I've had Kaito with me for almost 2 years and Taku for 1 year. And i don't see a third dollie coming soon.

Two boys are enough to keep me happy & contented :)

I had 2 until about a month ago. I had wanted the SD13G Yuri for a bit. I went ahead and picked her up and am so glad I did. This past weekend at A-Kon in Dallas I saw many people with 3 and several with 6 at the con. I donft think any of my original ideas about quantity apply anymore. If I like the sculpt and can afford it I am just going to take the plunge. This idea may change when there are 12 of them around the house.:)

I would actually be happy with a small collection, but I don't have the heart to part with any of my crew right now.

I think dolls are an addiction..once u have one, u'll somehow be tempted to expend the collection..I started with only one..just to know how it feels like to own one..then I started having 2 and 3 and now I'm still looking for another boy and girl..

I don't mind a big family(i wish i could afford that!..lolz.) But I guess with the amount of cash and time, too big of a family means some will get neglected..

I just got my first BJD, and as he's based on a character from a (rough draft) novel of mine, I will eventually have to get his best friend as well ^^;. And possibly another character from the same story, because I'd like to have a girl, too.

I honestly want to keep my collection small, as this is an added hobby and not my only one . . . but I'm definitely a collector at heart, and I'd also like to own an MSD or two. Plus I have a couple of other characters from a different story done up in 1/6th versions, and there are other potential characters there as well on that scale . . .

I just don't want to get too carried away, because 1. I always do and 2. I want to be able to keep the dolls I do have in outfits, wigs and eyes, etc.

I have 23 SD size resin dolls and love every single one of them. I have yet to sell a doll. I seem to buy my dolls to keep. I came from a large family of eleven and that maybe part of the reason I like to keep so much company.

Not all of my dolls are in are my album yet, but they will be. My computer caught a virus so I lost many of my pics so I am rebuilding my photo file.

I have heard the people say that they couldn't give enought attention to more than two dolls and those same people now have four of five dolls. I love dolls and I play with each and every one of them. Growing up in a large family we shared everything and so do my dolls. Dolls are meant to be played with and enjoyed and I do both with mine.

I have one doll at home, a floating head on the way and I'm saving up for the body. After the second doll is completed, I won't be financially able to save up for any more or have the energy to try and mod anymore dolls by myself.

Unless I become financially stable to support myself, another doll and all the stuff I wish to do with it, I can't see myself with anymore right now.

While my wife and I don't have any BJDs yet, (we're new to the hobby) her plan is to get one and she will be happy with that. Me I know the truth she gets one and then decides it's lonely and buys another, and then finds a good deal on the third and before I know it there are more than a few in our house. I've been in the collectible business for 25 years and saw it when she was into other collectibles. If you start a hobby and like it then it progresses and you expand the collection. I do the same thing with my collections. As long as there are new items coming out there is more to add to the collection. Could anyone be happy with one doll? Yes, but tastes change and sometimes you can't stop at one. Since I am more familiar with pachinko machines (another Japanese import) I will use them as examples. I started off with 1 machine in 1972, that was fine until 2005, then I found a neglected one at a swap meet, I bought it, cleaned it up and played with it, then I found 4 more, and more and more, suddenly I had almost 40 machines. I didn't start out wanting 40 machines, but it happens. I'm sure dolls work the same way. You don't intend to buy that many it just happens.

Well, there's fourteen home, two on layaway, one coming in a clothing trade and plans for several more. But they aren't all mine, I swear! My husband now owns more than I do; he even has the only Volks. He's been a toy collector since he was a child, and so have I. We have elaborate storylines for our characters, and can adlib their dialog at a moments notice; it's a creative household...

Well, I have only one doll for now. I know that at one point I want to get him a girlfriend and maybe down the road a little brother. And maybe a SD someday. So I couldn't see myself ever having more than 4. But I may limit myself to only 3. My husband says it will be a long time before I can get my girl. I want to just have a few dolls so I can spoil them with a lot of clothes and accessories.

