all people do- Black, Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern. With facial features that match. You can't make a doll black and just call it black, Black people have completely different features than other races.
And I also believe that they should be sandable!

Stability is definitely the #1 problem I have with different coloured dolls. I'm a mod-freak, so not being able to sand or mod my dolls would just make me hate them. It also makes them more prone to scratching and a ton of other problems that I'd rather not have to deal with.
Personally, I have little use for odd-coloured dolls in my own personal collection, but I might consider it if I knew it could stand up to all of the fun things I'd want to do it it ^_^;;

Like many have expressed here, I want the resin colours to be in the resin so they can be sanded. I want them to be relatively sun-resistant (as in not turning green after being in the sun for 10 minutes, not serious intense exposure over months and months).
I want a sculpt to have different skintone offerings - from an actual Asian yellow (for those who have developed Asian characters) to a milk chocolate and darker, to a few shades of white and everything in-between. I would love a skintone range that would be equivalent to the myriad shades we have on this planet. The planet's skintones are awesome!
I would also like the option to have good fantasy skintone offerings to a sculpt. It would be great to be able to purchase a pale blue Husky and turn him into an alien or fey easily. I wish Dollshe had pointed ears as an option - but that's another thread entirely! *laughs*
I just want it all! :yey I want as many options as possible. That way, people can start with the perfect base for their character, without having to mod as much. I like being able to play with my guys right out of the box, not having to mod them for months before I get them where I want them.

I like variety in skintones, and I like that many companies are making different shades of tan skin recently. I would love to see a doll with very dark, nearly black skin. (Something like this. (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/letiziacarlisle/nuket2/verena1.jpg))
I'm also wishing for a beautiful ~60cm girl with blue or maybe green skin. Some sort of 'alien' color, though I don't wish the sculpt to look like 'alien'.
Overall, like everyone else, I wish the colours to be more stable. I own tanned dolls, and I'm a bit concerned how they will look like after many years, even though I'm careful not to scratch them or expose them to direct sunlight.

As far as skin tones go, i would love delicately freckled skin to come in a matching rich, warm skin tone.
Maybe one not so warm either, like a cool ivory. Maybe a lovely light olive greek undertone, or perhaps even a light asian skin tone (not peachy pink or orange cream or sallow yellow)
I dont think id want to see a difference in type of skin texture though X3
I'm hoping "snow" or "white" skin will turn into a nice pale ivory shade so that dolls alongside each other appear substantially fairer than the lighter normal skin tones or even another, somewhat pale-but-alive-ill than outright ghostly and unnaturally sickly. And in addition maybe a lovely albino white?
That's pretty much the set of diverse colours that would appeal to me. Other than that, i would expect a consistent batch tone unlike the erratic results yielded by CP and sunk all the way through. The tone would disperse evenly, all the way through and not become several different sanded shades after modding, nor weak like some tanning dolls out there.. or the infamous Dolkot body problems. And of course, assuming the tones match the concerning sculpts actually match> >; Anyway, i just went off topic. Apologies.
But while i'm at it- maybe a variation the sculpt pee pees we see going round, maybe a little more of a bump in the scrotum? Don't get me wrong, i dont peer at them all that often, but i'd like to know my anatomically correct boy has all his bits in place.

I too would love to see the drow colour too, infact - i'd really love to see a wide range of colours (although to be perfectly honest I prefer my resin colours natural! Its just nice to see what people can do!) The thing that irritates me is the sanding and the discolouration over time. A good friend of mine has a bambicrony kumi (the grape colour) and although she's been kept out of the sun 99.9% of the time, her colours have really faded on her legs considerably, which is really unfortunate. I seem to recall a case with a dollkot sunberry kiss that had some real problems with discolouration which makes me dubious about ordering diverse colours - I can't imagine how horrified i'd be if my doll went bright green in the sun. I really like luts dolls but I really hate the green tinge they have to their white resin. A really pure white would be wonderful!

Like everyone else I'd rather if they focused on getting the resin to keep its color before moving on to other skintones. That and have the darker dolls sandable.
As for skin tones, I would love colors other than the pale white, pinky white and yellow white that seems so common. I would die for a female, 60cm ranged doll with a mocha colored skin tone. Most tans are very orangy and I'd much rather a more muted tan. Like a spanish or south american skin tone. Golden beige tones are nice too. and like others have said, actual asian skin tones. yellow based browns and beiges rather than orangy or red based beiges. another I would love is a Mediterranean color. That pretty skintone that greek and italian people have. Fantasy colours would be fun too but for now I'd just like to see variants of ethnic skin.
I'm a sucker for coloured people! :kisses

I would like to see more variety of natural skin colors, especially pale pink. I like the white colors, but they're too... white... It's not really natural to me. I wish there was pale, pale skin with just a little bit or pink or peach. The dark chocolate brown and caramel colors we're seeing more and more of now is really nice, too :3
For purely selfish reasons, I want one specific doll company to develop a pale blue colour that will not turn green >.> I tried the Bambicrony blue and was rather underamused at the fact that it turned an unattractive shade of green in less than 2 weeks.
Other than that, instead of new skin colours, I'd like to see more companies develop consistency in their colouring. So far it seems like only Volks is capable of this.