I am a small-family person. I adore ABJD but I dont necessarily feel the urge to own every beauty I cast my eyes upon. The dolls in my sig will probably constitute my complete collection, once I own them. For me it's a matter of moderation... I tend to become completely obsessed when I get into something, and so must be very careful about keeping myself under control. Particularily when a doll collection can add up to the cost of a down payment on a home. =T^T= I am young yet and would like to reserve some money for the more essential things in life.

I also have a special love for admiring the dolls other people own. Its like having somebody else's kids over for a visit... Sometimes you just think 'They're wonderful and I love 'em, but I like how they go home at the end of the day'. *L* I find I appreciate other people's dolls and am happy to see them again because I don't hang out with them every day. I like that relationship.

I must like SDs, I guess I have a large collection, I just counted. I have 13 large (SD 10, 13), 3 mini and 9 tinies. I also placed an order for another mini. I originally planned to get a total of 4, just a girl and boy in SD10 and 13 size. I have sold 2 over the years, an original SD10 body (I kept the Megu head) and a tiny Lati.

I'm sort of a "small collection" type person, I'd rather spend less on the dolls and put more into the clothing, accessories, furniture, etc.

I'm happy with 'a few'- or a smaller doll family. However, it's quite hard keeping ones collection 'small' as new dolls are constantly being released. With that being said- I have 8 dolls myself (7 SDs, 1 MSD) and I never planned getting this many! ><

OK...this is the deal. I originally purchased my Custom House S'ram and wanted nothing else. He was my buddy, my little guy. Kept me company sitting on my desk while I worked. BUT...he was lonely and he had to have a mate, so I bought a Custom House Choa. They were perfect together. They were happy, I was happy...I thought. Then, I checked out Soom and fell in love with their Gina with her dark gothic face up. She arrived shortly thereafter. OK, so now the couple had a best friend. I spent thousands on clothes, shoes, furniture, real jewelry (Gina has pierced ears with 1/4 carat diamonds in them), and other miniature props for them to enjoy. BUT wait...Dollmore enticed me with their line of Model dolls...so tall and lean and elegant...I had to...no I can't...YES, you can. Ipsae, Mellow, welcome home. Then I purchased another Model doll body and placed the Soom Gina head on it. Damn they are beautiful !!! THAT's IT !!! No more BJD's for me !!! OH NO, crap !!! Why did I go back to SOOM ??? The Mecha Angels, 80cm...the biggest dolls thus far. I agonized about spending another grand on a doll. But Deneb kept call to me, haunting my dreams. I blew off a vacation to see my family in Ga. so I could purchase her. Now, here she sits, powerful, square jawed and androgenous as hell (she looks like Brooke Shields in too much make-up...a bit like a tranny), the queen of all BJD's. She TOWERS over all the others, can wear none of their clothes, and has me rushing home from work just to be with her...well, for now........

I have 8 now (2 floating heads included) and twice as much planned. I'm sure now I have my own limit - "too many dolls" - somewhere around 30 and I hope I can keep myself from exceeding it 'cos I can't imagine parting with any of my dolls.
They are characters of the same (original) story, so no one can leave without story suffering.

I'm already starting to feel I can't give them all as much attention as I'd like, but I think it has more to do with a lot of deadlines in the end of the year then with growing numbers. Well, in month or two I'll know for sure - the rush will be over, and I'll have more dolls. ^_^ Of course I don't have time to make clothes for them (our dolls wear only clothes made by us), but this will not always be so - any doll needs a lot of things in the beginning, and then I'll be only adding some. Besides, the more dolls I have, the more they can swap clothes.

Beside these purely technical (not emotional or psychological) points I don't really see any trouble with "lot of dolls" for me. till I don't feel it's more I can handle - it isn't. They are all unique - each of them - and dear to me. But I buy dolls on a strange principle, may be - I know, what characters my story need and I'm looking for a dolls that can represent them well. (Of course, if I'm madly in love with a doll, I can pull it through, but it still stops me from rush buying, as I don't want to spoil a good story and don't want ANY non-story doll either.)

So... basically, i'm happy with a big team and look forward to make it bigger. But not infinitely.

i also get overwhelmed when i have too many, this year was a major acquire-year for me, i bought 6 dolls and so had 8 dolls. it might be that later i will be ok with that number or even something around 15, i don't know for sure, but as it was now i was overwhelmed simply because it all happened too fast. i realized that if i buy dolls in such a succession i have no time to bond with each individual one and it gets too much. i sold two of the 6 i bought this year so my family is now back to 6 members and that feels nice for now.
one of those 6 i am even thinking to sell as well as i haven't bonded with her too well, and i have a small wishlist. i know that i will want more dolls because there are so many new ones released. for now i am happy with my 6, and i have only one other doll that i really "must have" and that is an enchanted doll (porcelain by Marina Bychkova).

I have 12 dolls (one floating head included) and I fell I really don't "need" more dolls. When I see new molds of course I like them, but no more dolls at home, please, because I just fell I don't enjoy a high number of dolls.

I thought I would have only one or few. But with pullip dolls I noticed I have habit of getting many, so I have never hold back because of the amoount of my dolls. I have a large collection I think, or at least more than ppl usually have. Some ppl have said bad things about me because I have many but I think they're just jealous. I have done lot work for my dears and had to decide between many things and I think I have right to own every single one of them. ^____^

I have 32 atm, 3 are heads of them I think.

I have had one doll for a year and thought about my next doll for months. I'm hoping that two will be a magic number and I won't want anymore. But I'm already contemplating number three in a different size. :tantrum

I collect many types of dolls, though, so I think it's different for me. I don't have characters or stories either, so it's not like I am thinking of how to further develop a story. My dolls are solely for redressing, posing, etc. and my joy comes from buying wigs, shoes and clothes. I like to redress once a month and with too many dolls that would be too hard. :heart

Well, my first hasn't arrived yet but I guess I'd probably have at least one 70cm, two sd's/sd13's, two mini's and a tiny or two, all summing up to seven if finances and the heavens would allow it. If not, I guess three is fine with me but they'd all be female dolls(mother and daughters and I'd bet my favorite pair of Nike's they'd be twins). I might actually get a male doll if I could. :D

At present, I have the smallest number of BJDs one may have and still say there are any. There's an MSD girl living on a shelf in my sewing room, and that's it. She's spoiled and pampered, I build her furniture, books, a tiny computer, a soft bed with silk sheets (really, that has more to do with the fact that the one scarf I had lying around happened to be silk) ... never mind the massive wardrobe, all in silk and linen and antique ribbons. There are plans to get an MSD boy to keep her company for all the hours and hours I spend at work (there always was, even before she was ordered -- I had to decide which to get first, and she won), but at present he's not even ordered yet, and he's going to have to be my last for a while, until after various things in regular life slow down, and we can get a bigger place. Yes, eventually I'd like to have a pair of SD sized dolls, but I'm also not in any rush. If just having this one alone can make me happy, then I don't think that a huge pile of them will really be necessary.

Wow I never really thought about it it is interesting the way the collecting quickly gets out of hand. I began with the notion that I just wanted a single doll but every year or so I would buy another one until I had 5 dolls. Non of them recieved much attention. Now that I am older and more interested in finishing projects I've begun thinning my collection significantly.

I realised that I want to put as much focus as possible on one doll. My project doll. Right now I don't want anymore until he is finished. (But I still look...nose pressed to the glass like a kid outside a candy store!)

at first... I wanted sooo many dolls that I liked.. But right now? I'm very content and happy with my two incoming dolls (Soom Amber and Soom Glati)... I'll be looking for my third as well (hopefully another Soom so she doesn't look to weird against the other two), and then I'll feel like my little 'family' will be complete with no need of anyone else (Unless its another Soom Tiny... @ 3@ Baby!Heliot, Baby!Onyx, and Baby!Amber... oh noes~!)