Okay, aside from more quality color blending and tinting, I'd like to see a lot more versatility in the skin color scale, both fantasy and natural. Any shade of tan, from the lightest to a full ebony. And the fact that although most of the dolls are designed and manufactured in Asia, there's hardly any company that has come out with any representation of oriental skincolor.
I've been thinking about dyeing/airbrushing another skincolor on a doll, but the work and maintenance involved makes the process rather unattractive to me. It would be awesome to be able to buy dolls in different skintones straight from companies and not have them yellow/discolor or get in any other sticky messes. :dead

VF, I'm like you, I really love the "non-human" skin colors, like blues, greens etc. Some pinks just look boiled to me, but I wouldn't mind a red.
My first inclination was blue, which sort of surprised myself... I think it would also be really cool if companies started playing around with different tones of actual human flesh. I just love the fact they we're starting to see more dark skintones. :heart
I also wouldn't be adverse to something like... a really dark charcoal/black. Puts me in mind of drows and such. :p

I think while I'm not entirely fond of fantasy colored dolls in general but I would adore some willowy girl in an nice pale grassy or minty skintone. I would absolutely ADORE a nice strong wood nymph.
and also strangely I would love a white doll.... not thesuper pale skintone white that is out in most companies, but a white white....
but I suppose those are the only exceptions for the fantasy colors
but I would love to see a pinker pale, some companies (Luts is an example) pale skintones are too yellow for my preferance
and a tan skintone that is a medium tan and not a full blown "I've been baking for the last week" tan would be lovely

I'm pretty happy with the basic set of skin colors myself. I'm a really pale Caucasian girl myself, so I like pretty pale dolls. If anything, I'd like something inbetween "normal" and "suntan" because suntan doesn't look like a doll with a tan to me, more like someone with dark skin AND a tan. I'd like a lightly tanned doll.

Mmmn...more variations on natural skintones, preferably with more consistency across the companies(am I the only one who really likes faces but has a hard time liking the bodies, or vice versa? I've a thing about some of the necks/shoulders on a lot of the boy sculpts that create some serious mental dissonance for me).
Or an honest to goodness black, or a grey/blue that is freakin' close, with enough "light" in it to show some highlights.

I'm not interested in any other skin tone but natural for human dolls, but I desperately want a gray Heero, as in Russian Blue or Korat gray. A cream-colored (or ivory, like Bao) Baha/Heero would look nice as well, and be a good base skintone for tabby-stripe or tortoiseshell-spot paint jobs. I don't care if it can be sanded or not, since I tend not to want significant mods or care much about seams.

i think there are many shades of golden brown they can explore to make it look more realistic too :3 some browns just strike me as a little too orangey ^^;

I love the look of a lot of the dolls out there with fantasy resin colours. I noticed though with the tan option that some just don't look right for being cast in a different skintone because the features are more or less caucasian, but the skintone screams otherwise. I love the variety of skintones offered by Bobobie, but not all of their sculpts... well not yet anyway. :) One thing I can't get over is how ghostly white their white skin is. It is litterally the whitest white skin i've ever encountered in my life!

pretty much all the skintones out are very pink or orange... basicly bery warm toned....
but there are people who are have cool toned peach or olive or brown or what have you skin....
I guess I want cool toned skin, without making them look fake... like too blue or too green
and also. something in between "normal" and "tan" would make me extrordinarily happy.... most tan dolls looked overbaked to me, and they're really hard to make a faceup look right on....

Aruri, the Narin Golden Beige is a very nice skintone. It has the olive qualities that you mention.
Also the Supia tan is a very nice cool tan color, not a strange orangey tan.

this may sound a little silly...but I want a Sunshine Yellow (and no worries if she yellows...as she will already be yellow ^_^ ) Tiny...I think I'll end up making one for myself...after the Yellow Ted I did for AA on DoA...it just really got to me how cute that color was ^_^
or maybe a Pumpkin Orange ^_^

I'm looking forward to Glorydoll's grey-blue zombie skin option which they are releasing soon! Sounds like fun... 8D
Tans are okay, but it annoys me that a lot of darker resins are too opaque. It gives the features a wooden look even with a decent faceup, unlike the translucent and lively effect on a normal skin resin. I might be interested in a darker resin that successfully mimicked the way real skin reflects light - you know, a dark-skinned person has lovely warm shadows on their flesh but it can't be captured in plastic. That may not be possible, however, as light obviously isn't going to be able to go through dark resin as well as it does through pale resin. And even if they managed to make it do so, I'll bet the doll will yellow/discolor rapidly. :P
Oh well, c'est la vie. I'm not dying for a particular color of doll, so I wait to see how the color experiments proceed. There may be something new that catches my fancy.

a white-ish blue would be neat to see, kind of like a ghostly doll.

I'd like to see more fantasy colors such as Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Purple, etc.
I'd also like to see some in between normal skintones such as actual tanned skin. The tanned skin that I've seen on the BJD websites is too dark to be tan. How about some Hispanic skins!!

Grey skin for sure! After seeing DoD's Delphine and Kalix... I'd love to see more dolls like that~

I would love to see transparent resin dolls. Like the Soom fairy parts on their Topaz, but the whole doll, with a coloured cast to the resin, like transparent blue or green or amber coloured like Topaz. I doubt there would be a large market for them though, and the novelty would wear off very quickly, so I suppose I will never see such a doll. :damnit

Grey would be really cool. Once DOD released limited ones with grey skintone. And one of Soom's monthly dolls had sparkly purple skintone. Bute they were all limited ones. I hope to see 'normal released' with cool skintones.

Personally, I would love to see along with more vampiric skin colors I would love to see more greys, grey-blues, green and red.
I don't know why but I think those skin tones would be cool.

I'd really like to see grey skin from Bobobie. They have one that looks pretty grey in pics, but is actually purple, and a new one that they're calling grey but looks more like a regular pallor skin tone. I want a nice true grey...like this:http://www.thebeanbagchairoutlet.com/images/us_grey.jpg

A few natural skin tones would be enough for me, because I prefer a natural look of the doll. Natural look lets making more variations of the rest of the doll's appearance.