Personally, I prefer a "few", but I want a "few" in each size :dance

My short-term collecting goal is two MSD and one Yo-SD as far as sizes go which will be achieved in about a month. I think I will stick with that for at least a year unless I add a Lati Yellow which is actually a newer "must-have". But, generally speaking, I usually "fantasize" about a doll for at least six months before I take the plunge. I only want to buy dolls I am pretty sure I will keep. That said, I think it is possible for tastes to change and evolve the longer someone collects dolls. So, anything is possible. I may want a "few" now but that doesn't mean my definition of "few" will always remain the same. :heart

I have plans for six and think that's a lot. Even though doll collecting has been part of my life for a long time, I personally have a hang-up about accumulation. I can't stand to see "stuff" taking over my life so I will probably never own more than those six. If I fall in love with an additional head-sculpt then it will have to fit one of my existing bodies :P

cinnacinna25
05-13-2009, 01:58 PM
I also prefer a "few" because my experience is that I don't have enought time to handle a bigger doll family. I have many other dolls, and I see that I can play with only 1 or two, my favs. And the others are a bit neglected. So I plan to buy 1 more bjd, than I will have 3. That's more than enough for me for a while (next years).:)

its interesting to read how people only plan to own a few and somehow end up with 10+. i cant imagine myself with 10+ bjds. i am currently planning to get my first bjd this summer and i think having him by himself is quite lonely so i do have a 2nd and possibly a 3rd planned as well. but it takes me a long time before i can decide on a doll... i am in love with AS Gavin but he's sold out already. but ultimately i think i am aiming to stop at 5-6. any more than that would just overwhelm me. at the pace i am going, i think the most i can manage is around 1-2 dolls a year...

I am definitely in the throes of ABJD obsession. I have a large doll family with more on the way. When the dolls that I have ordered arrive I will have 17 dolls plus 6 heads. This whole BJD doll thing is a perfect storm of what I consider collecting art and creating art.

I think I got up to ten at one point but they were constantly changing. I like having a few bjd that I really love. I have had the larger SD size but don't play with them and that seems a waste. They are gorgeous but every doll should have play time so I tend to keep the ones that I will actually spend time with. Narae is one of my favorites that will always be here.

this is a bit of a late reply, but as of now i want a very small collection. two, three dolls at the most. the dolls i want are always changing (i don't quite have one yet) but the number always stays the same. i feel like i wouldn't be able to keep up with a large collection as far as clothes & accessories go. i mean, i don't even have a job so i can't even buy one, much less a whole lot XD

I am very happy with just a few (I have 3). However, I think this is mostly due to the fact that I have one of my dream dolls in my possession.

When I got my 'first' doll I really just bought her on impulse. Unsatisfied with her, I kept looking to expand my doll family. I continued to look at other dolls and want them more, she just wasn't what I wanted. About 7 or so months after her purchase, I found someone on DoA selling the head I wanted. This is the head I went to the store to get the first time, but since it was not in stock I got the one I did. I struck a partial trade with the seller, and ever since this head came home to me, I've bonded with it more and more.
I'm so satisfied and thrilled to have her that I just feel a "completeness" to my doll family. :)

I have two, and at some point, it's pretty enough. One of the reasons why I bought them was because I wanted to have a human-like dolls to model clothes for them. Now, having a girl and a boy, I am quite satisfying this need.
There are some beautiful dolls though, and I'm thinking of buying maybe one or two, but somewhere in the very far future, when I have more money :) but on other hand, the more you get the more you want, so why not to have just a few and devote all your time to those very few but selected ones?

I have (and want) a large collection of large dolls.
It's not that I don't love the dolls I have at home, because I love them all and I could never sell any of them.

But I have a lot of inspiration for more characters, and I have a story in my mind that I want to work out with my bjd's.
And they are all related to eachother in one kind. Most of my dolls are sisters, twins, lovers... And they will also be in groups (sort of dark side vs good side and also a neutral side).

And I try to give them all equal attention too. :)

I realize that I have already a lot of dolls in my room right now, but to me it feels right to have them all (and more in future). :)

I have none at the moment, but have plans for two, a 60cm boy and a 60cm girl. The girl will be first because I'm really excited about making clothes for her. I'm open to getting more, I have at least two others from the same story as the boy and girl and three characters from a different story that I wouldn't mind having someday. I also have this dream of making Ophelia, I have fun thinking about how I'd make her, but she'd likely be just a floating head that I could attach to an already existing body. So anyway, only two planned at the moment, but I am very much open to more.

The idea of owning more does scare me though. I'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to what I own, I don't like nik-naks cluttering up my space, and I don't want to ever be a slave to the idea of owning something just to own it. So the dolls I purchase will have to really mean something to me from the moment I see them online if they want to come home with me. And if I ever start to resent them for the money and time I spend on them, they'll be gone.

I currently have 9 and could slowly add a few more in the next few years. Originally I only wanted 2-a boy and a girl. But plans change and opportunities show up. I was not expecting Volks to re-release Kurumi but I could not miss her again so I got her. And when my fall tour of Japan got canceled I went to the Tokyo Disneyland Event instead and came back with two tinies.

But I enjoy having the number of dolls I have. I'm constantly working on them and don't view any of them as "complete." There will always be new wigs and eyes and clothes and face ups to try. My dolls of the same size all share their clothes and eyes and wigs though.

Well, I have a plan of sorts. I want one doll of each size (puki, yo, msd, sd) and then I'll focus on their rooms, clothing, wigs, etc.

Then I'll be done and just enjoy them. I won't want any more dolls beyond that.

I currently have 13 complete dolls plus a couple of disembodied heads. That was never actually planned; the "family" just gradually grew over time. Now I have the baby to occupy most of my time however, I don't see it growing at the rate it has done over the past three years. I want to get Lysande (my modded Vamp Elf Yder) his own body, and I'm thinking about upgrading Ayame's character (the other disembodied head) to a Domuya Fin at some point, but there's no specific timeline in mind - just an "at some point".

Having a large group makes for more interesting photostories, but then again with the baby taking up the majority of my time, I'm pretty much on hiatus from the stories anyway, so there'll be less impetus to add new characters to the cast.

Heh, looking back at my earlier post, I must admit I have to laugh. Some plans got put on the backburner, and some dolls left the tribe - but I certainly didn't stop in quite the way I thought I would! The "baby" is now a 2-year-old who has her favourites amongst my dolls - neither of which was here when I made that post!

Since then, I've let a few dolls go - but others have come to take their place. Overall the numbers have stayed fairly stable; there's only one head I parted with that I still bitterly regret - and I'm determined to correct that - but otherwise, I think they've reached the "stable point".

As Brightfires said earlier, I think you know when you've reached "enough" - and when you've crossed over into "too many". Apart from the one I regretted (a BW CP Nanuri 07 head), the ones I parted with were all dolls I'd never been quite as fond of as the others, the ones I considered my core characters in their evolving story, so it wasn't so hard to let them go - and their replacements all have far more meaning to me and feel more "established".

But I've learned the hard way never to say never. ;)

To me, I love moderate family. I mean having kids I love but not too much of them because I will be unable to take care the best to all. :)

I thought I would just have a couple and then I could spoil them and lavish them with tons of clothes. However, it did not work out that way. I keep finding more and more that have to live with me.

I guess for me I forget really how many I have and how many I have coming. As long as I can give good attention to each of them.

My plan is (still) 3 + maybe 1 or 2 floating heads; all characters have been already decided. :nod
Surely, I do like to look at others and I do enjoy them. I even allow myself thinking of buying them for some time, but thatfs only a fantasy and at the end I do not. :shifty
Exactly, how it was said - I worry I wouldnft care of them any more if I had too many. And limited space would be an issue, too.

I have floating heads and hate it. Absolutly hate it. I need to get bodies for them. They cry out for bodies. :( I also hate that swine flu that caused Volks to cancel our NYC dolls this year. :( No bodies until next year. :(

I'm happy with the few dolls I have now but I'd love to have a bigger collection. I'm in love with way too many sculpts and I've got an ever growing wish list. Hee.

I originally wanted just two dolls for my two favourite (and oldest) original characters... but that idea got ditched very quickly :D there are just too many lovely sculpts that I want to own! I currently have three (or 2.5, since one's currently a head), and 4-6 is a comfortable number, so we'll see whether I can limit myself to a handful of sculpts...

Big collections aren't good for me.

I have to many dolls right now,
and just miss the bond you can have with just one.

So i'm selling all but one.
And buying a Blue Fairy May.
So i will end up with one SD thats seriously my dream doll...
and one msd that is my doll to drag around everywhere and spoil XB

I seem to be content with just a few. I figured that maybe SD and larger are too big, and I would have a large family of tinies, but that I would still consider to be a small amount. ^ ^

I actually thought I would be happy with just my mini........but then I found his bf, and now another is on his way.
And I still lust after an SD.......
I have no idea how many I'm going to stop at now

I think in many cases in collecting, you look for just the "right" one. It seems that my "right" one was my first even though I have taken in several others. Currently, I am beginning to think of rehoming a few of the resins to thin out the collection and worry less about taking care of a larger clan.

Well...it's not that I want a super HUGE collection of BJDs...it's more of the fact that...You can't have just 1...In fact...I am getting my 6th BJD around February. XD And I plan on getting another sometime next year. X3 My parents wanted to kill me for getting the first 1 ^_^;

My original plan was to get one, and she would be one and only. It's barely been a year since I started collecting and I now own seven, with an eighth on layaway and I am planning on three more in the short term ^^; I guess despite my best intentions I will end up with a slightly larger bjd family

I was supposed to only have Moswen and Kijika. There was a mix-up with the free head I got and by the time that was all straightened out, the free head was Jaiseki instead of Kijika and I was looking for the perfect sculpt for Kijika. During that search, I saw Jolen and knew I had to have him, too. And since I had Jaiseki, I had to find him his lover. And when I made plans to get Jolen, I needed to get him his lover, too.

Things basically snowballed on me *sigh*.

To further add to the Resin Army, the wrong skin-toned head that I originally got had had put up for sale has now spoken and told me who he is. So, should I keep the head (and get a body), I'll also have to get him his lover (and I even know what sculpt he is *head desk*).

On top of all that, I want to get Ryzel and Quinlin when I have the money and getting Haniel was a spur of the moment thing and....

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the resin Army will continue to grow despite my best efforts to stop. Thank god I don't have the finances to afford more or I'd be buried in resin.

I'd say I prefer a small group. I don't want more than I can carry to say a meet up or out for pictures. I have this thing about being able to pack up and go at a moments notice so I don't like struggling to get going. My three girls and boy fit just fine in the carrier I have for them and that's all I need. Though I may try puki's once again since I'm more involved in the hobby now.

I had a set number of dolls in mind, and set characters. And then I got my first bjd, Kit. He was not anything I had in mind. I just fell in love with him. I have gone for a long time thinking perhaps I would be a one-bjd person. But I have been watching a friend as she is building her collection. She has several heads and is getting more and ordering a new full doll.

A few days ago, it occurred to me that I also wanted a second doll. Really bad. I think I've just entered the multiple doll zone. I'm doomed! LOL

I'm scared of having too many. I'm not sure why exactly, I think it's the idea of letting myself spend so much on a hobby and the amount they'd distract me from things I need to do. Or just not having the time to work on all of them. It's frustrating enough at the moment having just one and not often having the time for photoshoots!

Although I have about 7 dolls on my fantasy wishlist, I think 3 will be enough. I always knew I wanted a boy and a girl. I waited years to find 'the one' who turned out to be a Zaoll Muse. She's still a work in progress but then I found my next doll and I'm waiting for him to arrive now. I would have probably stopped there but I love my Zaoll so much I've accepted that I'm going to get a Zaoll Luv as a sister for her.

Perhaps in the future I'll have some money to blow and if I decide that 2-3 dolls aren't enough of a creative outlet for me, I'll get another off my wishlist but right now, I doubt it. I just don't have that "gotta catch 'em all" collector's mentality.

Well I started out saying I only wanted 1 (and that was the only way my hubby would spend the money :|) but then it ended up being 2 and now i'm saving for 4 more :oops there are 2 more after that I want in the future but 1 is a Pukiefee, soo not a big deal. So if everything works out right i'll have 4 SD's 2 MSD's 1 Pukiefee and 1 Mecha Angel, I think that will be enough for me.

When I first responded in this thread I had 2 dolls, which were my only two dolls for over 2 years, now I have 7(8 if you include my unfinished Puki)and I've been into the hobby for more than 4 years now. Compared to most people I know, I'm pretty slow at acquiring dolls, yet I do know now I'd like a big collection. I liked having 2 dolls but I like having 7 dolls even more xD They are all spoiled, I never let a new doll come before spoiling my others, I'd rather get them new wigs and shoes and more clothes than save to get a new doll quickly. I'm not really in a hurry ^^;; I like having more dolls to explore lots of ideas with, and every doll is special in some other way and I adore them equally for their own merits :)

I don't sell dolls very quickly, only when I'm not inspired by them or if they didn't work for what I had in mind. I've sold 3 dolls in total, I regret one but that's how it goes. My original two boys are still here, still being spoiled and played with <3 Though I think the only way I will get a large collection is..slowly. If there are too many dolls within a short time period, I wouldn't like it. It would feel overwhelming. Usually, there's more than half a year between them, I don't plan it that way but it just happens.

I don't think I could honestly say that I'd be happy with a few - I currently have four, two on the way, and I want at least one more. I can see my doll family eventually coming in at ten or fifteen. But I don't think I'd want much more than that; I only have so much space, and I think I'd start to feel uncomfortable if I looked at my crew and saw that I'd spent as much money as a deposit on a house on them...

I have quite a few (somewhere around the 20 mark I believe) and while not all of them have "personalities" yet, I enjoy having them around to look at, change clothes, take to meets etc. And there are soooooooooo many that I still want! No way I could be happy with just a few.

I have kind of a lot. I'm a bargain hunter with collector AND packrat genes and can't resist it if I see one on my wishlist for a great price, so I have way more than the three I thought I'd have. And I'm happy with the group I have now. I've sold one who was a minor character and there's another who is on the "may go sometime" list, and I have 2 more full dolls and one head I still want, but for the most part I'm slowing down a lot on the acquisitions. I don't have as much time as I'd like to do photos and things, but they each get their turn and eventually I'll get their stories told.

If I was to win the lottery or something I'd have TONS of dolls, I know. But the ones I have now would still be the core group. The others would probably be "sit there and look pretty" dolls until they worked their way into the story or developed their own characters.

I had only planned on having a couple but I just really like many of them so when I find a good deal I add them. I still have a long list of others I would like to add and have finally forced myself to sell a few. Yes, I also have packrat genes running thru my veins; I can't ever have just 1 of anything!!! I don't do as much with them as I had originally planned but they bring me enjoyment each and everyday and that is all that matters in the long run. I am happy with all of them and just love wallowing in my resin menagerie!!

When I bought my first bjd (a Luts Moon) I thought that I might ultimately end up with *maybe* 5 or 6, max. Right now, I've got 10 with another one on order, and a long, long wish list (plus a box of heads waiting on bodies). I love how different they all look and I'm very happy to have a variety of types by different makers.

For about 5 years I only had 1. Then for my 30th birthday I was gifted with my second last year. Next year I'll be getting a big one(hoping Soom comes out with something great feb-mar next year!) in honour of my hubby and I being together 10 years! That's not counting the 3 minis I have on my wishlist and the puki I want. I didn't think I'd want so many, but ah well, it'll be spread over years.

It all depends on one's definition of 'a lot'. :sweat I think at this point my collection is in the double digits that start with two, but I'm not sure I could pare down more than one or two of them. I like each of them for different reasons, and I totally agree that with unlimited funds I would have some dolls that are just for display (fullset Euclase, I'm looking at you!). I like both the characterization and the art parts of dolls, and sometimes I'm just as content to see them on their shelves and giggle madly that they are mine. Other times I really need to take them out and be social with the other doll people to enjoy them.

But I think I am happier with a larger versus smaller collection. It lets me have the dolls that (for me) aesthetically go together but still enjoy variety. (I'm afraid the OCD kicks in when there's too much variety, though; all of the culls have been ones that didn't 'go' with the rest of the group.)

I've only been in the hobby for 6 months but I have to say that I always knew I wanted at least a boy and a girl. I have a boy doll and now I have the head of my girl doll (not the body yet though). I may consider a MSD as my last which would bring my limit to 3 dolls. I can't handle more than that. By the time I get everything for them, I would have spent a couple of hundred if not a thousand on them and I cringe everytime I think of that.

Currently, I don't own one. I am shopping around for my first and I have been looking and reading for months. I think though that I may end up with three. I have seen the SD size in person now and while they are stunning and gorgeous, I have to say I'm more of a MSD kind of girl. So, I'd like to have one girl and one boy MSD & then a "baby." Kind of like a family within a family. :)

If I were to collect based on finding ones that looked like my favorite anime/manga characters and/or Japanese rock artists... I'd end up bankrupt. I don't really want to give them a story, but rather want to view my dolls as adoptions and additions to my family. Naturally all my dolls have a personality to me, but I want to refrain from developing stories. I am a writer as a hobby and that would be absolutely lethal to my bank account.

I'm already tempted enough by Lucifer [dark version] and Gabriel from Angell Studio because they are literally the vivid doll incarnation of the protagonists of one of my stories. When I saw them, I died...

Though I am thinking that it might be years until I make the plunge for a boy doll. Right now I'm torn between the MSD and the "baby"... I want to buy.

I have a huge collection and I think it's great to be lucky enough to own so many awesome dolls! The more the merrier, I say! I don't believe in laying guilt on myself because I have the wherewithall to have a nice collection of dolls.

I have always collected dolls. Im an adult, I have a great job which pays handsomely, and dolls are "my thing". I don't fret that Im not giving them all individual attention. They are dolls, not people, and they don't need me to fuss and love them constantly. (Even real people don't need that.) I love and admire them, and when I have the time, I take them down and play with them. But, misgivings about having so many darling dolls...not gonna happen!

Im also lucky that I have a husband who loves to buy me dolls for birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas. (Dang! Life is good! :dance )

I think that, yeah, if I won the lottery (if I *played* the lottery XD) I would have far more than I do. But I need to budget carefully to stay in this hobby, and I know I get miffed when a doll is sitting around and seems a long way off from the "look" I wanted for them. I like to finish dolls to a certain degree before I embark on another. Which means... very infrequent resin purchases XD I'm happy with my three ^_^

I guess I cannot say I am happy with "just a few" anymore :sweat My collection is not one of the biggest here, but I own more dolls now that I thought I ever would. There are still some dolls on the way, and new characters which jump to life when I see another "pretty doll picture". And then there are these Remaining Story MDs by SOOM which are quite addictive... So, I definitely like a large collection :) And they need proper clothes, accessories, furniture... no nekkid dollies here.

Still, there is one thing I am thankful for. I promised myself not to buy any SD-sized or bigger dolls until I have a bigger house or flat. This resolution saved me from ruin till now :lol
